bitchy | Sinclair & Nexstar capitulated & will begin to air ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ again

Disney folded in less than a week when it came to Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension. Part of it was the artist community openly expressing displeasure with censorship, but I believe an even bigger reason why Disney changed course was the mass-cancellation of Disney Plus, Hulu and ESPN+ subscriptions. When Jimmy Kimmel Live came back on air last Tuesday, he didn’t apologize but he reiterated what he said previously about Charlie Kirk’s murder, expressing his sympathy to Kirk’s family once again. Kimmel was on a tear all week about Donald Trump though, with sharp jabs and jokes about Trump’s escalator mishap and more. Kimmel is enjoying some of the best ratings in his show’s history, which is even more remarkable when you realize that Nexstar and Sinclair were not airing JKL all of last week. The two right-wing media companies own ABC affiliates across the country, and they both threw tantrums about Kimmel’s jokes and observations. Sinclair even demanded that Kimmel donate to Kirk’s right-wing political action group. Well, funny story. Sinclair and Nexstar capitulated… to Kimmel, not Trump.

The local TV station boycott of ABC‘s Jimmy Kimmel Live! appears to be ending. Sinclair and Nexstar each said that they would end preemption of the late night show Friday night. Sinclair said it made the decision after “thoughtful feedback from viewers, advertisers, and community leaders representing a wide range of perspectives.” That said, while Sinclair appears to have been seeking notable concessions (including an ombudsman at ABC), a source says that no editorial or content concessions were made by Disney.

“In our ongoing and constructive discussions with ABC, Sinclair proposed measures to strengthen accountability, viewer feedback, and community dialogue, including a network-wide independent ombudsman,” Sinclair said in a statement. “These proposals were suggested as collaborative efforts between the ABC affiliates and the ABC network. While ABC and Disney have not yet adopted these measures, and Sinclair respects their right to make those decisions under our network affiliate agreements, we believe such measures could strengthen trust and accountability.”

It was pressure from the station owners Nexstar and Sinclair that initially forced Disney to take Kimmel’s show off-air, with the two companies who collectively control nearly one quarter of all ABC stations saying they were going to preempt the show in the wake of comments he made on the program.

It is worth noting that Nexstar is in the midst of a $6.2 billion deal to acquire Tegna, a deal that if allowed to go through would make it by far the largest owner of local TV stations in the U.S. That deal requires FCC approval. Sinclair, meanwhile, has also said that it wants to engage in M&A, moves that would also require attention from the FCC. Sinclair says that the FCC did not play a role in its decision.

“Our decision to preempt this program was independent of any government interaction or influence,” the company said. “Free speech provides broadcasters with the right to exercise judgment as to the content on their local stations. While we understand that not everyone will agree with our decisions about programming, it is simply inconsistent to champion free speech while demanding that broadcasters air specific content.”

[From THR]

“…It is simply inconsistent to champion free speech while demanding that broadcasters air specific content.” The inconsistency was Sinclair and Nexstar freaking out over a perfectly accurate observation about Charlie Kirk’s alleged shooter and his politics. The inconsistency was Sinclair bizarrely demanding that a late-night talk show host apologize to Kirk’s family – apologize for what, exactly? – and donate to an ultra-right-wing political action group. Sinclair and Nexstar overplayed their hand and this is their acknowledgement of it. The FCC Chairman overplayed his hand as well, and he’s already walking back his juvenile threats too. Trump is the only one still throwing a tantrum about Kimmel, not because of anything Kimmel said about Kirk or Kirk’s shooter, but because of what Kimmel has said about Trump.

Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart Reacts to Jimmy Kimmel’s Return to Air

by jummy84 September 23, 2025
written by jummy84

Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart and Seth Meyers are celebrating Jimmy Kimmel Live! returning to the air after ABC lifted the show’s suspension.

The Late Show host said in a teaser for his show’s Monday night opening monologue, “We do, like, 160 of these a year or something and when I have the chance, it’s always nice to start the show with some good news.”

“Just a few hours before we tape this broadcast, we got word that our long national late nightmare is over, because Disney announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live! will return to air on ABC tomorrow, Tuesday night,” Colbert added, followed by cheers from him and his live audience.

“Wonderful news from my dear friend Jimmy and his amazing staff. You know, I’m so happy for them. Plus, now that Jimmy’s not being canceled, I get to enjoy this again,” he said, showing off his Emmy Award again.

“Once more, I am the only martyr in late nights. Wait, unless CBS, you wanna announce anything?” Colbert quipped in reference to the network canceling his late night show in July.

