Drake Quietly Ends Partnership With Booking Agent Amid Fallout From Kendrick Lamar Feud

Drake quietly ended his relationship with the booking agent he shared with Kendrick Lamar earlier this year, according to Billboard. The move was kept largely out of public view in an effort to avoid media attention.

A source told Billboard that Drake and longtime agent Brent Smith of Wasserman Music have not worked together for most — and possibly all — of 2025. The split was linked in part to the fallout from Drake’s feud with Lamar, which escalated following the release of Drake’s Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 diss track, “Not Like Us.”

Drake had worked with Smith for more than a decade, beginning during Smith’s time at WME and continuing after Smith joined Wasserman Music in 2020. Smith currently serves as the company’s executive vice president and managing executive.

Billboard reports that Drake will now be represented at CAA by a team led by Daryl Eaton. Hits Daily Double first reported the news.

Drake’s departure from Wasserman follows the major success of Lamar and SZA’s Grand National Tour, which earned $358.6 million and sold 1.76 million tickets, making it one of the highest-grossing hip-hop tours on record, according to Billboard Boxscore. Drake is said to be preparing for his own 2026 tour with Live Nation, with whom he has a long-standing exclusive global touring agreement. The shared booking agent had been a point of interest in the industry as Drake and Lamar’s conflict intensified. Drake also sued Universal Music Group over lyrics in “Not Like Us,” claiming the statements were false and defamatory. A federal judge dismissed the case last month, and Drake’s legal team has filed an appeal.

The Lions’ Ali Kavoussi Reveals How to Make It as a Model — From Staying Confident to Finding the Right Agent

The world is your runway! And few people know better than Ali Kavoussi, founder of The Lions Management, the agency behind icons like Alessandra Ambrosio, Candice Swanepoel, Irina Shayk, Coco Rocha, Kate Upton, Stella Maxwell, Behati Prinsloo, Amelia Gray Hamlin, and more famous faces.

Now, the managing partner, known for discovering and nurturing rising stars, is telling ET exactly what it takes to land covers, book shows, and break into one of fashion’s most competitive industries.

While your walk and poses might already be strong, Kavoussi says true success begins before you step in front of the camera.

“We start with personality, story, and style and build everything from there. … Every person we represent has a point of view and we make sure the world sees it. … It’s not just about beauty. It’s presence, authenticity, and curiosity.”

From there, dedication to the craft is everything.

“One of the most surprising things about modeling is how much hard work, discipline, and self-awareness it requires. … It’s about showing up on time, being professional, understanding your brand, and building real relationships.”

And through it all, believing in yourself is key.

“Watching a model that everyone once overlooked walk the biggest runway in the world never gets old,” the businessman notes.

“I always tell the girls to fake it till you make it. Even if you’re nervous, walk in like you belong in the room, because you do,” he adds.

Just as essential: Having the right team behind you.

“It’s all about alignment. … Modeling can be overwhelming. You’re traveling constantly and signing major deals. An agent becomes your anchor. They fight for you and help you make the right long-term choices,” he shares.

This includes finding ways to make supermodels triple threats.

“Seeing Amelia evolve into a creative force, Candice launch her brand, and Irina step into high fashion are full circle moments. … My job is to protect individuality and make sure it translates from the runway, to a brand deal, to a single Instagram post. … We believe that a model can be an entrepreneur, a storyteller, and a brand,” Kavoussi explains.

Of course, knowing your angles never hurts either.

“It’s an art form. The more you shoot, the better you get. … Study light and be patient with yourself. It’s a lot of trial and error. And never underestimate the value of a great photographer,” he spills.

Dua Lipa and talent agency respond to reports of sacking agent for calling for Kneecap to be dropped from Glastonbury

Dua Lipa and her talent agency have responded to reports that she sacked her agent after he reportedly signed a letter calling for Kneecap to be removed from the Glastonbury line-up.

  • READ MORE: Dua Lipa – ‘Radical Optimism’ review: summery but slight psych-pop

The Daily Mail reported this weekend that the singer, currently on the North American leg of her ‘Radical Optimism’ world tour, parted ways with her William Morris Endeavour (WME) agent David Levy.

