A Hollywood Icon Remembered: Diane Keaton Passes Away at 79

Legendary actress Diane Keaton has died at the age of 79 in California, People reports. A spokesperson for the family has asked for privacy as they grieve this tremendous loss, and no further details have been made public. In the months leading up to her passing, Diane Keaton’s health allegedly took a sharp and unexpected turn for the worse.

According to a close friend, “In her final months, she was surrounded only by her closest family, who chose to keep things very private.” The source also shared, “Even longtime friends weren’t fully aware of what was happening. She declined very suddenly, which was heartbreaking for everyone who loved her.”

Miss Diane Really Was Her

Let’s be clear—Diane Keaton was that girl. From the moment she hit the big screen in the 1970s with her breakout role in ‘The Godfather,’ she brought a mix of grace, wit, and originality that made her unforgettable. She didn’t just act—she owned her roles, and her long-running collaboration with director Woody Allen, especially in ‘Annie Hall,’ sealed her status as a film icon. That performance not only earned her an Oscar for Best Actress in 1977, but also redefined what leading ladies could look and act like on screen.

Her impact didn’t stop there—Keaton went on to shine in classics like ‘The First Wives Club,’ several beloved Nancy Meyers films, and the ‘Book Club’ franchise, proving her staying power across decades. Born Diane Hall in Los Angeles in 1946, she was the oldest of four kids and always had that star energy. She caught the acting bug early, performing in school plays before dropping out of college and heading to New York to chase her dreams. With another actress already registered as Diane Hall, she adopted her mom’s maiden name—and the name “Diane Keaton” would go on to become Hollywood royalty.

Diane Keaton, the Oscar-winning star of Annie Hall, The Godfather films and Father of the Bride, whose quirky, vibrant manner and depth made her one of the most singular actors of a generation, has died. She was 79.

People first reported Saturday (Oct. 11) that she died in California with loved ones, citing a family spokesperson. No other details were immediately available, and representatives for Keaton did not immediately respond to inquiries.

The unexpected news was met with shock around the world. Keaton was the kind of actor who helped make films iconic and timeless, from her “La-dee-da, la-dee-da” phrasing as Annie Hall, bedecked in that necktie, bowler hat, vest and khakis, to her heartbreaking turn as Kay Adams, the woman unfortunate enough to join the Corleone family.

Her star-making performances in the 1970s, many of which were in Woody Allen films, were not a flash in the pan, and she would continue to charm new generations for decades thanks in part to a longstanding collaboration with filmmaker Nancy Meyers.

She played a businesswoman who unexpectedly inherits an infant in Baby Boom, the mother of the bride in the beloved remake of Father of the Bride, a newly single woman in First Wives Club, and a divorced playwright who gets involved with Jack Nicholson’s music executive in Something’s Gotta Give.

Keaton won her first Oscar for Annie Hall and would go on to be nominated three more times, for Reds, Marvin’s Room and Something’s Gotta Give.

In music, Keaton starred in Justin Bieber’s “Ghost” music video in 2021.

Beyond acting, Keaton also occasionally directed, with one-off episodes of Twin Peaks (1991) and China Beach (1990) and two music videos for Belinda Carlisle on her résumé: “Heaven Is a Place on Earth” (1987) and “I Get Weak” (1988).

“She was such a talent and a big part of my career,” Carlisle wrote on Instagram on Saturday. “She directed two videos of mine – Heaven Is A Place on Earth and the video for I Get Weak. She was kind and eccentric and I was blessed to know her. This is such a big loss… RIP Diane you will be missed.”

First Wives Club co-star Bette Midler also remembered “the brilliant, beautiful, extraordinary Diane Keaton.”

“I cannot tell you how unbearably sad this makes me,” Midler wrote on Instagram of Keaton’s death. “She was hilarious, a complete original, and completely without guile, or any of the competitiveness one would have expected from such a star. What you saw was who she was…oh, la, lala!”