The Daily Show‘s Stewart quipped on his Monday night show that “Jimmy Kimmel’s flying high like Advil today.” His joke referenced Trump’s announcement earlier Monday that the U.S. FDA has now linked the use of Tylenol to increased risks of autism, despite decades of evidence that it is safe.

Stewart then said he wanted to get “serious” for a moment. “That campaign that you all launched, pretending that you were going to cancel Hulu while secretly racing through four seasons of Only Murders in the Building… congratulations,” he said regarding people threatening to cancel Hulu and Disney+ in protest of Kimmel’s suspension.

“Wasn’t it interesting to try and figure out all the tentacles Disney has in your daily life? It’s one thing to swear off cruises, but the Avengers, no,” Stewart continued. “How is it possible that by getting rid of one company, I can’t watch Winnie-the-Pooh or Monday Night Football or listen to early Hilary Duff?”

Meyers, the host of Late Night, also said on his show, “Minutes before we started taping, we got word that our friend Jimmy Kimmel will be back on the air,” as his audience erupted in cheers.

“A massive national backlash to Trump’s crackdown on free speech, even among conservatives. I haven’t seen a poll yet, but I think if you asked Americans if the president should be dictating what TV hosts can and can’t say, you’d get about 3 percent positive and…” Meyers continued before cutting to a clip of Trump saying, “97 percent negative.”

ABC parent The Walt Disney Co. announced early Monday that Kimmel’s show would be returning to broadcast after its brief suspension ignited a national debate over free speech and the Trump administration’s pressure tactics.

“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,” the company wrote in a statement. “It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”

Jimmy Kimmel Live! was initially suspended after a comment the host made during his Sept. 15 episode, which he suggested Charlie Kirk’s alleged assassin was a MAGA conservative, caused a stir online. FCC chair Brendan Carr also threatened ABC’s affiliate licenses over the remark, which led some to preempt Kimmel’s show at the time.

While Jimmy Kimmel Live! will return Tuesday night, Sinclair Broadcast Group shared later on Monday that it will preempt the show, noting that “discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show’s potential return.”

When Is Jimmy Kimmel Back on the Air? Latest Updates on His Return – Hollywood Life

by jummy84 September 23, 2025

Since Jimmy Kimmel Live! was “pre-empted indefinitely” in ABC’s own words, there’s a chance the comedian’s show could return. As critics and fans clash over the Disney network’s decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel, some are wondering if and when he’ll come back on the air.

Below, Hollywood Life has compiled everything we know so far about Kimmel’s potential return to ABC.

Was Jimmy Kimmel Fired by ABC?

No, despite false assumptions circulating online, Kimmel has not been fired; he was suspended “indefinitely.”

Why Was Jimmy Kimmel Suspended?

Kimmel was suspended for his remarks about Charlie Kirk‘s suspected shooter, Tyler Robinson. Days after Kimmel sent his condolences to the Kirk family and condemned gun violence, he said on his show’s September 15, 2025, broadcast, “The MAGA Gang (is) desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it. In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving.”

During that episode, the comedian showed how Donald Trump responded to a reporter’s question on how he was coping with Kirk’s death.

“I think very good, and by the way, right there — do you see all the trucks?” the president asked. “They just started construction for the new ballroom for the White House, which is something they’ve been trying to get as, you know, for about 150 years. And it’s gonna be a beauty.”

ABC affiliate Nexstar then said it would not broadcast Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the “foreseeable future” on its stations, adding that it “strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.”

Hours before ABC pulled Kimmel off the air, Brendan Carr, the head of the Federal Communications Commission, criticized Kimmel’s “MAGA” comments.

“This is a very, very serious issue right now for Disney. We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” Carr said on Benny Johnson’s show. “Disney needs to see some change here, but the individual licensed stations that are taking their content, it’s time for them to step up and say this, you know, garbage to the extent that that’s what comes down the pipe in the future isn’t something that we think serves the needs of our local communities. … There’s calls for Kimmel to be fired. I think you could certainly see a path forward for suspension over this.”

The FCC threat was the final straw for Disney, according to CNN.

Is Jimmy Kimmel Coming Back on the Air?

In a statement released by ABC on September 22, 2025, Kimmel is expected to return on September 23, 2025.

“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,” an ABC spokesperson said. “It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”

Since Disney’s ABC said Kimmel has been “pre-empted indefinitely,” there was a chance he could return, but it’s unclear when. A source familiar with the situation told CNN, “Everyone deeply values him and wants him to come back. But he has to take down the temperature [with his Trump-related commentary].”

