Aamir Khan Calls Dharmendra a Gentle Giant, Reveals He Saw Sunny Deol’s Lahore 1947

Aamir Khan recently remembered late actor Dharmendra and called him underrated, despite his mastery over different genres. Speaking at the International Film Festival of India, the actor said, “Well, I’ve grown up watching him. He was known as the action hero and the He-man. And of course, he was extremely good in portraying these strong characters in action films. But I don’t know whether people have really noticed, I think he’s underrated.”

Khan continued, “His performances in romance or different genres are so great. He’s done so well in comedy. My God, he’s done amazing comedy, romance, and dramas. According to me, Dharamji was right up there… And what a handsome person.”

The actor also expressed his regret over not being able to attend Dharmendra’s prayer meet which took place on November 27.

For the uninitiated, Aamir Khan never shared the screen with Dharmendra, but he appeared as a child actor in the film Yaadon Ki Baarat, which starred Dharmendra, Vijay Arora, Tariq Khan and Zeenat Aman among others. Khan also produced Sunny Deol’s yet-unreleased film Lahore 1947. The actor revealed that they had the chance to show Dharmendra the film.

Aamir Khan Dharmendra“In fact, ‘Lahore’, the film we’ve made with Sunny. I had the good fortune of showing him the film, so he’s seen the film. It’s not released yet, of course, but I was so glad, because this was one of his favourite scripts. So, I’m so glad he got to see the film.”

The Lagaan actor further called Dharmendra a great actor and a gentle giant and continued, “Dharamji was not only a fine actor, but he was a great human being. He was so gentle. He was like a gentle giant, and he was very loving no matter who he would meet… He was a great actor, and it’s a great loss for all of us. He’s really an institution. He had such a command over his language. Unki zubaan itni saaf thi… It was so soft that it was amazing to hear him, even in live events when he would speak… I remember, I was there at the book launch for Yusuf Saab , and there he spoke. He spoke with such dignity. Really, it’s a big loss for all of us. I’m fortunate I got to spend some time with him.”

The legendary actor Dharmendra passed away at the age of 89.

Vijay Varma reveals battling severe depression, says Aamir Khan’s daughter helped him: ‘I couldn’t move from my couch’

Vijay Varma opened up about seeking therapy, and getting diagnosed with anxiety and depression.

Actor Vijay Varma has opened up about his mental health issues for the first time. The actor was in conversation with Rhea Chakraborty in her podcast, where he shared that he was diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety, and he turned to yoga as well as therapy to heal.

Vijay Varma was last seen in the web series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack.

What Vijay shared

During the chat, Vijay shared, “I was all alone in an apartment in Mumbai. Luckily, I had a small terrace — I could see the sky, be with the elements. Otherwise, I would’ve gone mad. Actually, I did. What happened to me is that pause, that constant running after work, the byproduct is that you become so lonely. I felt very lonely, very afraid and I was like why can’t I move from my couch for four days? What’s going on?”

How Ira Khan helped him

He went on to add how Aamir Khan’s daughter Ira Khan helped him at that time. He said, “At that time, Ira and Gulshan [Devaiah] were like my little support system. Ira was assisting on Dahaad, and we had all become good friends during the shoot. We’d video call each other on Zoom, have dinners — that was our circle. But I kept deteriorating. She was the first to point out, ‘Vijay, I think you need to start moving a little bit.’ She would do Zoom workouts and make me work out. Eventually, I did speak to a therapist, on Zoom, and I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety… My therapist even suggested medication. I told her, ‘Let me try managing for now.’” Vijay shared that he did surya namaskars and yoga as well as sought therapy.

On the work front, Vijay was last seen in IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack and the film Murder Mubarak. He is set to star next in Gustaakh Ishq, which is slated to release on November 28.

Hema Malini Called Shah Rukh Khan 'Very Ugly' Before Casting Him As Aamir, Salman Declined, Reveals Insider

Hema Malini Called Shah Rukh Khan ‘Very Ugly’ Before Casting Him As Aamir, Salman Declined, Reveals Insider

by jummy84 November 1, 2025
written by jummy84

In a striking revelation from Bollywood’s early 1990s days, producer and friend Viveck Vaswani recalled an unexpected moment in the career launch of Shah Rukh Khan—one that highlights both the unpredictable nature of show-business and the complex dynamics of fame.