A source alleged that the singer “made sure through her people that David Levy wasn’t working on her music anymore,” adding that “she views him as being a supporter of Israel’s war in Gaza, and the terrible treatment of the Palestinians and that was made very clear through the letter that he signed and sent to Michael Eavis.”

Now, Dua Lipa has taken to Instagram to distance herself from Levy but clarify the reports.

“I do not condone the actions of David Levy or other music executives toward an artist speaking their truth,” said Lipa. “I also cannot ignore how this has been handled in the press. Not only was the story completely false, but the language used by the Daily Mail has been deliberately inflammatory, crafted purely for clickbait, clearly designed to fuel online division.

“It is always Free Palestine but exploiting a global tragedy in order to sell newspapers is something I find deeply troubling.”

A WME spokesperson has also disputed the tabloid accounts. They told NME: “Reports suggesting that Dua Lipa or her management dismissed one of our agents because of his political views are categorically false.

They added: “David Levy played a role in Dua’s early career (2016-2019) and as is customary, is credited both internally and in industry journals as being a member of the team. When he moved out of London in 2019, he transitioned into an advisory role and has not been involved in Dua’s day-to-day business since. Levy fully removed himself from the project among others earlier this year.”

The letter in question was an email sent to Glastonbury organisers, including co-creator Eavis, ahead of this year’s festival. Intended to be confidential, it was leaked by a Glastonbury employee.

The campaign to remove Kneecap, known for their vocal pro-Palestine views, from the line-up, was ultimately unsuccessful, and DJ Toddla T was one of the letter’s biggest critics, writing on Instagram that it “was headed by a very systemically powerful music agent and signed by 30 individuals from within the music industry.”

Lipa, meanwhile, has long been outspoken about Palestine. In 2021, she criticised an ad in the New York Times that labelled her, as well as models Bella and Gigi Hadid – both half-Palestinian – as Antisemitic.

In October 2023, she was one of a number of celebrities to sign a letter to then-US President Joe Biden calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, and she reaffirmed her stance in an interview the following January.

Last May, she shared her support for the #AllEyesOnRafah campaign in a bid to garner support for people living in cramped refugee camps in the city without humanitarian aid. She wrote on her Instagram Stories, “Burning children alive can never be justified. The whole world is mobilising to stop the Israeli genocide. Please show your solidarity with Gaza. #AllEyesOnRafah.”

A month later, she said she was “willing” to “be met with a backlash” over her comments, describing them as being “for the greater good”.

She’s also pressured Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to take action, being one of over 300 figures to sign Choose Love’s open letter urging him to “end the UK’s complicity in the horrors in Gaza. Following his response, the non-governmental organisation hit back, saying, “We need actions not words for the children of Gaza.”

Dua Lipa Denies Firing Agent Over Attempt to Ban Kneecap from Glastonbury

by jummy84 September 24, 2025
written by jummy84

Dua Lipa and her talent agency, William Morris Endeavor (WME), have responded to a report that she fired her European agent, David Levy, after he signed a leaked letter calling for pro-Palestinian rappers Kneecap to be banned from Glastonbury Festival.

Over the weekend, The Daily Mail reported that Levy was the first signatory among many Jewish music industry figures who sent a letter to Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis and his daughter Emily requesting Kneecap’s removal from this year’s festival.

“Dua made sure through her people that David Levy wasn’t working on her music any more. She is very openly pro-Palestine and that doesn’t align with David,” a source told the Daily Mail. “She views him as being a supporter of Israel’s war in Gaza, and the terrible treatment of the Palestinians and that was made very clear through the letter that he signed and sent to Michael Eavis.”

On Tuesday, September 23rd, Dua Lipa posted a statement on her Instagram Stories distancing herself from Levy while also clarifying the report. “I do not condone the actions of David Levy or other music executives toward an artist speaking their truth,” she wrote. “I also cannot ignore how this has been handled in the press. Not only was the story completely false, but the language used by The Daily Mail has been deliberately inflammatory, crafted purely for clickbait, clearly designed to fuel online division.”

