Priyadarshan CONFIRMS Mohanlal’s Cameo In Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan’s Haiwaan- Report

Director Priyadarshan, known for his hit films across multiple languages, is currently working on his next big Hindi project titled Haiwaan. The movie stars Bollywood heavyweights Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles. Priyadarshan confirmed that Malayalam superstar Mohanlal will also appear in the film—though only in a cameo.

Priyadarshan Talks About Mohanlal’s Cameo In Haiwaan

When asked about pairing Mohanlal and Akshay in a full-fledged film, Priyadarshan explained that he doesn’t start with actors in mind. Speaking to Pinkvilla, he said, “For me, it always begins with the story,” he said. “Mohanlal is part of Haiwaan, but I don’t want to reveal more about his role yet.”

About Haiwaan

Haiwaan is a Hindi thriller directed by Priyadarshan, bringing Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan together on screen. It is said to be adapted from Mohanlal’s 2016 Malayalam hit Oppam. The film is produced by Thespian Films and KVN Productions and is scheduled to release in theatres in 2026. The cast also features Samuthirakani, Saiyami Kher, Shreya Pilgaonkar, veteran actor Asrani, and Icelandic actor Einar Haraldsson.

Akshay Kumar will be seen in Haiwaan after the release of Jolly LLB 3, while Saif Ali Khan was last seen in the thriller Jewel Thief. Mohanlal, who recently starred in the Onam release Hridayapoorvam, joins Haiwaan in a cameo that’s already creating excitement among fans.

Priyadarshan also revealed that Akshay will star in another upcoming project of his—a horror-comedy titled Bhooth Bangla. With its gripping storyline and powerful cast, Haiwaan is shaping up to be one of 2026’s most awaited releases.

Akshay Kumar dismissed the money-minded tag put on him and said that money is an important factor in life and one needs to be practical.

Actor and producer Akshay Kumar is one of the highest-tax-paying celebrities in India. The actor, who has been busy promoting his latest film, Jolly LLB 3, recently appeared on Aap ki Adalat, where he commented on the accusation that he is money-minded.

Akshay Kumar talked about the importance of earning money.

What Akshay said

During the conversation, Akshay said, “Agar paisa kamaya hai toh loot ke nahi kanaya. Maine kaam karke kamaya hai. 8 saal se I have been the highest taxpayer (I have earned money but not by stealing from someone. For the last 8 years I have been the highest tax-payer) Toh, it cannot be that I am money-minded or anything. Money is an important aspect in life, you have be practical.”

‘Paisa kamata hu, tax deta hu’

He added, “Paisa kamata hu, tax deta hu, aur un paiso se kaafi seva karta hoo. Ye mera dharam he. Baki chahe kuch bhi kahe main kuch biswas nahi karta… agar ap ko pheete katne se paisa milta hai toh kya problem hain? Woh paisa dene ko taiyaar he? Jab tak aap kisi se chori nahi kar rahe, jab tak aap kisi ko loot nahi rahe ho, jab tak ap mehnat kar rahe hain tab tak koi problem nahi he (I earn money, I pay the tax, and I serve. That is my religion. Rest, many will say a lot of things I do not care. If someone wants to pay you for attending an event, then why not take it? What is the problem with that? Unless you are stealing from someone and earning it by sheer hard work it is completely okay). I don’t care if they have to say money-minded…”

Akshay also added that many years ago, he had to invest his own money to finish a film due to the producer’s financial issues.

Akshay’s Jolly LLB 3 released in theatres last Friday. The film also stars Arshad Warsi and Saurabh Shukla in pivotal roles. It has crossed ₹45 crore at the box office so far.

In the teaser, Sunil Grover impersonates Akshay Kumar in a hilarious spoof of the anti-smoking PSA that used to play in Indian theatres before every movie. But what took fans by complete surprise was the appearance of the original Nandu actor, Ajay Singh Pal, making it a full-circle moment.

For those who remember, the original PSA featured Akshay Kumar encountering a man named Nandu outside a hospital, smoking a cigarette. Akshay delivers a powerful line telling Nandu to use that cigarette money to buy sanitary pads for his wife, turning the light-hearted setup into a strong public health message. The ad ran for over six years in Indian theatres until it was discontinued by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in October 2024.

In the recreated skit, Sunil rides up on a bicycle, mirroring Akshay’s original entry, and spots Nandu waiting outside a shopping area. This time, Nandu’s wife is inside a Duty-Free store, shopping, which is the new “aurton wali bimari” (women’s illness).

Nandu tells Sunil he’s in a hurry because he needs to pee. Sunil, staying in character as Akshay, hits back with the hilarious punchline: “Herogiri su su karne mein nahi hai, balki biwi ke bags uthane mein hai” (Heroism isn’t in going for a pee, but in carrying your wife’s shopping bags).

Nandu doesn’t hold back either, responding with a frustrated, sarcastic outburst: “Kya paaj, kabhi kehte ho phu phu mat karo, ab keh rahe ho su su mat karo, arey pathri ho jaegi mujhe, aap ke chakkar mein jeeb aur jal gayi meri” (What’s this, brother? First, you said don’t puff [smoke], now you’re saying don’t pee. I’ll get kidney stones! Because of you, even my tongue and soul are burnt!)

In August, Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aditi Rao Hydari, Jaideep Ahlawat and several others attended the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), with photos and videos from the event quickly surfacing online. Comedian Sapan Verma hosted the awards night and has now shared a video of his opening monologue, where he roasted stars including Aamir, Malaika and Abhishek.

The video began with Sapan poking fun at Aamir Khan’s relentless promotion of Sitaare Zameen Par. He said, “Aamir Khan, as we all know, was so good this year in all the 450 interviews he did to promote Sitaare Zameen Par. Sir, you did so much promotion at one point, I was worried. My doorbell rang, I thought you had personally come to tell me to watch the film.”

He further joked about Aamir rejecting a ₹100 crore OTT deal and added, “Aamir sir made history, an iconic move. He has released this film directly on YouTube. I have heard that you declined an offer of more than ₹100 crore from an OTT platform for this move. ₹100 crore. You know what that means, right? Akshay Kumar’s monthly salary.”

Aamir indeed gave multiple interviews to promote Sitaare Zameen Par. Later, he announced that the film would not be released on any OTT platform. Reports suggested that he had turned down an offer of ₹120 crore from Amazon Prime Video for its digital rights. Eventually, Aamir released the film on YouTube, charging viewers ₹100.

Speaking about his decision, Aamir said, “This was the reason why I did not give away the rights of my film Sitaare Zameen Par, as this plan was in motion. Our plan is to release every film under the Aamir Khan Production banner on YouTube, after they complete their theatrical run. Each movie will be available at a minimal cost of ₹100.”

About Sitaare Zameen Par

Directed by RS Prasanna, the sports comedy-drama is a spiritual successor to Khan’s 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par. It stars Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh in lead roles alongside 10 debutant actors, all of whom are specially abled. An official remake of the 2018 Spanish film Campeones, it follows a suspended basketball coach who must serve community service by helping a team of players with disabilities prepare for a tournament.

The film received positive reviews from both critics and audiences, emerging as a box-office success with earnings of ₹267.52 crore against a budget of ₹122 crore.

IFFM winners

At IFFM, Aamir Khan was honoured with the prestigious Excellence in Cinema Award. Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound won big, taking home both Best Film and Best Director. Abhishek Bachchan bagged Best Actor (Film) for I Want To Talk, while Jaideep Ahlawat won Best Actor (Series) for Paatal Lok Season 2.
