Warner Bros. Discovery, CJ ENM Partner on K-Drama Hub for HBO Max

by jummy84 October 16, 2025
written by jummy84

Warner Bros. Discovery and CJ ENM have revealed a sweeping multi-year partnership that will bring a pipeline of Korean drama and entertainment to HBO Max subscribers across Asia Pacific, marking one of the most significant collaborations between a Hollywood studio and a Korean content powerhouse.

Under the deal, HBO Max will become the streaming home for Tving — the CJ ENM-affiliated Korean streaming platform — in 17 markets across Asia Pacific, including Southeast Asia, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The partnership includes the launch of a dedicated Tving branded hub on HBO Max in early 2026, featuring exclusive premieres of new original K-dramas alongside hundreds of hours of scripted and unscripted content from CJ ENM and TVING’s library.

Ahead of the hub’s official launch, HBO Max will begin rolling out K-content titles starting in November, including the premiere of the highly anticipated drama “Dear X” on Nov. 6.

The two companies will also co-invest and co-produce original Korean drama for global distribution on HBO Max, creating a development pipeline designed to feed the growing international appetite for Korean storytelling.

“We are honored to partner with CJ ENM, a true leader in creating universally popular stories that resonate worldwide,” said David Zaslav, president and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery. “This collaboration marks a cornerstone of our commitment to great locally relevant stories in key markets around the world.”

Miky Lee, vice chair of CJ Group, added: “K-content captivates audiences everywhere with its creativity and originality. At CJ ENM, our mission has always been to connect people through the power of storytelling. This partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery takes that mission to a new level, combining Warner Bros. Discovery’s storytelling legacy with CJ’s unique voice. Together, we will deliver authentic narratives that transcend borders on a platform where fans can discover new favorites, revisit timeless classics, and experience the best in global content.”

The deal represents a strategic bet on Korean content for Warner Bros. Discovery, which has been working to strengthen HBO Max’s position in competitive Asian markets. For CJ ENM, it offers a powerful distribution channel to expand the reach of its content library and its TVING platform beyond Korea.

“HBO Max is the streaming destination for unique, premium storytelling so this partnership with CJ ENM, a leader in the enormously popular K-content genre, aligns perfectly with our strategy and brand,” said JB Perrette, CEO and president of global streaming and games at Warner Bros. Discovery.

Tving, founded in 2020, has rapidly emerged as a leader in Korea’s streaming landscape and is currently working on a merger with Wavve, another major Korean streaming service. As of August, Tving reported 7.56 million monthly active users, representing a 4.7% increase from May. The combined reach of Tving and Wavve approaches 10 million users.

The platform has built a reputation for acclaimed original series that have traveled well internationally. Tving’s “Death’s Game” ranks as one of the best K-dramas of 2024, while “Pyramid Game” was the only Korean content invited to Series Mania 2024, Europe’s largest TV series event. “Bargain” won best screenplay at the 2023 Cannes International Series Festival, becoming the first Korean streaming original series to win at the competition.

“CJ ENM has spearheaded the industrialization and global expansion of K-content over the past 30 years, positioning itself as a global IP powerhouse,” said Pious Jung, CEO of CJ America and president of content, global business for CJ ENM. “Through our extensive partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery, we will strive for the sustainable growth of K-culture, which has now become a lifestyle for many across the globe.”

Further details on the Tving branded hub and content lineup will be revealed in the coming months.

‘South Park’ Takes On Peter Thiel’s Antichrist Obsession

by jummy84 October 16, 2025
written by jummy84

South Park returned from another two-week break on Wednesday with some fresh jabs at Donald Trump and Peter Thiel.

During the Season 27 episode ‘Twisted Christian‘, Theil visits the children of South Park to preach against the “satanic numerology shit” going on at the school, as the kids share inside jokes about the numbers six and seven (an actual phenomena taking over schools recently).

“I’m Peter Thiel and I know about the anti-Christ,” he declares in the assembly after his own theme song states the same intro, a nod to the tech billionaire’s recent lectures on armageddon and the possible identity of the antichrist.