CNN further reported that Disney’s decision to pull Kimmel’s show was not a “rash” decision. The problem “had been brewing” the week of September 15, 2025. Kimmel didn’t relent from commenting on the “MAGA gang,” so Disney executives told him to “[take] down the temperature” of what would have been his September 17, 2025, monologue, according to a separate insider. When he didn’t, Disney CEO Bob Iger and Disney Entertainment Co-chairman Dana Walden decided to yank the show “in hopes of protecting Kimmel and the Disney brand from accelerating the controversy,” per CNN.

Three sources close to the matter also told Variety that Kimmel’s legal reps were discussing a compromise with Disney and ABC bosses.

What Is Jimmy Kimmel’s Salary at ABC?

Kimmel earns around $15 million per year with ABC, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

ABC Affiliates Air Celebrity Family Feud Re-Run Instead of Charlie Kirk Tribute

by jummy84 September 22, 2025
written by jummy84

Sinclair Broadcast Group reversed its decision to air a Charlie Kirk tribute on its affiliate channels during the time slot typically reserved for Jimmy Kimmel Live! Earlier in the week, the broadcaster pulled Kimmel’s late-night show following his comments about Kirk’s assassination and announced plans to run the tribute instead at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT on Friday.

But shortly before airtime, Sinclair issued a statement on social media saying the tribute would be made available on YouTube rather than on television. In its place, its affiliates aired ABC network programming — a re-run of Celebrity Family Feud. No explanation was given for the abrupt programming change.

Priscilla Presley, the ex-wife of Elvis Presley, has opened up about her relationship with her granddaughter, Riley Keough, two years after the two reached a high-profile legal settlement over Lisa Marie Presley’s estate. Amid a $50 million lawsuit from a former business partner, Priscilla told People magazine that she never fought with Riley.

Priscilla Presley says she’s ‘very close’ to Riley Keough

Priscilla Presley and Riley Keough made headlines in 2023 after they locked horns in a legal battle over Riley Keough’s mother, Lisa Marie Presley’s estate. In her attempt to “clear some things up”, Priscilla told People: “Riley and I have never had a problem”.

The Dallas actress said.”We’re very close. We support each other,” Priscilla Presley added. She also said that she finds great joy in spending time with Riley’s children. “I love her babies. I’m really happy for Riley.”

“She’s got an amazing husband and two great children, so I’m happy for her very much,” the 80-year-old added.

Riley Keough married Ben Smith-Petersen in 2015. Keough gave birth to her first child, Tupelo, in 2022. The couple’s second child was born earlier this year.

“That’s what makes me happy: knowing everyone is doing well. I feel I’m living a good life,” Priscilla Presley said.

Judge Lynn Scaduto approved the settlement agreement between Priscilla Presley and Riley Keough in 2023. Priscilla received $1 million from Lisa Marie’s $25 million life insurance policy under the agreement, as per People.

Priscilla Presley on her ‘battle’ against Brigitte Kruse

While Priscilla Presley said she was on great terms with Riley Keough, the 80-year-old casually touched on her ongoing fight with former business partner Brigitte Kruse. Kruse and Kevin Fialko are suing Priscilla Presley for $50 million, citing fraud and breach of contract.

“I just have one battle, and that’s with a certain person,” Priscilla said. Kurse and Fialko have also alleged that Priscilla tried to remove Lisa Marie from life support to get control of the Elvis estate.

In her response, Priscilla told People that she and Lisa “were very close.” “Lisa could be hard-headed, but so could I sometimes. We had a lot of good times together,” she added.

Priscilla Presley has sued Kruse and Fialko in turn over financial elder abuse and theft of $1 million.

2025 has been a tough year for television, with networks cutting back on fan-favorite series and audiences saying goodbye to beloved characters. The list of canceled shows continues to grow, and CBS has led the pack with some of the most surprising decisions, most notably the cancellation of S.W.A.T. Executive producer and showrunner Andrew Dettmann called the S.W.A.T. cancellation “heartbreaking news,” telling Deadline at the time that the cast and crew were ” an extraordinary group of people who have all worked so hard and have been so dedicated for all these eight seasons, overcoming countless challenges.” ABC also shook late-night TV when it announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live! would be suspended “indefinitely,” though the network stopped short of calling it a full cancellation.

Below, take a look at the growing list of TV shows that have been canceled in 2025.

S.W.A.T

In March, the S.W.A.T. cast and crew assembled to rally support to potentially bring their show back. After all, this wasn’t the first time that CBS had canceled the program. Series lead Shemar Moore took to Instagram and thanked fans but noted that he’s “no quitter.”

