“Join the Whobilation, again!” Universal Pictures has unveiled a new trailer for the 25th Anniversary re-release of the beloved Christmas classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas – the live-action version with Jim Carrey from the year 2000. Many kids grew up watching and loving this one. Older generations grew up with the animated classic 1966 version from Chuck Jones. Both based on the beloved book created by Dr. Seuss – How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The movie, directed by Ron Howard, is a live-action version of the story about a grumpy green creature known as “The Grinch”, who lives above a town called Whoville – played under perfectly wicked make-up by the one-and-only Jim Carrey. (Rick Baker & Gail Rowell-Ryan won the Best Make-Up Oscar for this.) He plans to ruin Christmas for all of the citizens of the town, because he hates Christmas. His plan is foiled when he meets the young Cindy Lou Who (played by actress Taylor Momsen in her first film role) who teaches him the true meaning of Christmas. The cast includes Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Baranski, Bill Irwin, and Molly Shannon. So many movies have been re-released this year and they’re continuing the trend by bringing this out again in theaters in December. Who’s going?

It’s not easy being green, especially when you’re the cranky, cantankerous Grinch. Brooding alone in the cave he calls home with only his dog Max, the reclusive Grinch wiles away his days ruminating on the horrible hatred he feels for the Whos down in the neighboring burg of Whoville. With their annual holiday festivities approaching, the Grinch hatches a vengeful plot to ruin the fun and purloin all the trappings that make Christmas so special. But he meets a surprising match in brave little Cindy Lou Who (played by Taylor Momsen), a tiny girl whose kindness and generosity of spirit just might help The Grinch begin to appreciate the beauty of the season. How the Grinch Stole Christmas is directed by the beloved American actor / filmmaker Ron Howard, directing his 14 feature film at the time just after EDtv (1999) and before A Beautiful Mind (2001) after this. The screenplay is written by Jeffrey Price & Peter S. Seaman. Based on the Dr. Seuss book of the same name first published in 1957. The movie was originally released in theaters in November 2000. Universal will re-release Ron Howard’s Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas film in theaters again starting December 12th, 2025 this winter. Who’s already a fan of this holiday classic?

“25 years later – the wound is still alive.” Mubi has revealed a brand new 25th anniversary re-release trailer for the iconic, indie classic Amores Perros, the first feature by Mexican director Alejandro G. Iñárritu. This initially premiered at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival in the Directors Fortnight sidebar, launching the career of Iñárritu who would go on to win Oscars and make a handful of all-timer movies. An amateur dog fighter, a supermodel, & worn out assassin, all separately struggling to find love, find their lives transformed by a devastating car wreck in Mexico City. The film stars Emilio Echevarría, Gael García Bernal, Goya Toledo, Álvaro Guerrero, Vanessa Bauche, Jorge Salinas, Adriana Barraza, Humberto Busto. The film’s official title is a pun in Spanish; the word “perros”, which literally means “dogs”, can also be used to refer to misery, so that it roughly means “bad loves” with canine connotations. The film was released under its Spanish title in the English-speaking world, although it was sometimes translated as Love’s a Bitch in marketing. The soundtrack includes songs by Latin American rock bands including Café Tacuba, Control Machete, and Illya Kuryaki & the Valderramas. This new 4K version was restored from the 35 mm original camera negative, which was scanned in 16-bit 4K resolution. The color & final grading was supervised and approved by director Alejandro G. Iñárritu, as well as director of photography Rodrigo Prieto. View it below.

Amores Perros Trailer 25th Anniversary

A fatal car crash in Mexico City sets off a chain of events in the lives of 3 people: a supermodel, a young man wanting to run off with his sister-in-law, and a homeless man. They are catapulted into unforeseen situations instigated by the seemingly inconsequential destiny of a dog. As a groundbreaking moment for early 2000s Mexican cinema and winner of the Grand Prize at the 2000 Festival de Cannes Critics Week, Amores Perros retains its full and undiminished power. Let us meet with Alejandro G. Iñárritu to celebrate the anniversary of his first film. Amores Perros is directed by acclaimed Mexican filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu (aka Alejandro González Iñárritu), his very first feature film at the time before going on to make 21 Grams (2003). The screenplay is written by Guillermo Arriaga Jordán. Also produced by Iñárritu. This initially premiered at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival, and also played at NYFF that year, then didn’t open in theaters until the next year – starting in March 2001. The film recently premiered again as a restoration at this year’s Cannes. Mubi will re-release Iñárritu’s Amores Perros in select theaters starting in early October – and will be streaming on Mubi starting October 24th, 2025 coming soon this fall. Any fans of this film?