According to Thiel’s South Park lecture, the end of the world will happen in six to seven days, as predicted by Revelation 6:7. His obsession with the numbers results in Thiel turning South Park into a surveillance state and commandeering all the students’ data to compile a list of cultists.

“Wait why is there a camera in the girls bathroom?” asks Jesus, to which Thiel declares: “To stop the anti-Christ!”

Meanwhile, Cartman has the most aggressive reaction to the numbers, going full Linda Blair with projectile vomit. This draws Thiel to his door for an Exorcist homage as he is determined to get to the bottom of the numbers’ meaning and how Cartman is supposed to stop the antichrist.

Thiel remains in contact with JD Vance, who is determined to stop Satan from birthing Trump’s demonic spawn, as the POTUS visits Planned Parenthood to try and take matters into his own hands.

Unfortunately, the doctor is unable to help give Satan an abortion, so they instead recommend Trump reach out to Thiel, expert on the antichrist.

Turning its premiere-delayed 10 episode Season 27 into a mega season, South Park airs on Comedy Central at 10 pm ET Wednesdays, and the next day on Paramount+. Unless Parker and Stone hit the wall again this year and run out of time to get an episode on the air, South Park‘s remaining Season 27 shows will land on Oct. 29, Nov. 12, 26 and Dec. 10 respectively.

Pokémon Legends Z-A starters: Which one should you pick?

by jummy84 October 16, 2025
written by jummy84

Pokémon Legends Z-A marks a new chapter for the long-running, critter-catching RPG phenomenon, and while leaks have suggested Gen 10 isn’t too far behind, we’re excited to head to Lumiose City.

While it’s a new adventure, it’s not a new generation, so we get three starter choices from earlier generations to choose from in Chikorita, Tepig and Totodile.

Which one should you pick? We’re so glad you asked – here’s the lowdown on each.

Who are the Pokémon Legends Z-A starters?

The Pokémon Legends Z-A starters are Chikorita, Tepig and Totodile.

As is tradition, these three starters fall into Grass, Fire and Water types.

Chikorita is the Grass one, Tepig is the Fire one, and Totodile is the Water one, if that wasn’t immediately obvious!

So, which one should you choose? Keep on reading and we’ll share our pick!

Which Pokémon should you pick as your starter?

While you’ll no doubt have a type preference that might have you stick steadfast to Fire, Grass or Water-type starters, the fact that these are all returning Pokémon means you can lean on nostalgia, too.

For me, I’ll be going for Totodile, since he was my starter in Johto back in 1999 (I’m turning to dust). But consider the evolution pathway, too.

You might not be overly excited by Chikorita, for example, but we all know that Meganium will wreck shop in the late game.

To help you make your decision, we’ve got some more details for you below on each of the Pokémon Legends Z-A starters.

Chikorita

  • Type: Grass
  • Weakness: Fire, Ice, Poison, Bug, Flying
  • Super Effective Against: Water, Rock, Ground
  • First Appearance: Gen 2 (Gold and Silver)

One of two Pokémon that debuted in the Johto region as starters, which are back to help you kickstart your adventure this time around, Chikorita is an adorable choice.

The Pokémon that will eventually become Bayleef and then Meganium is docile but can pack a punch with Grass-type moves, but it’s naturally weak against Tepig as a Fire type.

Tepig

  • Type: Fire
  • Weakness: Water, Rock, Ground
  • Super Effective Against: Grass, Bug, Ice, Steel
  • First Appearance: Gen 5 (Black and White 2)

First appearing in Gen 5, Tepig is another sweet Pokémon, but eventually evolves into Pignite and the fearsome Emboar.

It’s a solid starter, but you’ll struggle against Water types as you can probably imagine.

Totodile

  • Type: Water
  • Weakness: Grass, Electric
  • Super Effective Against: Fire, Rock, Ground
  • First Appearance: Gen 2 (Gold and Silver)

Another Johto starter back for a second run, Totodile is the cutest crocodile you’ve ever seen.

