The Boys & Girls Clubs of America are still benefiting from Nate Bargatze’s controversial Emmys bit

The Boys & Girls Clubs of America may end up being the biggest winner of Sunday night’s Emmy Awards. The afterschool youth programming nonprofit is now seeing a donation surge after a controversial fundraising bit at the center of television’s biggest night.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of America are still benefiting from Nate Bargatze’s controversial Emmys bit

Emmys host Nate Bargatze pledged $100,000 to the group at the top of the telecast — with a twist. The comedian then deducted $1,000 for every second that an acceptance speech exceeded the allotted time and added the same amount for every second under the limit. Boys & Girls Clubs children stood with the trophy holder for each announcement before retreating into the wings.

The charitable gag failed to restrain many winners. “Hacks” star Hannah Einbinder vowed “I’ll pay the difference” while accepting the award for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series. “We over the Boys & Girls,” comedian Seth Rogen said as the ticker plunged deeper into the negatives. With the show nearly over, the sum had fallen below zero to negative $60,000.

The Boys & Girls Clubs “were waiting to see the outcome in real time, like everyone else,” Lisa Anastasi, the organization’s chief development and external relations officer, said Monday in an email. They ultimately received what Anastasi called a “generous surprise”: $250,000 from Bargatze and $100,000 from broadcaster CBS.

“The number, I’ll be honest with you, was embarrassing,” Bargatze said before announcing the final amount.

And the nationwide nonprofit is still reaping the benefits. Donation totals have more than doubled compared to this time last week and its search interest is at a record high, according to Anastasi.

“The $350,000 donation will be incredibly impactful to our programs and in the lives of kids and teens who attend our Clubs,” Anastasi said. “But this moment was about more than the donation for us — it was also special because it placed our mission and our Club Kids on a national stage.”

Some viewers applauded the altruistically minded mockery of long-winded Hollywood elites. Not all in the worlds of entertainment and philanthropy were equally enthused, though.

A Variety columnist said the running joke turned artists’ moments of celebration into ones “they’ll remember for having been policed in the most sanctimonious and irritating manner possible.”

Generosity is not about gimmicks, according to fundraising strategist T. Clay Buck. In a LinkedIn post, he said “communities are not props” and “neighbors’ needs are not entertainment.”

“$100,000 is not a joke — it’s rent, it’s meals, it’s staff salaries, it’s futures,” Buck said. “And to cheapen that gift by making it conditional, transactional, or theatrical diminishes the very heart of giving.”

Ed Sheeran has declared he is not moving permanently to the United States

The singer, 34, clarifying his family will only relocate temporarily to America while he tours.

Ed arrived in New York on Wednesday (10.09.25), and was spotted visiting the Paramount and CBS offices dressed casually in a black hoodie, joggers and colourful trainers.

His trip followed a wave of speculation about his plans after comments on a podcast suggested he was preparing to settle in America for good.

But addressing the reports in a new Instagram post, Ed said: “Way easier to clear up stuff on here so here’s me setting record straight, coz there’s deffo a narrative press are trying to push that people wanna move out of UK for some reason.

“I’m not moving, I’m going on tour with my family and relocating to the continent I’m touring on, don’t wanna commute from London to San Diego obvz.

“Also this isn’t a tax thing, it’s USA not UAE. Il always pay tax in UK coz that’s where I live. Play out Friday go listen to it x.”

Ed, who owns an estimated £70 million property portfolio, recently bought a £9 million home in New York but spends most of his time at Sheeranville, his Suffolk estate, with his wife Cherry Seaborn and their daughters Lyra and Jupiter.

Speaking on the 2 Johnnies podcast earlier this year, Ed had said: “I’m just about to move to America. I feel like I might be the only person moving to America.

“I’m going on tour there for a while and I have a family so I can’t dip in and out. We’re going and settling there.”

The singer also previously spoke of ambitions to transition into country music.

He said: “When you transition to country, you can’t transition back. Nashville is my favourite city in the States and it’s always been my end goal to move to Nashville and transition to country.”

Ed, who grew up in Suffolk, has described his cultural identity as Irish because of his father John’s Belfast roots.

Speaking on The Louis Theroux Podcast, he said: “I class my culture as Irish. I think that’s what I grew up with.

“My dad’s family is… he’s got seven brothers and sisters. We’d spend all of our holidays in Ireland.

“My first musical experiences were in Ireland, I grew up with trad music in the house.

“So I identify culturally as Irish, but I was obviously born and raised in Britain.”

bitchy | Cardi B: ‘I tried to warn ya. All I’m going to say is America is in a very bad place.’