Vaswani shared that it was actor-turned-director and star Hema Malini who offered Shah Rukh his first major film role in her directorial venture Dil Aashna Hai (1992). The story goes that Malini called Vaswani one evening and asked: “Is Shah Rukh Khan still sleeping at your place?” When he confirmed, she instructed Vaswani to bring Shah Rukh to her home at 5 pm for a meeting. Accompanied by Vaswani, an anxious Shah Rukh arrived at her residence—only to be greeted by Malini’s candid assessment of his looks: “But you’re very ugly.” The blunt remark hung in the air, yet Malini pressed on. “Why do you want him?” Vaswani asked, to which she responded simply: “Aamir Khan and Salman Khan have said no.”

Hema Malini, Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan

What followed is the kind of decision-making that characterises the film industry: Malini signed Shah Rukh for a fee of Rs 50,000, telling Vaswani, “I am Hema Malini, so there are no questions.” The film would go on to feature veteran stars such as Jeetendra, Mithun Chakraborty, Dimple Kapadia and Divya Bharti—yet, despite the delay in release, it marked a significant stepping-stone for Shah Rukh.

Vaswani painted the scene: Upon their arrival in Malini’s living-room, the duo didn’t recognise the person reading a newspaper. Only when the figure looked up did they realise it was veteran actor Dharmendra, casually dressed and seated in a lungi. The image sits in bright contrast to the glitzy aura of Bollywood—reminding us that even legends inhabit informal frames when not on screen.

What makes this anecdote resonate isn’t just the bluntness—Malini’s “you’re very ugly” comment—but the layers of ambition, choice and timing it reveals. At that point, Shah Rukh was still grinding, sleeping at Vaswani’s place, auditioning and hoping for the break that would make him something more than a supporting actor. Malini’s choice to sign him—despite the dismissed sighs of others—speaks to her eye for potential, not just aesthetics.

In the broader narrative of Shah Rukh’s rise, the moment holds symbolic value. He went on from that conversation to become one of Bollywood’s most influential stars. The film may not have launched him as blockbuster hero overnight—but it opened doors. When faced with a blunt judgement about his looks, Shah Rukh later turned it into a brand: the under-dog turned king, the “ugly” boy who captured hearts worldwide. He even admitted in an earlier interview that if people called him ugly, he would lean into it and opt for roles as the villain.

Shah Rukh Khan

The episode also gives insight into how Bollywood views image, talent and risk. Aamir Khan and Salman Khan reportedly declined the role Malini offered, giving Shah Rukh the chance—akin to how timing and opportunity shift destinies. Malini’s choice reflected a readiness to invest in someone overlooked by peers. It underscores how industry gatekeepers, backed by intuition and conviction, shape stories beyond scripts.

Dharmendra’s presence in that living-room—sitting quietly, lungi and all—adds texture to the story. It suggests that even towering stars exist in understated moments when the camera isn’t rolling. Perhaps he observed the scene quietly, aware of how fortunes change in the industry’s undercurrents.

As the anecdote circulates, it invites reflection: Is “ugly” really a definitive barrier in show-business? Shah Rukh’s journey argues otherwise. It also raises questions about commentary on appearance—and how a blunt statement by a star like Hema Malini served as a catalyst rather than a barrier. The story captures the unpredictability of casting, the ruthlessness of ambition, and the willingness of certain individuals to see beyond first impressions.

Today, films, battles and marketability dominate star-making. But in 1991-92, a nude call sheet, a crude comment, and a half-hearted yes proved enough to start a phenomenon. The choice Malini made—and the response Shah Rukh delivered—shaped an era.

Their story is more than Hollywood-style origin myth; it reflects Bollywood’s messy alchemy of looks, talent, opportunity and narrative. And in that living-room moment, with “ugly” called out and destiny nonetheless invited in, you glimpse the quiet dramatic surge behind cinematic success.

