Black Bear to Release Sydney Sweeney Boxing Drama ‘Christy’

by jummy84 September 4, 2025
written by jummy84

“Christy,” a sports drama that features a transformative performance from “Euphoria” star Sydney Sweeney as a female boxer, will be released by Black Bear in theaters in the thick of awards season.

Heading into the Toronto Film Festival where it will premiere, “Christy” was one of the hottest acquisition targets, but Black Bear, which financed the picture, has decided to take it off the board and make it the inaugural release of its fledgling distribution label. The film is a biopic of Christy Martin, a WBC female super welterweight champ. It’s directed by Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner David Michôd (“Animal Kingdom”) and co-stars Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, and Katy O’Brian.  “Christy” will be released in theaters nationwide on Nov. 7 and Black Bear plans to mount an Oscar campaign for the picture and for Sweeney’s performance, which is said to be chameleonic.

“We’re thrilled about the upcoming release of ‘Christy,’ a moving portrait of resilience and defiance from visionary filmmaker David Michôd,” said Black Bear President of U.S. Distribution Benjamin Kramer. “Led by Sydney Sweeney’s masterful transformation into the iconic Christy, capturing a young woman’s fierce determination to define her own destiny, the film is elevated by Michôd’s elegant direction and enriched by an electric supporting turn from Ben Foster. Both tender and unflinching, ‘Christy’ is a celebration of persistence, humor, and humanity in the face of unexpected turns. We cannot wait to share it with audiences across the country.”

Michôd co-wrote the screenplay with Mirrah Foulkes, from a story by Katherine Fugate. The film follows Martin as “she charges into the world of boxing under the guidance of her trainer and manager-turned-husband, Jim (Foster). But while Christy flaunts a fiery persona in the ring, her toughest battles unfold outside it, as she confronts family, identity, and a relationship that just might become life-or-death.” The film is Black Bear’s second collaboration with Sweeney, who previously starred in the studio’s horror film “Immaculate.”

“Christy” was produced by Black Bear, Anonymous Content, Votiv, Fifty-Fifty Films, and Yoki. Producers are Kerry Kohansky-Roberts, Black Bear’s Teddy Schwarzman, Votiv’s Brent Stiefel and Justin Lothrop, Michôd, and Sweeney.

UTA Independent Film Group and AC Independent co-represented U.S. rights and negotiated the deal with Black Bear on behalf of the filmmaking team. Black Bear is handling international rights and will theatrically release the film in the U.K. and Ireland.

Black Bear launched its distribution arm in July bringing over Kramer from CAA to run it and hiring David Spitz, a long-term Lionsgate distribution executive. The company has previously been an active producer and financier, backing such films as “Sing Sing” and “I Care a Lot.”

‘Blue Bloods’ Cast On Whether Fans Can Expect Visits From The Reagans

by jummy84 September 4, 2025
written by jummy84

Just how much will family visit the prodigal son Danny Reagan in Boston Blue?

The producers of the Blue Bloods spinoff handled the question diplomatically Thursday during the show’s first press conference with reporters. While talking about what to expect from the new cop series from Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, the question was inevitably asked about when or if fans can expect visits from the Reagans.

“We are a continuation of the Blue Bloods universe, which truly means we live in the same universe,” explained Sonnier. “You know … Boston and New York is only a three-hour drive. So it’s well within reason that folks from the city could make an appearance from time to time. That’s something we’re having fun playing with.”

He added later that it’s a three-hour drive “with sirens.”

As Deadline already reported in July, Bridget Moynahan will be the first Blue Bloods main cast member to make an appearance alongside Donnie Wahlberg. She will reprise her role as Erin Reagan in the premiere episode of the new series, which will air October 17.

“We landed on Bridget because in the story we were telling, it made the most sense that it would be Erin,” explained Sonnier on Thursday. “They had this relationship throughout Blue Bloods of butting heads, but she was always looking out for Danny, right? So it felt like, in this moment, who would drop everything and show up to look out for her brother but Erin? Then they can poke a little fun at each other. It’s all heart, and it’s all family.”

In addition to guest starring, Moynahan will also direct an episode of the freshman drama this season.