Cardi B’s new album, Am I the Drama?, comes out on September 19th. She covers the latest issue of Billboard to talk about music, her first headlining tour (next year) and the state of American politics. In early 2024, Cardi said repeatedly that she wouldn’t get involved in the presidential election cycle and she wasn’t particularly inspired. Then Kamala Harris became the nominee, and Cardi immediately changed her mind and went out campaigning for Kamala. I appreciated that – even when I thought Cardi was being short-sighted about Joe Biden, I liked that she quickly saw the stakes and gave her full-throated support to VP Harris. Anyway, some highlights from Billboard:

Her first headlining tour is scheduled for next year: “A lot of people say I got comfortable because I make money, but the most money I make is when I go and do shows,” says Cardi, who tweeted in 2022 that she’d netted $1 million for a 35-minute show at a private event during Miami’s Art Basel. “I could rush and put out music like it’s nothing and then pick up millions of dollars per show, but it’s not about that. I want the music to be great. I want it to be amazing.”

The obsession with women MCs feuding: “No lie, these b–ches be catty. You can’t prevent a b–ch from being shady. Sometimes b–ches want to see what you’re about. They want to test you and they want to test your gangsta. A lot of the b–ches will come in this game and feel like they can challenge you. Some b–ches like to die young. In this game, you need to really know who you’re challenging.

Whether she would do the Super Bowl Halftime show: “Of course. I got asked to do the Super Bowl and I denied it. I feel like soon, if I get to do it, I’m going to have more hits. I’m going to be more experienced and I’m going to eat that up.”

How motherhood has changed her: “It turned me into a real woman. I was like, “What makes a woman? Her body? Her cooking?” It’s her maturity and her thinking. If I didn’t have kids, I wouldn’t sacrifice so much. This summer, I haven’t even put my feet in a pool. I do everything for my kids. I’m the only provider and you know what? Ain’t no complaining about it. I love them so much and they ground me. Sometimes I be so exhausted and it’s not even about work, it’s just life. If you think when you get rich you’re going to stop working, you’re never going to stop working. My mom used to be a freakin’ cashier and she used to work every single day. To this day, I still talk about how hard my mom worked. I had a very rough childhood, but my mom always made sure we ain’t go to no shelter. I want my kids to be like, “My mom made sure I had everything that I wanted.”

Whether she tries to mentor the younger women in the industry: “Have your ever read [Sister Souljah’s novel] The Coldest Winter Ever? (Laughs.) At the end of the book, the main character, Winter, was in jail. She cut a b–ch — or some s–t like that — then they let her out to go to her mom’s funeral. She saw her sister going in her same footsteps and wanted to give her advice. Before she gave her advice she was like, “You know what? F–k it. Let her go through what I went through. Let her learn on her own.” Sometimes you got to let b–ches learn on their own. I have to because there were so many b–ches that I’ve sat down and given advice from the heart. Like, if I see people bullying you because of whatever the f–k, I’m going to go in your DMs and give you advice. But sometimes I got to really hold myself [back] and say, “No, b–ch. Don’t do it,” because these b–ches turned their backs on me, f–ked my man, talked about me and somebody told me about it.

She hopes her kids are politically active: “You always have to be aware of what’s happening to the world and what’s happened before, because things really do repeat themselves. Maybe not something drastic like a world war, slavery or the Holocaust, but there’s always shady s–t going on. I just want them to always be aware of what’s going on and what could happen. But there’s something about politics that gets me in a rabbit hole. I remember wanting to say something so bad this week, but I was like, “I can’t.”

Why she bites her tongue about politics: “I have to bite my tongue. I really, really had to bite my tongue, but you know the reason why I’ve been so silent about politics? It’s because when I used to complain the past four years, I know for a fact that people watch my stuff. I know it. I know the White House watches my stuff. I have a big platform. I know they listen to what I say. I might not say it the prettiest way, but I know they listen to what I’m saying. There’s a president that knows I’ve never supported him and it’s like if I say something, he’s not going to care. I tried to give people warnings and it is what it is. What I can do? What I can say?”

America is in a bad place: “People made fun of my accent. People made fun of my speech [at a Kamala Harris rally days before the 2024 presidential election]. I was, “Aight. Y’all gonna see what’s funny.” S–t ain’t funny right now, isn’t it? It’s really tough out here. S–t is really rough out here for everybody. I tried to warn ya. All I’m going to say is America is in a very bad place. No matter who’s in charge, it’s going to stay like that because we’re paying for bad karma. Why [are we] paying for bad karma? Because we have been involved in something morally illegal, morally that God hates, morally that is disgusting. I’m not going to speak about it. Y’all should know why. All I’m going to say is we’re going to be paying for a very long time because there’s no bigger leader than God. We’ve been doing immoral stuff. We’ve been supporting and endorsing immoral, evil things. Not one person is going to pay for it; the whole country is going to pay for it.

[From Billboard]

I’m not sure if she means the Biden White House was watching her or whether she’s referencing the MAGA cult, honestly – there was some chatter among Democrats when Cardi was, like, hanging out with Bernie Sanders. But the MAGAts hate her and they’re constantly mocking her and criticizing her, so… I just don’t know. I actually agree that we’re witnessing karma unfold on the whole country. As for what she says about mentorship… I know for a fact that she has mentored and advised several younger artists, but there are also rumors that at least one of the younger girls slept with Offset. So I can see how she feels more cautious about who gets advice and who doesn’t.