The artist continued, “It is always Free Palestine but exploiting a global tragedy in order to sell newspapers is something I find deeply troubling.”

A spokesperson for WME also strongly rebuked the tabloid’s claims in a statement issued to NME: “Reports suggesting that Dua Lipa or her management dismissed one of our agents because of his political views are categorically false. David Levy played a role in Dua’s early career (2016-2019) and as is customary, is credited both internally and in industry journals as being a member of the team. When he moved out of London in 2019, he transitioned into an advisory role and has not been involved in Dua’s day-to-day business since. Levy fully removed himself from the project among others earlier this year.”

Dua Lipa has been open with her views about the Gaza conflict. In a 2024 interview with Rolling Stone, she called for a “humanitarian cease-fire” in Israel’s attack on the Palestinian people, adding that she “feel[s] so bad for every Israeli life lost and what happened on October 7th.”

“At the moment, what we have to look at is how many lives have been lost in Gaza, and the innocent civilians, and the lives that are just being lost,” she continued. “There are just not enough world leaders that are taking a stand and speaking up about the humanitarian crisis that’s happening, the humanitarian cease-fire that has to happen.”

Later that year, Dua Lipa reiterated her stance on Instagram after dozens of Palestinians were killed in attacks on Gaza displacement camps. “Burning children alive can never be justified,” she wrote. “The whole world is mobilising to stop the Israeli genocide. Please show your solidarity with Gaza.”

Kneecap’s Glastonbury appearance went on as planned, although their set was not livestreamed by the BBC. While the performance led to a criminal investigation, the case was dropped shortly after.

Since making pro-Palestine messaging central to their performance at Coachella 2025, Kneecap has faced a firestorm of backlash, including an investigation by UK authorities into resurfaced videos of the rap trio allegedly expressing support for Hamas and Hezbollah.

Although Kneecap issued a statement clarifying they “do not, and have never, supported Hamas or Hezbollah,” member Mo Chara was later charged with a terror offense for allegedly displaying a flag supporting Hezbollah. The case has been adjourned until later this month.

Most recently, the group was banned from Canada ahead of their scheduled October tour.

Dua Lipa is currently on the North American leg of her “Radical Optimism Tour.” Read our review of one of her recent New York City shows, and get tickets here.

Brazil Submits ‘The Secret Agent’ For Best International Feature Oscar

by jummy84 September 15, 2025
written by jummy84

Kleber Mendonça Filho’s The Secret Agent has been submitted as Brazil‘s entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th annual Academy Awards.

The film was picked this afternoon by the Brazilian Cinema Academy.

The Secret Agent is led by Wagner Moura and also stars Maria Fernanda Cândido, Gabriel Leon, Carlos Francisco, Alice Carvalho, and Hermila Guedes. The film was produced by Emilie Lesclaux. Co-producers include Nathanaël Karmitz, Elisha Karmitz, Fionnuala Jamison, Olivier Barbier, Leontine Petit, Erik Glijnis, Fred Burke, and Sol Bondy.

The film’s synopsis reads: Brazil, 1977. Marcelo, a technology expert in his early 40s, is on the run. He arrives in Recife during carnival week, hoping to reunite with his son, but soon realizes that the city is far from being the non-violent refuge he seeks.

The Secret Agent debuted at this year’s Cannes Film Festival where it won Best Actor for Moura and Best Director for Filho, who is best known for his last fiction feature, Bacurau. That film debuted in Competition at Cannes in 2018 and won the Jury Prize. His last feature was Retratos Fantasmas, a documentary that debuted at Cannes in 2023.

Neon will release the film in the United States. Mubi has the rights in the UK, Ireland, India, and Latin America, excluding Brazil.