It evolves into Croconaw and then Feraligatr, and while Grass type is a weakness, it’s most fearful of Electric types.

The Labubu Craze Hits Season 5 in ‘Ballgame’ Episode With Philadelphia Phillies

by jummy84 October 16, 2025
written by jummy84

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for Abbott Elementary Season 5 Episode 4, “Ballgame.”]

Abbott Elementary took the teachers out to a ballgame in the latest Season 5 episode, as select faculty enjoyed a Philadelphia Phillies game in celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week.

Before the educators hit the ballpark, though, Gregory (Tyler James Williams) observed his students playing with “Lafufus,” the knock-off version of the uber-popular toy, Labubus, which resembles little fuzzy monsters. Wondering aloud how the kids can afford Labubus, since they’re so expensive, one student, who is selling Lafufus clarifies that they’re more reasonably priced.

While you may wonder what this has to do with the Phillies game the Abbott faculty attends, it all connects to Janine’s (Quinta Brunson) close call with a stray ball, which bumps her in the head. It turns out, Janine is more than reluctant about attending the game, despite her boyfriend Gregory’s excitement, and she even pads her head with a helmet and a giant foam hat on top of that.

Disney / Gilles Mingasson

Eventually, she loosens up enough to take the helmet off just in time for her to get hit with the ball. As a means of compensation, the Phillies offer to have Janine and her colleagues meet their mascot, the Phillie Phanatic. While they’re pretty excited about the special treatment, it’s their opportunity to meet Phillies left fielder Kyle Schwarber.

Taking time to chat with them and sign souvenirs, Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter) ends up selling some of the autographs back at school, only to learn that the student who purchased them had attached them to her stash of Lafufus, raising their prices in the process. But instead of admonishing the girl for her business acumen, Melissa is rather impressed, and so are we.

And while a Schwarber signature might be worth +$50 to an Abbott student or teacher, the player’s appearance surely means a whole lot more to viewers at home tuning into this exciting episode. What did you think of Abbott Elementary‘s venture into the live sporting event space? Let us know in the comments section below, and let us know your take on the Lafufus empire being built by one of the students.

Cannes Parody Goes Viral — Interview

by jummy84 October 16, 2025
written by jummy84

If you only watch one new short film this week, make it “Ovation.” That is, if you haven’t seen it already. Over the last nine days, director Noam Kroll and actor Luke Barnett racked up close to a million views across Instagram and X for their one-take short that attempts to answer a question every film festival attendee has asked themselves: What the hell do actors think about during those endless standing ovations?

Inspired by the video of Joaquin Phoenix looking bored and confused during the “Eddington” standing ovation at Cannes, the five-minute film stays on Barnett’s face as he enjoys an infinite stream of applause for his film at the 2028 Cannes Film Festival. He displays an entire character arc without a word, going from gratitude to awkwardness to boredom to illness and finally death — and it culminates with a brutally hilarious final title card.

Sul Kyung-gu in Good News

It’s the kind of concept that every filmmaker wants: fresh, simple, and instantly relatable. And these were the perfect collaborators to execute it: Barnett cut his teeth making viral FunnyOrDie videos in the early 2010s with the likes of Ryan Gosling before writing and starring in the feature “Faith Based.” Kroll’s directed five features, writes a weekly newsletter, and hosts the micro-budget filmmaking podcast “Show, Don’t Tell.” But as Barnett and Kroll told IndieWire during a recent interview, they almost backed out of making “Ovation.”

“I think I texted Noam at first being like, ‘I’ve got an idea we could do for no money really quickly.’ And he liked it and all, but then I talked myself out of it,” Barnett said. “And I was just like, ‘This probably isn’t worth doing.’ And then Noam was like, ‘Just record it on your phone in your house.’ And so I literally just did an improvised one on my phone and sent it to him. Ten minutes later, Noam was like, ‘We got to record this.’”

Kroll believed the concept was so strong it could have worked even with a lesser performance. But once he saw Barnett’s self-tape, he knew the idea had real legs.