HYBE Latin America Launches Regional Mexican Label S1ENTO Records

by jummy84 September 8, 2025
written by jummy84

HYBE Latin America announced on Monday (Sept. 8) the launch of S1ENTO Records, its new record label focused on emerging regional Mexican artists.

The company’s first signees include Pase A La Fama‘s top three groups: Grupo Destino, Musza and Low Clika. The reality show, developed by HYBE Latin America and Telemundo, set out to find the next música mexicana band and officially crowned Musza as the winning band in June.

The three groups were selected for their “exceptional talent” and will enter a “rigorous” training and development process, “an approach unique to HYBE as a global company, aimed at enhancing their artistry, professionalizing their projects, and preparing them for international audiences,” according to a press release.

Related

“With S1ENTO Records, we want to open a path for emerging artists to grow with professionalism, discipline, and creative freedom,” Isaac Lee, chairman & CEO of HYBE Americas, said in a statement. “Following the vision of Bang Si-Hyuk, who has always believed in empowering talent from its roots and projecting it globally, our mission is to transform local talent into sustainable projects with an impact that transcends borders.”

Throughout the show, the three bands crafted their respective sounds, combining traditional regional Mexican music, like norteño, banda and cumbia, with corridos tumbados for a modern twist. While the band members inially rotated to perform in different groups, ultimately, the three that made it to the finale stuck as an ensemble for the last few weeks of the competition, with guidance from judges Ana Bárbara, Adriel Favela and Horacio Palencia.

“While the show began as an entertainment format, it also became a platform for emerging artists and an incubator for some of the most outstanding talent in Mexico and the United States,” added Myrna Pérez, GM of S1ENTO Records and creator/executive producer of Pase a la Fama. “This label, which will eventually expand to other artists, is today the home of that community: musicians who aspire to go beyond the music and build a holistic 360° narrative. Everything we create, from songs to stories and visuals, is designed to generate an experience that moves you.”

The events will be simultaneously held March 13-15, 2026, at Parque O’Higgins in Santiago and Hippodromo de San Isidro in Buenos Aires, with the Brazilian edition set for March 20-22 at Autódromo de Interlagos in São Paulo. Per organizer C3 Presents, Carpenter, Tyler, Roan and Doechii will all be playing in South America for the first time in their careers.

The undercards for all three events are loaded with other favorites, including Turnstile, Lewis Capaldi, Interpol, Kygo, Peggy Gou, Tom Morello, Cypress Hill, Addison Rae, Katseye, Marina, Djo, Men I Trust, Lola Young, 2hollis and Shaquille O’Neal (as his DJ Diesel alter-ego).

For Carpenter, the bookings extend her roadwork in support of her new Island album, Man’s Best Friend, which will be released tomorrow (Aug. 29). She had a breakout moment at the Chicago edition of Lollapalooza in 2023 and returned there earlier this month as a headliner, bringing out Earth, Wind & Fire for a guest appearance on their classic “September.”

IMEX America sustainability progress revealed in new report

by jummy84 August 20, 2025
written by jummy84

A new report from IMEX shares practical sustainability insights which planners can use to deliver a positive impact with their own events. As IMEX America 2025 approaches, the new report, developed with sustainability consultants MeetGreen®, highlights the sustainability successes, experiments, and lessons learned from last year’s show.

The IMEX America 2024 Sustainability Report takes a deep dive into the event’s environmental initiatives, from pre-show planning through to on-site execution. It showcases key achievements and new initiatives while also identifying areas ripe for enhancement.

Highlights

  • New initiatives included introducing five electric buses to the event transport fleet and replacing single-use plastic badge holders with 100% paper versions
  • Menus at IMEX America catering outlets were all 100% beef-free, helping to reduce catering carbon emissions by 39% compared to the 2023 show
  • For the sixth consecutive year, IMEX America successfully diverted more than 90% of its waste stream (by weight) from landfill earning its designation as a zero-waste event.

A rallying cry to the industry

IMEX CEO, Carina Bauer, explains how event professionals can benefit from the report: “Having the right knowledge to hand is key to making meaningful progress, and this report details the practical information planners can use to make changes to their own events and enhance conversations with colleagues and clients.

“Our report’s an open account of both what went well and also what we can do better. We’ve highlighted the areas to improve at our coming show, specifically around material use and charity donations. We’re always open to experimenting with new ideas, building on what’s gone well and identifying areas to improve.

“My rallying cry for event professionals is this: sustainability progress doesn’t have to be about big bold moves; taking small, incremental steps is just as important. Producing sustainable events is a gradual process and it’s vital we all learn and iterate as we go.”

Sustainability insight for all at IMEX America

Planners can discover the latest sustainability know-how through hands-on activations and a dedicated learning track, Impact, at this year’s IMEX America which takes place October 7-9.