Brazil picked up the Best International Feature Film Oscar last year with Walter Salles’s I’m Still Here. The decision on who would represent Brazil at the 98th Academy Awards has been a hot-button topic in the country. Filho’s The Secret Agent has been the obvious frontrunner with its two Cannes wins. However, Mascaro’s The Blue Trail has been a local box office hit. And Marianna Brennand’s debut feature Manas was given a recent boost when Sean Penn joined the production as an EP alongside Salles and two-time Palme d’Or winners Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, and I’m Still Here producer Maria Carlota Bruno.

In a Sunday Instagram post, I’m Still Here star Fernanda Torres praised the strong set of submissions, enthusing: “Brazilian cinema is reborn like a phoenix”. Name-checking The Blue Trail and Manas, Torres said her personal preference was for The Secret Agent.

AMPAS will announce the shortlist for the category on December 16, with nominations to be announced January 22, 2026. The 98th Academy Awards will take place on March 15, 2026.

How Much Does a NBA Agent Make in 2025? Complete Guide to Salary, Commission, and Career

How Much Does a NBA Agent Make in 2025? Complete Guide to Salary, Commission, and Career

by jummy84 September 13, 2025
written by jummy84

An NBA agent usually earns 4% of a player’s NBA contract and 10–20% from endorsements. That means a rookie agent might make around $30,000–$50,000 from a first contract, while mid-level agents often earn six figures. The real money comes at the top super-agents like Rich Paul can make $50M+ per year by managing stars and handling major endorsement deals. On average, sports agents across all sports earn about $61,000 yearly, but NBA agents typically earn far more because of the league’s massive contracts and global marketing power.

When an NBA superstar signs a deal worth hundreds of millions, people often wonder who made it happen. The spotlight shines on the player, but behind the scenes, an agent is the one negotiating every detail.

Take LeBron James for example. When he signed his $154 million contract, his agent earned millions just from that single deal. It sounds like a dream job, but the truth is not every agent lives at that level.

Many fans search for answers because the money in basketball is huge and mysterious. How much does an NBA agent really make? What does the job involve? And how do you even become one?

This guide walks you through everything. You will learn how agents earn their money, the commission rules, what their daily work looks like, and even who the richest agents in the game are. By the end, you will have a complete picture without needing to look anywhere else.

NBA Player Agent Salary Breakdown

So how much do NBA agents really earn from their players? The answer depends on the size of the contract, the level of the player, and the endorsements that come with it. Let’s break it down step by step.

Commission from NBA Contracts

NBA agents make their money mostly from player contracts. The NBPA sets a 4% cap on commissions. That means if a player signs a $1 million contract, the agent gets $40,000. If the deal is $100 million, the agent takes home $4 million.

For rookies, the numbers are much smaller. A first contract might pay an agent around $30,000 to $50,000. Still, every career has to start somewhere, and these deals help agents build relationships with future stars.

When a player reaches veteran or superstar level, the numbers explode. A max contract can give an agent a payday in the millions just from one negotiation.

Endorsements and Marketing Deals

Endorsements are often where agents earn even more. While contracts are capped at 4%, marketing deals allow agents to take 10% to 20% commission.

Think about shoe deals with Nike, or sponsorships with brands like Gatorade. These can be worth tens of millions. For some agents, endorsements bring in more income than contracts.

For example, if a star signs a $50 million shoe deal, the agent could pocket $5 million to $10 million just from that single endorsement.

Average vs. Top Agents

Not every agent is Rich Paul or Jeff Schwartz. The average sports agent across all leagues makes around $61,000 per year. NBA agents, because of the size of contracts, usually earn much more than this.

Mid-level NBA agents often make low six figures. They represent solid players but not household names. On the other hand, super-agents who manage global stars earn tens of millions every year.

It’s a world of extremes. Some agents struggle to stay afloat, while a few control billion-dollar deals and live at the very top of the sports business.

Salary Comparison Table

Player LevelTypical Contract ValueAgent Fee (4%)Endorsement Cut (10–20%)Estimated Agent Income
Rookie$1–2 million$40K–$80K$10K–$50K$50K–$130K
Veteran$10–50 million$400K–$2M$200K–$2M$600K–$4M
Superstar$100–200 million$4M–$8M$5M–$20M+$10M–$30M+

This breakdown shows the huge gap between new agents working with rookies and the super-agents negotiating for NBA’s biggest stars.