“Initially, the thing I loved about it was it could be this Andy Warhol kind of thing. Where even if his performance wasn’t as dynamic as it ended up being, it could still work, just on this art film level,” Kroll said. “When I saw he conveyed so many different emotions in five minutes, I was like, ‘This really actually does tell a story.’ And then it made it really clear I think, to both of us, that it could be done in one take and in this very simplistic way.”

“Ovation” is proof that you don’t need a lot of time or money to make a great short. Barnett and Kroll went from idea to finished product in five days, and their only expense was renting two hours of soundstage time. They called in favors with friends to assemble a crew for two hours, during which they were able to shoot four takes.

The original plan called for an LED or rear projection screen to fill the background with a festival audience, but Kroll realized that simplicity was of the essence on such a small shoot. Instead of creating a digital background, they convinced a few actor friends to lend their services as extras. That added a human touch while streamlining logistics.

“We wanted to do this really quick because we were calling in so many favors with actor friends and people that were going to come and help,” said Kroll. “We literally had two hours booked at the studio, so I felt if we’re going to use the projector and all this technical stuff, it’s just going to complicate it. And really, the whole thing is like Luke’s performance, so anything that’s going to detract from that was going to hurt the film.”

“It ended up working out really well, because the studio had these two big soft box lights,” he said. “It was a very small room, so we had to basically shoot at a 40mm lens, two lights. We couldn’t move the camera. We were so literally boxed in and restricted to what we could do, but it was exactly what we needed. Nothing more, nothing less.”

For most filmmakers, the ultimate goal of a short film is to land a prestigious festival premiere. But despite making a film about festivals, Barnett and Kroll opted for a different approach.

They released “Ovation” online immediately, figuring that someone else could beat them to the concept if they sat on the film for too long. The strategy is clearly paying off. While they they might have closed some festival doors by making the film publicly available, the film’s online response is already a bigger victory.

“We literally submitted it to SXSW and Slamdance the day before we released it. We originally thought like, ‘Okay, this is a good little festival piece,’” Barnett said. “But it was actually my manager, I was talking to her, and she said, ‘Just one thing to think about… How long do you want to wait to release it at the risk of, does somebody make a silly TikTok about it? Or does ‘The Studio’ Season 2 do it?’ I didn’t want this to come out after those things where it’s like, ‘Oh, well they watched that season of ‘The Studio’ and just did a worse version.’”

In terms of next steps, Kroll and Barnett are keeping their options open. Some kind of festival run isn’t off the table, as it’s possible that the film’s online popularity will entice some programmers to waive their premiere requirements. Both men pointed out that festival interest also grows exponentially after your film finds some success at its first one, and the viral popularity of “Ovation” could effectively allow them to skip that first hurdle.

But whatever comes next is almost a bonus: “Ovation” has found a bigger audience than many shorts that make it into the biggest festivals, with the hundreds of comments praising the brutal commentary it offers on the state of indie film distribution. It’s a showcase for Barnett’s acting and writing and Kroll’s directing that has already been viewed over a million times. The online applause is thunderous, and the digital ovation doesn’t end when you leave the theater.

Mark Ruffalo Saved Woody Harrelson From ‘Disastrous’ Bar Fight

by jummy84 October 15, 2025
written by jummy84

Mark Ruffalo revealed on the “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” podcast that he saved Woody Harrelson from an epic bar fight when the two were in New Orleans filming 2013’s “Now You See Me,” Louis Leterrier’s heist thriller about a group of illusionists who carry out robberies. Ruffalo played an FBI agent trying to capture the group.

“We were shooting ‘Now You See Me’ in New Orleans, completely on the streets. Totally wild,” Ruffalo said (via Entertainment Weekly). “Capturing stuff on a long lens, getting dragged into bars during the middle of a scene, like in the middle of Mardi Gras.”

Ruffalo and Danson stayed out after filming wrapped for the day and went to “a packed place” to grab a drink when things escalated.