Boston Blue follows NYPD’s Danny Reagan (Wahlberg) as he takes a new position as a detective with the Boston PD. Once in Boston, he is paired with Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family. In addition to Wahlberg, Martin-Green and Amonsen, the Boston Blue cast includes Maggie Lawson as Sarah Silver, Marcus Scribner as Jonah Silver, Gloria Reuben as Mae Silver and Ernie Hudson as Reverend Peters.

Boston Blue, which will air in Blue Bloods‘ Friday 10 p.m. time period, is produced by CBS Studios in association with Jerry Bruckheimer Television. Brandon Sonnier & Brandon Margolis showrun and executive produce. Jerry Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed and Wahlberg also serve as executive producers. The series will be distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.

'Golden Bachelor' Season 2 Cast Revealed

‘Golden Bachelor’ Season 2 Cast Revealed

by jummy84 September 4, 2025
written by jummy84

The Golden Bachelor is revving up for its return.

The senior-aged spinoff of The Bachelor that had everyone talking when it launched in 2023 is back with its second season on Sept. 24, and ABC has released the full cast for when Mel Owens takes his turn handing out those red roses.

One of the highlights of Golden Bachelor season one was seeing the empowering women who came on national television looking for a second or perhaps third chance at love breakout to stardom, and a teaser (below) shows that this new batch of hopefuls in their golden years are just as impressive.

The reality dating series will have 23 women vying for Owens’ affection. Owens is a 66-year-old dad of two sons and former NFL player turned lawyer who played college football for the University of Michigan Wolverines, followed by a nine-year NFL career as a linebacker with the Los Angeles Rams. He is the second Golden Bachelor star in the Warner Bros.-produced franchise, following Gerry Turner in season one and Joan Vassos leading the inaugural season of the Golden Bachelorette. Several Golden franchise castmembers also joined this summer’s spinoff series, Bachelor in Paradise.

Owens made a stir earlier this summer when he said his desired range for the women on his season was under 60; he later spoke out about the stumble, saying the first thing he did when he began production on the upcoming season was to apologize to his female cast.

“I said, ‘It was unfair, insensitive. I want to earn it back. Just give me the chance,’” he said, adding that many of the women accepted his apology. But “one of the dates was a roast,” he added. “It was brutal. They were killing me… They’re brilliant. It’s shocking how brilliant they are.”

Among the 23 women who were hand-picked by ABC’s casting department to prove that “love stories don’t end with age, they only get better” are a Napa Valley vineyard owner, fitness professional, retired biomedical engineer, a CEO, librarian, former model, and a retired firefighter and bomb tech.

Here they are — pictured above and detailed below:

Alexandra, 67, a luxury yacht sales representative from Miami, Fla.
Amy, 63, a full-time mom from Short Hills, N.J.
Andra, 77, a retired federal worker from Los Angeles, Calif.
Carla, 62, a former model from Los Angeles, Calif.
Carol, 63, family manager for baseball all-star Freddie Freeman from Villa Park, Calif.
Cheryl, 66, a retired IRS employee from Englewood, Colo.
Cindy, 60, a retired biomedical engineer from Austin, Texas.
Debbie, 65, a fitness professional from Denver, Colo.
Diane, 71, a librarian from Wasilla, Alaska
Gerri, 64, a home care agency CEO from Rockville, Md.
Lily, 72, a retired elementary school teacher from Pacific Palisades, Calif.
Lisa, 66, a state park employee from Marion, Ohio.
Maia, 58, a college sports consultant from Malibu, Calif.
Monica B., 62, a flight attendant from Huntsville, Ala.
Monica P., 60, a cosmetic dentist from Birmingham, Ala.
Mylene, 61, a casino VIP host from Las Vegas, Nev.
Nicolle, 64, a yoga instructor from Miami Beach, Fla.
Peg, 62, a retired firefighter and bomb tech from Las Vegas, Nev.
Robin, 63, a wealth advisor/vineyard owner from Napa Valley, Calif.
Roxanne, 62, a longevity nurse from Austin, Texas
Susie, 62, a realtor from Del Mar, Calif.
Terri, 71, a cosmetic dentist from Houston, Texas
Tracy, 62, an interior designer from Lafayette, La.

