Farhan Akhtar admits Jee Le Zaraa delays were ‘stressful’, triggered his insecurities: Felt people will doubt my skills

Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar announced the film Jee Le Zaraa with Katrina Kaif, Alia Bhatt and Priyanka Chopra in the lead in 2021. However, the film has still not gone on the floors due to date issues. Now, in an interview with Samdish on his YouTube channel, Farhan spoke about how stressful the period became for him as the film kept getting delayed, eventually triggering his insecurities.

Farhan Akhtar on how Jee Le Zaraa’s delays impacted him.

Farhan Akhtar says Jee Le Zaraa delays were stressful for him

Farhan revealed that he rejected acting roles and other opportunities that came his way in order to focus on Jee Le Zaraa, but the shooting schedule kept getting pushed. He said, “So my film Toofan was released in 2021, and right after that, I was set to direct a film called Jee Le Zara. It just kept getting delayed, and for those two years, I kept saying no to all other opportunities that came my way. I did that because when you have to direct, you can only focus on that. If an acting role came, I told them, ‘No, I am soon going to be directing’.”

The actor shared how his insecurities began to take over as the production dates continued to shift. He said, “It was such a stressful period because I thought that I was wasting time, and before I knew it, two and a half years had gone by. There are some personal insecurities as well. I started feeling that maybe people will think that I wouldn’t be able to direct. It had been 12 years since I had directed a film, and maybe people would doubt my skills. When you sit with a therapist and you tell these things, you start realising where all these things are coming from. Because I didn’t want to say, ‘Let me move on from this film.’”

About Jee Le Zaraa

Jee Le Zaraa is a road-trip film, a light-hearted story about female friendships, self-discovery and making independent choices. The film created major buzz when first announced. However, reports soon surfaced that aligning the schedules of the three actors had become a challenge. The film would have marked Farhan’s return to direction after his 2011 film Don 2.

In September this year, Farhan hinted that Alia, Katrina and Priyanka may no longer be part of the cast. Speaking on the YouTube channel Our Stupid Reactions, he said, “I have finished all location scouts, recorded music for the film. So it’s just a matter of time before we come back and do it again. I can’t comment on the cast any more, like what that will be and when that will land. But will the film happen? Ya, it will.”

Farhan Akhtar’s recent work

Farhan is currently seen in the film 120 Bahadur. The historical war drama stars Farhan as Major Shaitan Singh alongside Raashii Khanna, Vivan Bhatena and Ankit Siwach in key roles. The film recounts the Battle of Rezang La — one of the major battles of the Sino-Indian War — fought on 18 November 1962, when 120 soldiers of the Charlie Company, 13 Kumaon Regiment, made up entirely of Ahirs, defended their post against a 3,000-strong Chinese army contingent, inflicting over 1,300 casualties.

The actor is set to begin work on Don 3 in 2026. The film will star Ranveer Singh in the lead role, while the female lead is yet to be confirmed.

Naseeruddin Shah Concedes His ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ Criticism Was ‘Exaggerated’ After Strong Response From Farhan Akhtar

by jummy84 November 12, 2025
written by jummy84

Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has reevaluated his harsh public critique of Farhan Akhtar’s performance in the 2013 biopic Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, suggesting that his original remarks may have been overstated. The reversal comes after Akhtar described Shah’s comments as “distasteful” during a recent interview. Now Shah acknowledges the backlash and admits the framing of his critique was amplified beyond his intent.

The original spark for the dispute dates back over a decade. When Bhaag Milkha Bhaag was released, Shah openly dismissed the film and questioned Akhtar’s portrayal of Indian sprinter Milkha Singh. His remarks included statements like “building up muscles and growing your hair is not exactly working hard on your acting” and “at least he should have tried to look like Milkha.”

Fast forward to November 2025, and Akhtar responded strongly. He emphasised that although he welcomes critique, the way it was delivered felt personal and inappropriate in a public forum, given their shared history. “I have known him for so many years… he has known me since I was a child,” Akhtar remarked, calling the approach “distasteful” and noting that a phone call would have sufficed instead.