“A woman came up to [Woody] and she said, ‘Oh my God, I love you so much,’” Ruffalo said. “Woody put his hand on her arm and he said, ‘Oh, thank you. Thank you, darling.’ And this guy comes over and he pushes her outta the way, and he shoves Woody. Bad. Because Woody’s first response is not ‘shove someone back,’ but ‘immediately punch them in the face.’ Which is the right thing to do, by the way. It’s the absolute right thing to do. But then a whole melee broke out in this bar. I was in the middle of it and it was turning into a— it was getting to become a whole thing… And I grabbed [Woody].”

“I grabbed [Woody] and I pulled him out,” Ruffalo continued. “Because I was like, ‘This could be fun, but it also just could go so disastrously wrong because you and I might be able to handle ourselves but the rest of the folks we were with… I don’t think so.”

Ruffalo and Harrelson starred in “Now You See Me” alongside Jesse Eisenberg, Mélanie Laurent, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Morgan Freeman and more. The movie was a box office hit with $351 million worldwide and spawned a franchise that led to 2016’s “Now You See Me 2” and the upcoming “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t,” in theaters Nov. 14.

Watch Ruffalo’s interview on the “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” podcast in the video below.

Alejandro González Iñárritu honors Walter Salles Academy Museum

by jummy84 October 15, 2025
written by jummy84

Ed. Note: On Saturday, Walter Salles will be bestowed a Luminary Award at the Academy Museum Gala Tribute, along with Penélope Cruz, Bruce Springsteen and Bowen Yang. Multiple Oscar winner Alejandro González Iñárritu wanted to say a few things about his friend Salles, the storied director of Central Station and most recently I’m Still Here.

Walter Salles couldn’t understand how a raw piece of wood could become a giraffe or an elephant. Especially since the hands sculpting that wood belonged to the Polish artist Frans Krajcberg—a man who had arrived to Brazil without ever having had any contact with those animals. Surprised by the question, Krajcberg replied: “Well, I take the wood, and everything that is not the elephant, I remove.”

Walter learned this lesson well in 1995 when he made his first documentary about the correspondence between the sculptor Krajcberg and a woman serving a twenty-year prison sentence, Maria do Socorro Nobre. When Walter sculpts a cinematic piece, everything that is not human, he removes. What remains is the talkative biped animal we are—always naked and exposed.

His gaze is compassionate but honest. There is no place for irony or cynicism. Nor does he indulge in excess emotion or manipulation. I first met Walter more than 25 years ago after the release of Central Station that beautiful film born out of his first documentary about the correspondence between the inner worlds of Brazilian characters. Humanity seeped and shone through non-actors interacting with actors, always under the wise and soulful gaze of Fernanda Montenegro.

In his film I’m Still Here, three decades later and still faithful to Krajcberg’s teaching, Walter stripped away everything unnecessary so that we could see, with clarity, and through the eyes of Fernanda Torres, what is truly essential in a painful human experience.

Paradoxically, at a time when corporate cinema seems intent on stripping away everything human—leaving only pixels, algorithms, and the basest ideas that trigger and manipulate our most obvious, cruel, and primitive emotions—Walter removed all frontal and reductive politics which, in a binary world, just blind and agitate even more the people who already agree with us, in order to offer and explore a purely human cinematic sculpture about silence. And silence is political in singular way.

The control of the narrative and the language is the signature of every dictatorship. Censorship forces silence. Things need to be felt and understood through the gaze and not the verb. It is through silences, through the stretching of time, through the waiting for a body that does not return, that the spectators entered the film and completed it.

For Walter, the reconstruction of a family memory, at the core of the film, mirrored the rebuilding of Brazil’s collective memory. I’m Still Here architecture flows between the individual to the collective, the artistic and the politic, the local and the universal. Cinema and identity intertwined.

Over all these years, with a good bottle of red wine on the table and plenty of laughter, we have shared countless conversations about our mutual passion for the cinematic language and the construction of films. Walter always describes a film in architectural terms. A film is less a place one sees than a place one inhabits.