The Golden Bachelor returns Wednesday, Sept. 24 (8:00-10:00 p.m.) on ABC, streaming next day on Hulu.

The season will be hosted by returning star Jesse Palmer and is produced by Warner Horizon Unscripted Television, a Warner Bros. Television Group company. Jessica Castro and Andrew Frank are executive producers, with Jessica Castro as showrunner.

Silksong smashes Hollow Knight peak player count in minutes

by jummy84 September 4, 2025
written by jummy84

After many long years in the making, Hollow Knight: Silksong is finally here, and it broke records (and Steam) mere minutes into its launch.

As the most wishlisted game on Steam, perhaps this shouldn’t come as a surprise. Still, we can’t help but be in awe of what the Australian trio behind Team Cherry has managed to pull off.

Perhaps what makes this record even more impressive is that the original Hollow Knight got a new all-time peak player count the day before Silksong launched.

By entering your details you are agreeing to our terms and conditions and privacy policy. You can unsubscribe at any time.

This site is protected by reCAPTCHA and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply.

That peak was 72,916 players, according to SteamDB, which is a huge achievement for a 2D indie Metroidvania that released all the way back in 2017.

An impressive figure, though one that can’t compete with Silksong’s numbers.

Hollow Knight: Silksong hit 89,646 players only 20 minutes after the game launched at 3PM BST 4th September 2025, according to SteamDB.

This number will only grow, and we will keep an eye on what the peak player count ends up being.

As Silksong wasn’t available for pre-order, the number of people scrambling to buy it and install the game managed to crash Steam, with SteamDB going down with the ship too.

Seeing as Silksong released quite early for US players and late in the day in Asia and Oceania, we may see some significant peaks and troughs, and it could be that only by the weekend, we’ll be able to witness Hollow Knight: Silksong’s true power.

Time will only tell, but we can’t wait for the dust to settle so that we can get a proper measure of how the hugely anticipated title performed – and if it has met players’ expectations.

No review code was made available, so players will be making a leap of faith. Make sure to check back in on RadioTimes.com for review roundups and post-launch coverage!

Jay Duplass Directs a Holiday Romance

by jummy84 September 4, 2025
written by jummy84

If you find yourself feeling down on your luck this holiday season, it might be time to ask yourself a simple question. Do you really need all 32 of your teeth? Couldn’t you spare one or two in exchange for a potential lifetime of happiness?

That’s more or less the takeaway from “The Baltimorons,” though Jay Duplass’ bittersweet holiday romance takes a few detours on its way there. Co-writer and star Michael Strassner gives himself a tailor-made breakout role as Cliff, a sad sack Baltimore native who can’t properly celebrate his six month sobriety milestone because he’s mourning an unsuccessful suicide attempt and his depressing (and in all likelihood, depressingly common) improv-comic-to-mortgage-broker career path. His struggles with addiction clearly took a toll on his fiancé Brittany (Olivia Luccardi), and their relationship has evolved into something more resembling a caregiver and patient than a romantic partnership (with all the resentment that accompanies that, of course). And these days, she seems more concerned about him relapsing into comedy than having a drink.

Paul McCartney 'Man on the Run'

It doesn’t take long to ascertain that Cliff is going nowhere in a hurry, but sometimes all you need is a lucky break. His comes in the form of a dental emergency when he absentmindedly walks into a doorframe on his way into Christmas Eve dinner with Brittany’s family, knocking a pearly white out of his mouth and sending him straight to the one dentist in town who’s willing to work on a holiday.

Cliff is the one having needles jabbed into his gums, but Didi (Liz Larsen) might be having the worst day of the two people in this particular dental office. Christmas Eve is her favorite day of the year, but she’s just been informed that her adult children won’t be coming over tonight because her ex-husband has decided to throw an impromptu wedding reception after his impromptu courthouse wedding with his second wife. It doesn’t help that her patient initially comes across as the most insufferable Comedy Guy you’ve ever met — nothing he does in the 101 minutes of this film suggests that he’s remotely problematic, but we all know somebody with the exact same vibe who has posted a Notes App apology on his Instagram story — and the laughing gas turns him into even more of an oversharing mess than he already was.