Shah’s latest comments acknowledge this tension. During a conversation with the media, he said, “He is right but I think my statement has been exaggerated a bit.” When pressed about which part, Shah responded coyly: “I don’t think you need to be a genius to figure that out! Read both statements.”

This exchange highlights deeper undercurrents beyond the immediate disagreement. Shah belongs to a generation of actors known for cerebral commentary on cinema; his blunt critique of Akhtar’s muscle-bound transformation in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag challenged popular conceptions of performance over spectacle. The film itself was a commercial hit and remains widely celebrated, complicating the legacy of his comments.

Yet the incident also underscores how star relationships combine personal history, public scrutiny and professional critique. Credit must be given to Akhtar’s willingness to call out perceived disrespect publicly, while Shah’s later concession demonstrates a rare openness to reassessing past statements in light of evolving norms around public discourse.

From a broader view, the scenario speaks to the challenges actors face when they cross from private to public opinion. Shah’s pivot—from robust denunciation to expressed ambiguity—signals that media amplification can reshape intent. His statement acts as a form of redress, even as he preserves his right of opinion.

What does this mean for industry dynamics? For one, it implies that public critique in cinema now carries layers of personal context. The actor-director-star network is no longer immune to internal critique becoming external news cycles. Both sides of the exchange are aware of the theatre of commentary.

Secondly, it invites reflection on how audience memory preserves star interactions. Twenty years after Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, the public revisits the film not just for its narrative but for the cultural conversation around performance, authenticity and legacy. Shah’s remarks then become part of the film’s afterlife.

Lastly, the episode shows that speaking truth—however one defines truth—carries consequences in an ecosystem where history is searchable and reputations live online. Shah’s critique went into archives; Akhtar’s response turned it into a sub-plot. Shah’s concession is his attempt to adapt.

Going forward, the two actors seem poised to move on, professionally if not personally. Shah continues to work on new projects, while Akhtar’s trajectory spans acting, direction and production. The interaction may be less about reconciliation than a mutual acknowledgement of professional boundaries, critique style and public legacy.

In the end, the exchange is less about one film or one performance than how veteran and contemporary figures communicate in a digital age. The movie remains a milestone; the feud becomes a footnote. What remains may be the lesson: that in the glare of media and public memory, even a critical remark has a half-life. Shah’s admission of exaggeration demonstrates that even for a critic of his calibre, context, tone and timing matter.

For fans and observers of Indian cinema, the moment matters. It offers a rare glimpse into how star culture adapts—not just through films, but through attitudes toward critique, legacy and one’s own words. And in that sens,e it may last longer than the film itself.

Javed Akhtar says, ‘I’m happy he has opinions’ as he hits back at Lucky Ali for calling him ‘ugly, hardly original’

In October, singer Lucky Ali criticised veteran Bollywood writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar over an old video claiming that the veteran lyricist had made a remark about Hindu–Muslim dynamics. Now, in a conversation with India Today, Akhtar has hit back at the singer’s jibe.

Javed Akhtar says happy to know Lucky Ali has opinions.

Javed Akhtar reacts to Lucky Ali’s remarks against him

Javed Akhtar reacted to Lucky Ali calling him “ugly” and said, “Now, I must take Lucky Ali’s opinion with a pinch of salt. I should accept it. Although I don’t agree with it. But anyway, I’m happy to know that he has opinions. That’s wonderful.”

After making the remark, the singer also issued a sarcastic apology, mentioning that “monsters have feelings too”. Commenting on this, the lyricist said, “Let him decide what he meant and what he wants. If you are tolerant, it’s good. If you are intolerant in certain matters, particularly those which are sensitive, like religious matters, then it’s not good. You have to be a tolerant person. You should… I mean, if you want to have one opinion, and you want your opinion to be heard, then you should be able to take other people’s opinions you may not agree with.”