In my view, there are engineer directors and architect directors. The former makes vertical films—solid, functional, built with heavy strokes. The latter are more horizontal, transparent, drawn with lighter lines. For the engineer, the important thing is structure, what is visible from the outside, and the efficient, pragmatic and rational function of the materials. For the sculptor or architect director, everything revolves around what is not seen, but rather felt. It is about the relationship between exterior and interior space, privileging sensation over function—the emotion of light and space over the object itself.

To me, what defines the architecture of Walter’s cinema is nobleness. Nobleness in one’s gaze cannot be studied or imitated; It must come from within, from the filmmaker’s way of being and thinking.

In dictatorships, such as the one now unfolding at digital speed in many countries around the world, thousands or millions lose their lives or disappear. Often only the important people are remembered. Over the past five years, I listened to Walter speak of Eunice and her family with the empathy and tenderness of a son. She was an unknown figure to the world, yet essential in Walter’s life. In Brazil, as in every country scarred by dictatorship, everyone carries a Eunice in their heart. That’s why Jair Bolsonaro, the former president of Brazil, has just been sentenced to over 27 years of prison after attempting military force to overturn an election. In the United States, a dictatorship is still an abstract thought. A black cloud looming. In Brazil, they know by experience. Hatred, spread through rhetoric, populism and the internet,- acts like a virus, ravaging any healthy social organism bringing, death, destruction and pain. Just as Italian Neorealism and Brazilian Cinema Novo once did, through his cinema, Walter’s inner space opens its doors horizontally, without agendas or hierarchies, so that all human emotion can converse within this personal yet collective space.

I deeply celebrate that our admired and beloved friend Walter Salles is now deservedly receiving the Academy Museum Luminary Award for his beautiful sculptural and cinematic work.

Creator Economy dominates traditional TV market

by jummy84 October 15, 2025
written by jummy84

MIPCOM Cannes wrapped its 2025 edition this week with organizers hailing a “tipping point” moment for the global television industry, as the creator economy and digital-first talent moved to the center of the market for the first time.

“This has been the biggest step change in a generation for MIPCOM,” said Lucy Smith, director of MIPCOM Cannes and MIP London. “We’ve brought the creator economy into the heart of the market, welcomed YouTube for their first major presence, and staged our first brand-funded content summit. With the succession of deals announced this week, it feels like a tipping point for the industry.”

YouTube’s participation, including a dedicated showcase of creator-led projects, underscored how the platform’s influence now extends beyond short-form video into full-scale entertainment production. The shift was mirrored by several high-profile partnerships in the creator space, led by old-school TV giants including the BBC, Fremantle and Banijay Entertainment.

Banijay used the market to unveil its latest push into creator-led sports entertainment, launching FC Failliet/Finesse (FCF), a professional Dutch soccer club co-founded with digital creators Ilias Vietto, Aimane Charbon and Kleine John. The team, developed through Banijay’s Southfields label and NXT division, streams its matches and content online, drawing more than 22 million views to date.

BBC Studios also expanded its creator-focused operations, announcing new partnerships with YouTube’s head of global partnerships Pedro Pina to co-develop content that blends digital-native formats with BBC’s production infrastructure. Both deals signaled a broader convergence between traditional production and creator-driven storytelling.

In a deal announced Tuesday, production and distribution giant Fremantle unveiled a new partnership with social media specialist Viral Nation, teaming up on a series of shows led by YouTube creators.

Beyond digital innovation, the market saw renewed momentum in scripted and unscripted sales. Banijay Rights closed key international deals for BBC and HBO co-production Half Man, Richard Gadd’s follow-up to his Netflix smash hit Baby Reindeer, starring Gadd and Jamie Bell, will sales to Stan in Australia and Crave in Canada. The six-part drama, produced by Banijay UK’s Mam Tor Productions, follows two men across four decades of friendship and estrangement in Glasgow and is set to debut in 2026.