NBA Agent Commission Percentage Explained

Every NBA agent earns money through commission. But the percentage is not random. It is set by the NBPA (National Basketball Players Association).

The rule is simple. An agent can only take up to 4% of a player’s NBA contract. No more. That means if a player signs a $100 million contract, the maximum agent fee is $4 million.

It sounds huge, and it is. But this cap also protects players from losing too much of their income.

Outside of contracts, agents can earn more through endorsements. With shoe deals, commercials, and sponsorships, they can take 10% to 20% commission. This is why deals with brands like Nike or Adidas sometimes bring agents more money than the player’s actual NBA salary.

Compared to other sports, the NBA is very agent-friendly. NFL agents are limited to about 3% commission. In MLB and the NHL, there is no official cap, but contracts are smaller on average.

This makes basketball one of the most profitable sports for agents. A single superstar contract can change an agent’s career overnight.

What Do NBA Agents Do?

An NBA agent is more than just a middleman. Think of them as the player’s business manager, lawyer, and career coach all rolled into one. Their job is to protect the player’s interests and make sure every opportunity is maximized.

Here is what they actually do:

  • Negotiate contracts: Agents fight for the best salaries, bonuses, and player options. They know the rules of the league and use them to give their client the strongest deal possible.
  • Secure endorsements: From shoe deals to commercials, agents connect players with global brands. These endorsements often make players, and their agents, more money than NBA contracts.
  • Guide careers: Agents help players make smart choices about trades, team fit, and long-term goals. They look at the big picture, not just the next season.
  • Manage image and PR: Many agents assist with media relations and branding. A good public image increases endorsement value and career longevity.
  • Provide legal and financial advice: Agents connect players with lawyers, accountants, and financial planners. This ensures players protect their wealth and avoid mistakes.
  • Recruit new talent: Agents are always looking for the next star. Building a roster of players keeps their business growing.

Day to day, an NBA agent is on calls, in meetings, and negotiating deals. One moment they might be finalizing a shoe contract, and the next, advising a rookie on which team could be the best fit.

In short, NBA agents make sure players can focus on basketball while they handle everything else.

How to Become a NBA Agent

So, you want to become an NBA agent? Imagine sitting courtside, watching your client sign a multi-million-dollar deal that you helped negotiate. It sounds exciting, but the journey takes patience, education, and the right connections.

Here’s how the process works, step by step:

  1. Get your degree
Most agents start with a bachelor’s degree. Common choices are law, business, or sports management. These fields teach you how contracts, negotiations, and marketing work. If you want an edge, an MBA or law degree makes you even more competitive.
  2. Apply through the NBPA
To represent NBA players, you must be certified by the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA). This is the official union for players, and they regulate agents. Without this certification, you cannot legally represent anyone in the league.
  3. Pay the application fee
The process isn’t free. Expect to pay around $1,500 just to apply. Once approved, you’ll also need to cover annual fees, which can be $2,500 or more depending on how many clients you represent.
  4. Pass a background check
The NBPA wants agents with a clean record. They’ll check your financial history, legal standing, and overall credibility. Any red flags can end your chances.
  5. Take the NBPA exam
Next comes the big test. The NBPA exam covers contract rules, salary caps, collective bargaining agreements, and ethical responsibilities. You’ll need to study hard because this exam is tough.
  6. Maintain your certification
Passing the exam is just the beginning. Every year, you must renew your certification, pay your fees, and stay updated on rule changes. The NBA is always evolving, so you need to keep learning.

Becoming an NBA agent isn’t just about paperwork and exams. It’s about building trust, networking with players, and proving that you can handle high-stakes negotiations. The path is demanding, but for those who make it, the rewards can be life-changing.

Richest NBA Agents

Some NBA agents earn more in a year than many players make in a lifetime. They handle superstar clients and huge contracts, making them power players behind the scenes.

Rich Paul, founder of Klutch Sports, manages stars like LeBron James and Anthony Davis. He can earn over $50 million a year from contracts and endorsements.

Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports has negotiated deals worth over $100 million for multiple players. Agents like Bill Duffy and Mark Bartelstein also represent elite talent and handle contracts totaling billions.

The gap between average agents and super-agents is huge. Most earn six-figure incomes, while the top few make tens of millions. Success requires skill, trust, and strong relationships with superstar players.

Sports Agent Income vs. Sports Agent Salary

Many people get confused between a sports agent’s income and salary. Here’s the truth: NBA agents don’t earn a fixed salary. They work on commission. That means their earnings depend entirely on the deals they negotiate.

The average “sports agent salary” in the United States is around $61,000 according to government data. But NBA agents usually make much more because basketball contracts are huge. Even a single rookie contract can bring in tens of thousands, while superstar deals generate millions.

Endorsements add another layer. Agents can earn 10–20% from shoe deals, sponsorships, and commercials. In many cases, these endorsement commissions exceed the agent’s earnings from the player’s NBA contract.

Compared to other sports, the NBA is the most lucrative league for agents. NFL agents earn less due to lower commission caps, while MLB and NHL contracts are smaller on average. This makes basketball the top choice for agents who want to maximize income.

In short, a sports agent’s income is flexible, commission-driven, and often much higher than the average salary suggests. The bigger the client, the bigger the paycheck.

Key Takeaways

  • NBA agents earn by commission, not a fixed salary.
  • They receive 4% from player contracts and 10–20% from endorsements.
  • Rookie contracts provide smaller fees, while superstar deals can generate millions.
  • Average sports agent earnings are around $61,000, but NBA agents usually earn much higher.
  • Only a few “super-agents” like Rich Paul make tens of millions annually.
  • Becoming an NBA agent requires NBPA certification, including education, exams, and background checks.
  • Success depends on skill, trust, networking, and managing elite players effectively.

“I am under a death threat.” Neon has revealed the first look teaser trailer for the acclaimed Brazilian film titled The Secret Agent, the latest from Brazilian filmmaker Kleber Mendonça Filho. This originally premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival a few months ago to many positive reviews, and it went on to win both Best Actor and Best Director awards at the fest. Next playing at Telluride & NYFF. In 1977, a tech researcher flees from a mysterious past and returns to his hometown of Recife in North Brazil in search of peace. He soon realizes that the city is far from being the safe refuge he seeks. Wagner Moura stars as the “secret agent” Marcelo. Master filmmaker Kleber Mendonca Filho teams up with renowned Brazilian actor Wagner Moura – giving an extraordinary, career-defining performance – to craft a thrillingly unpredictable, playfully shape-shifting epic steeped in history even as it feels contemporary, paying affectionate tribute to the movies of Filho’s youth while unfolding against the backdrop of political turmoil and palpable danger. Neon has this set to open in theaters in November, hoping it’ll be a major player during the awards season.

Here’s the first teaser trailer for Kleber Mendonça Filho’s film The Secret Agent, direct from YouTube:

The Secret Agent Teaser

Amid the raucous revelry of Carnival week, a widower named Marcelo (Wagner Moura) arrives in 1977 in Recife, Brazil, a city as vibrant as it is violent. A researcher who finds himself an unwitting target in the heart of the dictatorship’s political maelstrom, Marcelo is a man on the run from mercenary killers, from ghosts of the past & from the ruthless, mischievously militant spirit of Brazil in 1977. In the midst of these mounting threats, Marcelo, with the help of a mysterious woman named Elza and her compatriots in the country’s growing underground resistance, remains primarily focused on escaping Brazil with his young son. The Secret Agent, also known as O Agente Secreto in Portuguese, is written and directed by acclaimed Brazilian writer / director Kleber Mendonça Filho, director of the films Neighboring Sounds, Aquarius, Bacurau, Crítico, Pictures of Ghosts, and many other short films. It’s produced by Emilie Lesclaux, Wagner Moura, Kleber Mendonça Filho. This initially premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. Neon debuts The Secret Agent in select US theaters starting on November 26th, 2025 this fall. Intrigued?