What Lucky Ali had said

Lucky Ali noticed a tweet which read, “Javed Akhtar tells Hindus, ‘Don’t become like Muslims. Make them like you. Don’t become like Muslims. It’s a tragedy. West Bengal Urdu Academy was right in withdrawing its invitation to this shameless bigot masquerading as a wise man.’”

Reacting to this, the singer tweeted, “Don’t become like Javed Akhtar, never original and ugly as f**k.” He later issued a clarification and wrote, “What I meant was that arrogance is ugly… it was a mistaken communiqué on my part… monsters may have feelings too and I apologise if I hurt anyone’s monstrosity.”

Javed Akhtar’s recent and upcoming work

The lyricist recently penned the lyrics for the songs in the 2024 film Yudhra. The tracks Hatt Jaa Baju and Saathiya became instant hits. He has also written the lyrics for the songs in Sunny Deol’s Lahore 1947. The film, which also stars Shabana Azmi, Preity Zinta and Ali Fazal in lead roles, is scheduled for a theatrical release next year.

Farhan Akhtar and Raashii Khanna are set to visit the city of Jodhpur for an emotional tribute on the day of the trailer launch of their upcoming war drama, 120 Bahadur. The film, based on the valour of the real-life heroes of the 1962 Battle of Rezang La, has already set expectations high for its stirring portrayal of India’s armed forces.

Farhan Akhtar, Raashii Khanna To Launch 120 Bahadur Trailer In Jodhpur

The Jodhpur visit holds special significance, as the two will be paying homage at the memorial of Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, PVC — the war hero whose courage inspired generations. During their visit, Farhan Akhtar and Raashii Khanna will also be meeting Major Shaitan Singh Bhati’s son, Narpat Singh Ji, and the family, showing the trailer first to them before the trailer is unveiled to the world.

In the film, Farhan Akhtar essays the role of Major Shaitan Singh, while Raashii Khanna appears in a significant special role — marking a meaningful on-screen reunion for the two. The choice of Jodhpur, a city steeped in military pride and royal heritage, reflects the gravity of the story the film seeks to tell.

As per a source close to the film, “Farhan Akhtar and Raashii Khanna will be visiting Jodhpur on the day of the trailer launch to pay homage at the memorial of Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, PVC. The visit is being planned as a heartfelt tribute to Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, PVC, and the spirit of valour and sacrifice that 120 Bahadur celebrates. During their visit, Farhan and Raashii will also meet Major Shaitan Singh Bhati’s son, Narpat Singh Ji, and the family, before unveiling the trailer to the world.”

Lucky Ali Issues Half-Apology To Javed Akhtar After Calling Him ‘Ugly As F**k’

Lucky Ali Issues Half-Apology To Javed Akhtar After Calling Him ‘Ugly As F**k’

by jummy84 October 23, 2025
written by jummy84

Singer-songwriter Lucky Ali has publicly addressed the backlash after targeting veteran lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar in a scathing social-media post. The controversy began when a video resurfaced showing Akhtar discussing Hindu-Muslim dynamics, and in response, Ali tweeted a remark calling him “never original and ugly as f**k.”

Days later, Ali attempted to walk back his words with what he described as a “mistaken communique.” His apology read: “What I meant was that arrogance is ugly… monsters may have feelings too and I apologise if I hurt anyone’s monstrosity…”

The initial trigger for the drama was a viral clip of Javed Akhtar. In the footage, he referred to a scene in the classic film Sholay and went on to say, “Don’t become like Muslims… You are becoming like Muslims. It’s a tragedy.” Ali had responded sharply: “Don’t become like Javed Akhtar, never original and ugly as f**k…” his post read.