Aamir Khan's family looked after Jwala Gutta like their own for 10 months during IVF: Vishnu Vishal | Interview

Aamir Khan’s family looked after Jwala Gutta like their own for 10 months during IVF: Vishnu Vishal | Interview

by jummy84 October 28, 2025
written by jummy84

On actor Vishnu Vishal and badminton pro Jwala Gutta’s fourth wedding anniversary this year (22 April), they were blessed with a baby girl. In a sweet moment that left many surprised in July, Aamir Khan didn’t just attend her namakaran, he picked the baby’s name – Mira. (Also Read: Interview | Vishnu Vishal feels pressure of naming next film Aaryan after son: ‘Need it do well at any cost’)

Aamir Khan named Vishnu Vishal and Jwala Gutta’s daughter Mira.

“I’m very happy with whatever I have in life today,” Vishnu tells Hindustan Times in an interview. “I already had a son and have a beautiful daughter now. Life is pretty good at this time. I finally have what I’ve always wished for and it makes me happy,” he adds.

How Vishnu Vishal and Aamir Khan became friends

Vishnu says that he first met Aamir in a professional capacity, but they soon didn’t just become friends; they also became family. In 2023, Aamir’s mother, Zeenat Hussain, was receiving treatment for an unspecified illness in Chennai, and his team reached out to Vishnu for help. “He was in production for a movie then, and they needed me to find a home stay instead of a hotel for 2-3 months so his team would find enough space to work. I remember arranging villas for them to stay, and we became friends from there,” he recollects.

The Tamil actor credits the Bollywood star for shaping his perspective on cinema and life today. “His conviction has given me a new perspective towards cinema. I saw a very different man from whom I initially perceived him to be. I always loved him as an actor, but I also saw the empathy and care he has for a lot of people,” says Vishnu, adding, “Imagine having the kind of pressure or stature he has in life and to still be that gentle. I learnt from him as a producer, an actor, a father, a husband and a human being.”

Aamir Khan’s family looked after Jwala Gutta for months

But there’s more than just fondness for Aamir that makes Vishnu call him “the greatest gift God has given” him. There’s a reason why their relationship is more than that and why Aamir was the one to name Vishnu and Jwala’s daughter. Vishnu says that Jwala had given up on having babies and was even looking into adoption when Aamir helped them out in more ways than one. He recommended a doctor to them in Mumbai for IVF and went all out to ensure they have their dream family.

“He helped us find a good doctor in Mumbai for IVF treatment for Jwala. And when she became pregnant, it made us very emotional because she had almost given up…he brought back joy into our lives. He treated us like nothing less than family,” explains an emotional Vishnu. “Jwala was in Mumbai with his family for almost ten months, and his mom and sister took care of her personally. They treated her so well. That bond has now evolved into a close friendship. When Jwala became pregnant, I told Aamir he should be the one to name our baby, because he was the one to give us hope,” he rounds off.

Vishnu was married to Rajini Natraj from 2010 to 2018. They have a son, Aryan, born in 2017. Vishnu got engaged to Jwala in 2020 and married her in 2021. Their daughter, Mira, was born in 2025.

Aamir Khan’s daughter Ira Khan recently shared a heartfelt Instagram post, announcing that she has “graduated” from therapy after eight years of intensive psychoanalysis, earning praise from fans for her candid discussion on mental health. Reflecting on her journey, Ira expressed excitement and curiosity about the future, embracing the new chapter of her life with openness and self-awareness.

“I’m excited for the days to come. And the things ahead. Not any specific thing. Lots of things. All things. Generally. Is this how things were before? Is this how non-illness life is?” she wrote, highlighting the unfamiliar yet liberating experience of being on her own and learning to accept it without overthinking. “Feels unusual. Sometimes I don’t know what to make of it. Then I remember I don’t have to make anything of it. Just live it,” she added. Her husband, Nupur Shikhare, and cousin, Zayn Marie, showed support with red heart emojis, while fans lauded her honesty.

Ira detailed her therapy journey, revealing that she attended sessions three times a week over eight years. While she continues her medication, her therapist believes she is now capable of managing independently. “On 13th October, I had my last therapy session. After 3 times a week—for 8 years of psychoanalysis—I’m no longer in therapy. Not being in therapy anymore means my therapist and I felt confident that I had learnt a bunch of things, started living my life in a more helpful manner, and I’d be able to manage on my own—responsibly taking care of myself and remembering to have fun in life!” she explained

She emphasized that while she is not “cured,” she is in remission from depression and confident in managing future episodes with medication and seeking help if needed. Celebrating this milestone, Ira joyfully declared, “I GRADUATED THERAPY!! I PASSED!”