“SWAT IS CANCELED…. AGAIN!!!” Shemar captioned an Instagram post. “After 8 seasons… CANCELED… maybe this time for good!!! But my momma didn’t raise NO QUITTER!!! No Matter what, I AM GRATEFUL n THANKFUL!!! Almost 31 years in this game of Hollywood… JOURNEY OF A DREAMER!!! To my Homies, Fans, Baby Girls, SWAT CREW, and Hollywood…. I say THANK YOU!!!! And “FILL THE GAPS n STAY LIQUID… ROLL SWAT” [sic]!!!!”

FBI: International

Along with S.W.A.T, CBS axed any future for FBI: International. Deadline attributed its cancelation to the network making room for other shows still on the air.

FBI: Most Wanted

On top of International, CBS also canceled FBI: Most Wanted.

The Neighborhood

After eight seasons on the air, CBS announced that The Neighborhood will conclude. CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach commented on the news, per Variety, and noted that the “brilliant cast and creative team” had “brought levity, laughter and poignant storylines to Monday nights for seven incredible seasons.”

Despite being a “strong ratings performer for CBS and one of the top comedies on TV,” Amy concluded that they believed “loyal fans deserve a proper farewell season full of the trademark humor and heartfelt moments that are synonymous with the series.”

Poppa’s House

After just one season, Poppa’s House was axed by CBS in April 2025. Series star Damon Wayans shared via Instagram, “Though Poppa’s House is coming to a close, I’m walking away with deep gratitude, lifelong friendships, and unforgettable memories. This show gave me more than I could’ve ever imagined. To everyone who watched, supported, and believed in us thank you. Your love means everything. On to the next chapter, with nothing but love in my heart.”

The Old Man

Hulu shocked fans when it canceled The Old Man following two seasons. The Jeff Bridges-led show was not renewed for a third season after production was paused several times, according to Deadline.

Night Court

Why Was 'Night Court' Canceled? Find Out the Reason
NBC

Right after its season 3 finale aired — which featured a Big Bang Theory reunion between Melissa Rauch and Simon Helberg — NBC canceled Night Court.

Suits LA

NBC gutted the Suits spinoff Suits LA right before its season 1 finale had the chance to air. The show was led by Stephen Amell, who played Ted Black, an ex-New York City prosecutor-turned Los Angeles entertainment lawyer.

FBI: Most Wanted

The drama series FBI: Most Wanted ran for six seasons before coming to an end in May 2025.

According to Deadline, CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach shared in May 2025, “Ultimately those deals and the shows just weren’t penciling out for us for an economic perspective.”

The Wheel of Time

Prime Video’s The Wheel of Time was not renewed for a season 4 and was canceled in May 2025, one month after its season 3 finale aired. According to Deadline, the reason behind its cancellation was financial. Despite previously being one of the streamer’s most successful and top-rated series, its viewership declined in season 3.

The Equalizer

The Equalizer, starring Queen Latifah, was officially canceled by CBS in May 2025 after five seasons. The reimagining of the classic crime series premiered in 2021 and was a consistent performer for the network in its early years.

The Irrational

NBC’s The Irrational was canceled in May 2025 after two seasons. The procedural, starring Jesse L. Martin as a behavioral science expert, premiered in fall 2023 and maintained modest ratings through its run.

Duster

After just one season on HBO Max, Duster was canceled. The short-lived series received positive reviews and starred Red, White & Royal Blue‘s Rachel Hilson and Yellowstone‘s Josh Holloway.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

Stephen Colbert‘s decade-long-running comedy series, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, was officially axed by CBS amid its parent company Paramount Global’s merger with Skydance Media and after CBS’ $16 million settlement with Donald Trump. CBS insisted in a statement that the cancelation was a “financial decision.” Stephen’s show will end in May 2026.

E! News

After more than 30 years on the air, NBCU canceled E! News, The Hollywood Reporter reported on July 24. The entertainment news television series will end on September 25 of this year.

Resident Alien

Resident Alien, which first premiered on Syfy in 2021, has been officially canceled. The USA Network announced in July 2025 that the show will conclude with its fourth season, bringing the series to a close on August 8, 2025.

“I knew going into it that this was likely going to be our final season,” creator and showrunner Chris Sheridan told TV Insider.

And Just Like That

Showrunner Michael Patrick King confirmed on August 1 that And Just Like That will end following the season 3 finale.

“And just like that… the ongoing storytelling of the Sex and the City universe is coming to an end,” King wrote in his statement. “While I was writing the last episode of And Just Like That… season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop. Along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys and Sarah Aubrey, we decided to end the popular series this year with a two-part finale and extended the original series order from 10 episodes to 12.”