Ali’s “apology” arrived in a second post on X (formerly Twitter) where he clarified his intent: “What I meant was that arrogance is ugly… it was a mistaken communique on my part…” While he acknowledged causing hurt, his tone retained a confrontational edge, especially with his line, “monsters may have feelings too…”

what I meant was that arrogance is ugly…. it was a mistaken communique’ on my part…. monsters may have feelings too and I apologise if I hurt anyones monstrosity…….

— Lucky Ali (@luckyali) October 22, 2025

While Ali’s remarks were directed at Akhtar’s words, many social-media users found his language unduly harsh and personal. Others pointed to the original clip’s ambiguous provenance, noting that the quote attributed to Akhtar could not be independently verified.

This episode highlights a charged dynamic in Indian public discourse—where past statements, resurfaced online, become rapid-fire catalysts for heated reactions and celebrity call-outs. For Ali, the moment seems to be a reminder of both the power and peril of public commentary. In his apology, he suggested he was addressing “arrogance” rather than appearance, yet the blunt wording of his original post continues to raise questions about tone, intent and consequence.

Javed Akhtar himself has not publicly responded to Ali’s remarks or the apology as yet. Known for his outspoken views on social issues, Akhtar has previously described receiving threats and abuse over his public statements.

For his part, Lucky Ali has been noted for stirring public debate recently—this is not his first controversial comment. In 2023, he faced criticism over Quranic references and made another public apology.

At its core, the incident underscores how a single viral clip can spark widespread outrage, amplify past comments, and trigger a cascade of online reactions—often involving public figures, celebrities, and broader cultural or communal reference points. Ali’s attempt at an apology shows an awareness of crossed boundaries, even as his language leaves room for debate over whether the correction was sincere or simply a strategic retreat.

As the dust settles, what remains is another example of the public-sphere tightrope: balancing freedom of expression, critique of viewpoints and the risk of personal attacks. Whether this becomes a broader turning point in Ali’s public speech or simply another internet flare-up may depend on how the conversation evolves—and whether both parties choose to engage further.

Lucky Ali Slams Javed Akhtar As ‘Ugly’ Over Viral ‘Don’t Become Like Muslims’ Remark; Later Backtracks

by jummy84 October 22, 2025
written by jummy84

In a dramatic turn of events this week, singer-songwriter Lucky Ali took to X (formerly Twitter) to publicly lash out at veteran lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar, simply calling him “never original and ugly as f***”, after a clip of Akhtar’s resurfaced with shocking comments about Hindus and Muslims. Shortly afterwards, Ali issued a clarification, saying his hateful slur had been a “mistaken communiqué” and apologising for his harsh wording.

What triggered the outburst

The firestorm began when a video clip of Javed Akhtar speaking at a past event went viral. In it, Akhtar references the iconic 1975 film Sholay, reflecting on how scenes like Dharmendra hiding behind the murti of Shiva wouldn’t be written today. He then allegedly stated — *“Don’t become like Muslims. Make them like yourself. You are becoming like Muslims. It’s a tragedy.”*

The comments sparked immediate outrage from social-media users across the board, accusing Akhtar of communal framing and insensitivity.

Lucky Ali’s reaction

Reacting to a post featuring the video, Lucky Ali responded on X with the blunt message: “Don’t become like Javed Akhtar — never original and ugly as f**…”*

His comments triggered fresh debate online — some backed his call-out of a popular figure, while others condemned his use of vitriol and wondered if the response boomeranged.

Back-pedal with an apology

Hours later, however, Ali appeared to step back from his initial attack. On his X account, he wrote: “What I meant was that arrogance is ugly…. It was a mistaken communique on my part… monsters may have feelings too and I apologise if I hurt anyone’s monstrosity.”

The apology itself drew more reactions: some appreciated the correction, others saw it as damage control. The phrase “monsters may have feelings too” drew heavy scrutiny for its unusual tone.

The wider fallout

With both figures being prominent voices in Indian pop-culture, the exchange illuminated multiple issues: communal language, public discourse, personal accountability and how social media amplifies polarisation.