Ira Khan, daughter of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and his ex-wife Reena Dutta, has a brother, Junaid Khan, and has often used her platform to advocate for mental health awareness.

Abhinav Kashyap Accuses Aamir Khan Of Controlling, ‘Draining Out’ Filmmakers

by jummy84 October 24, 2025
written by jummy84

Filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap, known for directing Dabangg and his past conflicts with the Salman Khan family, has ignited a fresh controversy by launching a scathing attack on Aamir Khan. In a recent interview, Abhinav labeled Aamir the “sabse chalaak lomdi (the most cunning fox)” in the Hindi film industry, alleging that the star is a master manipulator who controls his projects and colleagues.

Allegations of Manipulation and Control

Speaking with Bollywood Thikana, Abhinav did not mince words, calling Aamir “the most clever thief” and “shorter than Salman.” The core of his accusation is that Aamir has perfected a method of domination over directors, a trend Abhinav claims began with the star’s associates, referencing Amol Gupte’s past situation.

Abhinav claims Aamir achieves this control by “seducing important people,” holding parties, and indulging in what he termed “debauchery,” suggesting these social tactics help Aamir find and exploit his collaborators’ weaknesses.

The director also dismissed Aamir’s renowned “perfectionism,” calling the star “anal” and stating that Aamir takes numerous takes—often 25—without any significant difference between the first and last performance, suggesting the actor “doesn’t understand acting.” Abhinav argues that Aamir “drains out” his collaborators by being excessively involved in every stage of filmmaking, from shooting to editing, thereby maintaining full creative control.

Claim of Trapping Top Intellectuals

Furthermore, Abhinav alleged that Aamir uses powerful individuals to execute his manipulation and has “trapped” some of Bollywood’s most respected creative minds.

“He’s manipulated me a lot in his ad films,” Abhinav claimed, going on to state, “He’s trapped some of the industry’s most prominent intellectuals, including Prasoon Joshi and Rakesh Omprakash Mehra… I don’t know what hold he has over them.”

These remarks come as Abhinav’s long-running public feud with Bollywood’s top stars, particularly after his fallout with the Salman Khan camp over the Dabangg franchise, continues to fuel industry debate. His unfiltered comments have once again polarized audiences, with some viewing them as a bold truth and others seeing them as a continuation of his personal disputes.

Rajkumar Hirani’s Biopic With Ranbir Kapoor Delayed; Aamir Khan’s Next in Focus

by jummy84 October 5, 2025
written by jummy84

After Sanju (2018) showcased the creative energy between Rajkumar Hirani and Ranbir Kapoor, fans were eagerly waiting for their next collaboration. The duo had reportedly been developing a biopic based on the life of an athlete, but fresh reports suggest that the project has now been postponed. The film, which was initially expected to go on floors soon, has been deferred until 2027.
According to reports, the decision came after the team realised the script needed more time to evolve. Hirani and Ranbir were said to be deeply invested in the project, having spent months brainstorming and fine-tuning the idea. However, with Ranbir’s schedule packed for the next couple of years, the director decided to put the film on hold rather than rush it. The idea is to revisit the project when both are creatively and logistically aligned, ensuring the same magic they delivered with Sanju.

In the meantime, Rajkumar Hirani is shifting his attention to another ambitious project, a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema, with Aamir Khan in the lead role. Reportedly, the film is set to begin production in early 2026, with Aamir already preparing for the role. The actor is said to be growing out his look and will begin workshops by December this year. This marks Aamir’s first time portraying a real-life personality on screen, and Hirani reportedly aims to bring grand scale and authenticity to the period drama.

Ranbir Kapoor

Ranbir Kapoor, on the other hand, has a packed slate ahead. He will next be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, followed by Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, where he plays Lord Ram. Post these commitments, Ranbir is expected to choose between two major projects, Dhoom 4 and Animal Park, both currently in advanced stages of development.