Singer P!nk remembered Keaton, whom she said was “a muse for me in every way,” by paying tribute to “her humor, wit, charm, fashion, and laugh.” “She will be so missed,” she wrote.

Known for her quirky charm, distinctive fashion sense, and ability to portray both comedic and dramatic roles with unmatched skill, Keaton’s career spanned over five decades and resulted in an Academy Award, a BAFTA, and two Golden Globes.

She reprised the character two years later in The Godfather Part II, earning further critical acclaim.

It was her lead role in Woody Allen’s 1977 romantic comedy Annie Hall that earned her an Academy Award and established her as a true star. As the titular romantic interest for Allen’s Alvy, Keaton made bold fashion choices for the character — inspiring an entire generation of girls to explore menswear — while celebrating Annie’s quirks and passions as an independent woman of her era.

Keaton made eight movies with Allen in total, including Sleeper (1973), Manhattan (1979), and Radio Days (1987). and Sleeper. Another writer/director she worked with multiple times was Nancy Meyers, starring in the Meyers-penned Baby Boom (1987), Father of the Bride (1991), and Father of the Bride Part II (1995). Meyers then directed her in Something’s Gotta Give (2003), in which Keaton found herself in an unexpected love triangle between Jack Nicholson and Keanu Reeves.

Her other notable roles included appearing alongside Bette Midler and Goldie Hawn in the revenge comedy First Wives Club (1996); she would also team up with Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen for Book Club and its 2023 sequel. Her work as a voice actress was limited to speaking the inner monologue of a dog in Look Who’s Talking Now (1993), the voice of Dory’s mother in Pixar’s Finding Dory (2016), and a onoing role on Netflix’s Dr. Seuss series adaptation Green Eggs and Ham (2019-2022).

On television, before breaking out as a film actress Keaton appeared in the 1970s anthology series Love, American Style and Rod Serling’s Night Gallery. Later in her career, she starred in the infamous 2011 HBO unaired pilot Tilda, a show loosely based on Deadline Hollywood founder Nikki Finke co-starring Elliot Page. In 2016, she returned to HBO as a smoking, basketball-playing nun for the Jude Law-starring limited series The Young Pope. She also played Justin Bieber’s grandmother in the 2021 video for his song “Ghost.”

Outside of acting, Keaton was a photographer, producer, real estate developer, writer, and activist. She is survived by her two children.

Veteran Actress Sandhya Shantaram Passes Away

by jummy84 October 4, 2025
written by jummy84

Veteran actress Sandhya Shantaram has passed away at the age of 94. Her last rites have been performed at Shivaji Park Crematorium today morning. The actress was known for starring in various Hindi and Marathi movies, many directed by her husband V Shantaram. From the 1950s to the 1960s, her most notable movies include Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje (1955), Do Aankhen Barah Haath (1958), Navrang (1959), Marathi film Pinjra (1972) and Amar Bhoopali (1951).
The cause of her death hasn’t been revealed yet. Her family hasn’t opened up about her demise publicly.

Sandhya had begun her journey in the film industry with the movie Amar Bhoopali.  She was discovered by V. Shantaram himself. She also starred in the movie Teen Batti Char Raasta (1953), where she played an impoverished girl named Kokila. For her role in Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje, Sandhya underwent intense classical dance training to do justice to the role. The movie went on to win four Filmfare Awards and a National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.

Interestingly, much of Sandhya’s journey in the film industry has been with her husband. She starred with him in Do Aankhen Barah Haath, where she played the role of toy seller Champa. She was seen in Navrang as the wife of a poet. Sandhya gracefully danced in the song Arre Ja Re Hatt Natkhat, which went on to become a huge hit.

She also starred in Stree (1961), which showed Shakuntala’s journey from the Mahabharata. Sandhya had to prepare filming with lions as some of the scenes used real animals. Her last major role was in the Marathi movie Pinjra.

After that, her major public appearance was during the V. Shantaram Awards ceremony in 2009. She commemorated the 50th anniversary of Navrang at the event.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to her friends, family and fans at this difficult hour.