Akhtar, known for his firm stands on social issues, has previously spoken about the vitriol and threats he receives from both ends of the spectrum. Meanwhile, Lucky Ali has himself been involved in earlier controversies—including a previous backlash in 2023 when he linked the word “Brahman” to “Abram”.

Why it matters

Content of speech vs reaction to speech: Akhtar’s comments raised questions about what it means to frame an entire community in certain terms.

How public figures respond: Ali’s sharp reaction and subsequent apology show the risks of commentaries that veer into insult rather than critique.

Social-media echo-chambers: The rapid amplification of a clip, the instant response, and the viral nature of both message and reaction highlight how narratives are shaped in the digital age.

Public accountability and civility: The incident underscores the thin line between standing up against remarks one considers harmful and resorting to ad-hominem attacks.

Where things stand

As of now, Akhtar has not publicly responded to Ali’s remarks or his apology. The clip continues to circulate, sparking fresh discussion about secularism, communal harmony, freedom of expression and the responsibilities of prominent personalities.

Lucky Ali’s public back-tracking has somewhat softened his initial attack, but opinions remain divided about whether his apology addressed the underlying issues.

Final takeaway

What began as a viral clip of one veteran figure’s hot-mic comments ended up as a social-media skirmish between two well-known personalities. The episode serves as a microcosm of how crowded, fast-moving and emotionally charged public discourse has become—particularly when religion, identity and culture are at stake.

At its core, the incident prompts two questions: how do influential figures talk about communal identity, and how should those around them respond when things go wrong? Whether this will lead to more reflective conversations or simply fade into the background remains to be seen.

For now, the commentary continues: both the words spoken, and the words posted afterwards.

Veteran actor Annu Kapoor is well-known for his notable films, including Vicky Donor, Dream Girl, and Mr. India, among others. Beyond films, he is also a television personality. Let’s look back at the time when he shared an interesting anecdote about legendary couple Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi’s wedding day. For the unaware, Javed and Shabana tied the knot in an intimate ceremony on December 9, 1984, at midnight in Mumbai. Read on to know more.

Annu Kapoor’s Close Bond With Shabana Azmi’s Family

In a conversation with ANI, Annu Kapoor reflected on their wedding night and explained how he played cupid in Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi’s marriage. He shared, “Let me admit and acknowledge that I’ve only been close to three families. The first was the Azmi family – Shabana Azmi, her late mother, her late father, Kaifi Saab, and her brother, Baba Azmi. These four people gave me immense love, affection, and respect. They helped me move ahead in life, and later Javed Akhtar also became part of that connection.”

Annu Kapoor Explains The Reason Behind Their Hasty Wedding

He further revealed how he actually planned the hasty wedding and convinced the couple to get married. Annu said, “I was the one who arranged Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi’s
wedding on the night of December 9, 1984, at midnight. Javed was sitting there and drunk, while Shabana was inside reading a book. So, I arrived that night, and since she considered me her brother, I told her to make a decision. He (Javed) said, ‘What decision? She’s not ready.’ So, I went to her and asked, ‘Are you ready?’ She said, ‘Yes, I am.’ Then I told him, ‘Okay, I’m going.’ She said, ‘Yes, go ahead.’”

Annu Kapoor Rushed To Bring Maulvi

“Their driver was named Michel. I told him, ‘Let’s go, Michel.’ I rushed to invite a Maulvi (priest) from Bandra Mosque. Shabana’s mother pulled out a traditional red wedding dress. Then I called Boney Kapoor and Anil Kapoor. Everyone came, and there was dancing and celebration until around 4 or 5 in the morning, after which they finally got married,” Annu concluded.

More About Javed Akhtar

Legendary lyricist Javed Akhtar was earlier married to Honey Irani and had two children – Farhan and Zoya Akhtar. They tied the knot in March 1972 and parted ways after 13 years in December 1985. Javed Akhtar fell in love with actress Shabana Azmi while being married to Honey Irani.