Banijay Entertainment inked a multi-territory format deal with Studiocanal and formats studio Dreamspark for Banijay’s Werewolves, a reality format show based on the cult board game. The high-concept social experiment show, in which a group of strangers work together to uncover the traitors, sorry, werewolves, amongst them, was a breakout hit on Canal+ in France and has already been adapted for ARD’s online service in Germany. The deal will see Studiocanal and Dreamspark lead adaptations of the show across Studiocanal’s international production footprint in the U.S., U.K., Australia/New Zealand, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Nordics, the Netherlands, Israel, Mexico, Brazil, and India.

Radial Entertainment, the new global distributor managing FilmRise and Shout! Studios, announced a major licensing deal for Conan, acquiring exclusive on-demand U.S. streaming rights to all 11 seasons of Conan O’Brien’s late-night series. The agreement gives Radial Entertainment SVOD, AVOD, EST, TVOD, and diginet rights to the show, which originally aired on TBS from 2010 to 2021.

Earlier MIPCOM deal highlights saw Cineflix Rights closing a new round of deals on darkly comic caper Sunny Nights, with the Will Forte and D’Arcy Carden-starring series, already picked up by ITV in Britain, going to Bell Media in Canada, and ProSieben in Germany, among other deals.

Other major sales activity included ITV Studios landing format deals for Solitary and strong unscripted sales across Lionsgate and Banijay’s catalogs, signaling a rebound in global distribution.

There were also plenty of new projects announced, including Mattel’s upcoming Magic 8 Ball TV series, directed by The Sixth Sense helmer M. Night Shyamalan; a TV adaptation of Dana Elazar-Halevi’s best-selling young adult book series Secret Mission from Dean Devlin’s Electric Entertainment; and Miraculous, a global theatrical feature based on hit children’s animation series Miraculous – Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir, from the Mediawan/ZAG joint venture Miraculous Corp.

Organizers confirmed that the 42nd edition of MIPCOM will return October 12–15, 2026, preceded by MIPJunior on October 10–11. The second edition of MIP London is set for February 22–24, 2026, maintaining its focus on multi-genre programming and creator-led content.

Hope Street season 5 release date confirmed – with added treat for fans

Hope Street season 5 has finally been given a confirmed released date on BBC One, and it’s sooner than fans might have expected.

The beloved Northern Irish police and crime drama will return to BBC One on Friday 31st October 2025 – what date could be more fitting for such a suspense-filled show than Halloween?

If you just can’t wait, then in an added treat for fans, the opening episodes will be available on BBC iPlayer even earlier – with season 5 currently scheduled to begin on iPlayer on Monday 27th October, with the full season available from 31st October.

Season 5 will also mark a milestone for the TV series as it will see the show’s 50th episode.

Hope Street follows the local police department in the fictional Northern Ireland seaside town of Port Devine where they tackle everything from petty thefts to organised crime, all whilst maintaining relationships with the tight knit local community.

Since its debut in 2021, the show has built up a large fanbase who have fallen in love with the show’s characters and its warm, easy-watching vibe.

The new season will see some new faces join the cast’s ranks. Cameron Cuffe, best known for ITV’s The Halcyon and the BBC adaption of Dolly Alderton’s novel Everything I Know About Love, is joining the cast as Constable Donal Gallagher, who joined the police after his promising rugby career was cut short.

Cuffe is joined by Belfast-born Jenn Murray who has appeared in Hollywood blockbusters Maleficent, Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Her character, Dr Sasha Cookson, moves to Port Devine to take over her late father’s medical practice where she finds a spark with the new constable.

But for loyal fans who might be growing concerned, not to worry – core cast members Kerri Quinn, Tara Lynne O’Neill, Aaron McCusker and Niamh McGrady are all confirmed to be returning for season 5.

Marcus Onilude (Luke Jackson), Finnian Garbutt (Ryan Power), Katie Shortt (Brandi McClure), Eleanor Methven (Lois Dunlop), Paddy Jenkins (Seamie McCarthy), RhéAna Kamalu (Chloe Jackson) and Jonny Grogan (Ross Dunlop) are also all back for more. Phew!

Hope Street season 5 is coming to BBC One on Friday 31st October 2025. All episodes of season 5 will be available to stream on BBC iPlayer the same day.