Grace Van Patten, who broke out in Hulu’s Tell Me Lies, has stepped into one of her most high-profile roles yet. She stars as Amanda Knox—the exoneree and author wrongfully convicted of murdering her roommate Meredith Kercher in Italy in 2007—in Hulu’s The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox.

Below, learn all about Grace, as Hollywood Life rounded up five facts about her acting career and background.

Grace Has Maintained a Long-Running Relationship With Hulu

Grace took on her breakout television role as Lucy Albright in Hulu’s Tell Me Lies, opposite Jackson White’s Stephen DeMarco. The series explores their toxic, on-and-off relationship over the course of eight years, beginning when they first meet at Baird University. Cast in the lead when the show was announced in August 2021, Grace brought Carola Lovering’s 2018 bestselling novel to life, with actress Emma Roberts serving as a producer. The performance cemented Grace as one of Hulu’s brightest rising stars.

Before Tell Me Lies, Grace also appeared in another high-profile Hulu project, the star-studded miniseries Nine Perfect Strangers, alongside Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, Regina Hall, and Michael Shannon. She played Zoe Marconi, a young woman grieving the loss of her twin brother while attending a 10-day wellness retreat with her parents.

Reflecting on the experience of filming in Australia, Grace told Elle in September 2021, “It’s the most beautiful place I have ever been to. It felt very real, being thrown into that environment. We had a kickoff dinner with the whole cast, and everyone was so great — there’s no shortage of humor [in that group], and it always helped.”

Grace’s First Role Was in ‘The Sopranos’

Grace was only 8 years old when she appeared in two episodes of The Sopranos, marking her first on-screen role. She got the job thanks to her dad Timothy Van Patten, who directed both episodes. Grace played Ally Pontecorvo, the daughter of gangster Eugene Pontecorvo (Robert Funaro).

Grace Leads Hulu’s ‘The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox’

This is perhaps one of Grace’s most difficult roles. Playing the real-life Amanda included filming violent and harrowing scenes from the author’s interrogations, trial and imprisonment in Italy.

“I was able to go to those places because of how deeply open Amanda was and how deeply vulnerable she was with me,” Van Patten told The New York Times in August 2025.

Grace Was Romantically Linked to Nat Wolff

Grace started dating The Naked Brothers Band star Nat Wolff sometime in 2017. The pair were seen vacationing in Ischia, Italy in July 2019. The following summer, Nat posted a sweet Instagram tribute to Grace in honor of their anniversary. The post featured a photo of the couple kissing in the pool. It’s unclear if Grace and Nat are still together.

Grace Comes From a Famous Family

Grace has several family members with ties to Hollywood. Her dad Tim Van Patten is a famous director who worked on hit shows like The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, Sex and the City, and Game of Thrones. Her uncle was actor and comedian Dick Van Patten, who died in 2015. Grace’s aunt is film and stage actress Joyce Van Patten, 88. Grace also has two famous cousins: actress Talia Balsam, 63, and former pro tennis player Vincent Van Patten, 64.

Hollywood’s First AI Actress Tilly Norwood Sparks Debate in The Industry

by jummy84 October 1, 2025
written by jummy84

Tilly Norwood, who is recognized as Hollywood’s first AI-generated actress, has become the subject of discussion within the creative community. Developed by Eline Van der Velden and her company, Particle6, Tilly is a computer-generated “girl next door” who has attracted a growing fanbase and interest from talent agencies.

Van der Velden mentioned to an industry panel in Switzerland that studios and entertainment companies are quietly embracing AI technology, which her company believes can significantly reduce production costs. She said, “When we first launched Tilly, people were like, ‘What’s that?’, and now we’re going to be announcing which agency is going to be representing her in the next few months.”

Tilly Norwood has appeared in a short sketch, and it is expected that she will become a prominent figure in the entertainment industry. Van der Velden said, “We want Tilly to be the next Scarlett Johansson or Natalie Portman, that’s the aim of what we’re doing. People are realizing that their creativity doesn’t need to be boxed in by a budget,  there are no constraints creatively and that’s why AI can really be a positive.”

The arrival of Tilly Norwood, however, has been met with some criticism from Hollywood actors and creative professionals. The use of artificial intelligence in the entertainment industry was a major point of discussion during the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes.

Actress Melissa Barrera criticised talent agents who are promoting AI actors, and she encouraged her fellow actors to refrain from supporting them.

On the other hand, Mara Wilson, who was the child star in Matilda, highlighted the ethical concerns about Tilly’s creation. She questioned, “What about the hundreds of living young women whose faces were composited together to make her? You couldn’t hire any of them?”

Regarding the criticisms, Van der Velden shared Tilly’s post defending her creation. She said, “She is not a replacement for a human being, but a creative work – a piece of art. Like many forms of art before her, she sparks conversation, and that in itself shows the power of creativity.”

Emily Blunt brands AI-generated actress Tilly Norwood ‘terrifying’

by jummy84 September 30, 2025
written by jummy84

30 September 2025

Emily Blunt has branded AI-generated actress Tilly Norwood “terrifying”.

Emily Blunt is not a fan of AI-generated actress Tilly Norwood

Newly-launched AI talent studio Xicoia have created the digital performer, with Eline Van der Velden unveiling the project at the Zurich Film Festival and it already attracting interest from talent agents, and the Smashing Machine actress is horrified by the prospect.

Shown a report on Tilly, Emily told Variety: “Does it disappoint me? I don’t know how to quite answer it, other than to say how terrifying this is.

“No, are you serious? That’s an AI? Good Lord, we’re screwed. That is really, really scary, Come on, agencies, don’t do that. Please stop. Please stop taking away our human connection.”

The 42-year-old actress noted Tilly was designed to resemble a composite of familiar stars and was told she was designed as “the next Scarlett Johansson”.

She replied: “But we have Scarlett Johansson.”

Emily isn’t the only Hollywood critic of the project.

Scream actress Melissa Barrera has branded the arrival of Tilly “gross”.

She posted an Instagram Story about the news and captioned it: “Hope all actors repped by the agent that does this, drop their a$$. How gross, read the room.(sic)”

Matilda star Mara Wilson was equally horrified.

She posted: “And what about the hundreds of living young women whose faces were composited together to make her? You couldn’t hire any of them?”

Whoopi Goldberg blasted the idea on The View and insisted the AI model would have an “unfair advantage” – but noted the technology isn’t yet “seamless” enough for them to pass as human.

She said: “The problem with this, in my humble opinion, is that you are suddenly up against something that’s been generated with 5,000 other actors.”It’s got Bette Davis’ attitude, it’s got Humphrey Bogart’s lips.

“It’s got my humour, thank you darling. And so it’s a little bit of an unfair advantage. You know what? Bring it on. You can always tell them from us. We move differently, our faces move differently, our bodies move differently…

“Hopefully, we’ll be able to hold on because what this means is AI in the workplace — not just my workplace, but in every industry.

“Some industries are using AI now. People talk about people are so lonely they don’t have a connection, if you stick with this, with AI, you won’t have any connection to anything but your phone.”

Simu Liu also condemned the project.

He sarcastically wrote on his Instagram Story: “Movies are great but you know what would be better is if the characters in them weren’t played by actual humans but by AI replicas approximating human emotion.”

Creator Eline insisted Tilly is “a piece of art” and she doesn’t view AI as a “replacement” for real people.

She wrote on Instagram: “To those who have expressed anger over the creation of my AI character, Tilly Norwood, she is not a replacement for a human being, but a creative work – a piece of art. Like many forms of art before her, she sparks conversation, and that in itself shows the power of creativity.

“I see AI not as a replacement for people, but as a new tool, a new paintbrush. Just as animation, puppetry, or CGI opened fresh possibilities without taking away from live acting, AI offers another way to imagine and build stories.

“I’m an actor myself, and nothing – certainly not an AI character – can take away the craft or joy of human performance.”