Cliff makes a few ill-timed passes at her under the plausible deniability of painkillers, and Didi would love nothing more than to cut ties after their appointment. But Cliff’s car gets towed, and Brittany doesn’t seem eager to come pick him up, so a combination of Good Samaritan instincts and a desire to avoid her lack of Christmas Eve plans prompts Didi to drive him to the impound lot. Neither one of them is willing to admit that they’re hanging out because they have nowhere else to go, but one errand gives way to a Christmas Eve odyssey that sees them break the law, feel the first sparks of love (or at least attraction), and commit the ultimate sin: performing improv together.

“The Baltimorons” is an Indie Movie with a capital “I,” and would likely have been branded as such even if it was produced by Paramount or Netflix. When you think of indie film as a genre (as opposed to a statement of financial affiliations), this is the kind of movie that comes to mind. It’s the tale of an unremarkable man who, through the power of cinematic storytelling, overcomes a few of his myriad flaws and is humanized in the eyes of audiences en route to a bit of incremental improvement. But Duplass’ first directorial effort without his brother Mark bears the elegant simplicity of a life spent learning how to make good Indie Movies, and its combination of charismatic leads, smooth shot compositions, and timeless Christmas music ensures that you’ll be rooting for its May-December romance to take hold by the time it ends.

December ennui is a universal experience, and this film makes no effort to hide the fact that we’re all destined to suffer from the Holiday Blues at one point or another. Human lives inevitably ebb and flow yet the calendar is consistent, ensuring that a few Decembers will always coincide with a few of our lowest points. But tragedy is often the trailer that plays before opportunity, and “The Baltimorons” makes a solid argument that every one of us is only a dental catastrophe away from turning everything around.

Grade: B

An IFC Films release, “The Baltimorons” opens in New York City on Friday, September 5 before expanding on September 12.

'John Candy' Doc Director Colin Hanks on TIFF Opening Night Film

‘John Candy’ Doc Director Colin Hanks on TIFF Opening Night Film

by jummy84 September 4, 2025
written by jummy84

On screen, John Candy was often the gregarious life of the party. He smoked and drank through a game of racquetball in “Splash,” he charmed a household of unruly kids with his free-spirited ways in “Uncle Buck” and annoyed the living hell of Steve Martin with his constant stream of chatter in “Planes, Trains and Automobiles.” But “John Candy: I Like Me,” a new documentary about his life and career that kicks off the opening night of the Toronto Intl. Film Festival, shows the private turmoil behind the comedian’s affable facade.

“There were real, serious, traumatic experiences that formed John and made him who he was,” says Colin Hanks, the film’s director. “He was an incredible human being and a kind, loving, generous spirit. But all of those qualities were coping mechanisms for a tremendous amount of pain and sorrow.”

Chief among the issues that Candy battled with was unresolved grief he felt after his father died of heart disease at age 35 when the actor was 4 years old. That gave Candy, who would die at age 43, a sense that he was on an accelerated timeline.

“This idea of borrowed time combined with the nature of show business, which is go, go, go, go, moving at the speed of opportunity. Those things came together to create this perpetual motion machine for John that made things incredibly hectic and stressful and added to that general sense of anxiety,” says Hanks.

Hanks says he related to his subject’s struggles to make sense of the death of a parent, since his mother, Samantha Lewes, died from lung cancer at a young age.

“I understand this ticking clock,” Hanks says. “My mother died at 49. I’ll be turning 48 in November. I always look at 49 as a marker for me in my life. I have zero doubt it was the same way for John.”

Professionally, Candy seemed to be unstoppable during the 1980s and early ’90s, making hits like “Stripes,” “Spaceballs” and “Cool Runnings” with everyone from Bill Murray to Mel Brooks to Doug E. Doug. But the filmmaker whose sensibility seemed tailor-made for Candy’s was John Hughes, who worked with him on six movies, including classics like “Uncle Buck,” “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” and “Home Alone.”

“They were both real, genuine people that never lost sight of that even after they became famous,” says Hanks. “In show business, you’re part of a traveling circus. You meet a lot of different people, and when you find a kindred spirit, you hold on to that, and you spend as much time with them as you can. You work with them as much as you can.”

In interviews, Candy, who struggled with his weight for much of his life, had to deal with the press making rude comments about his size. Hanks’ film contains many instances where interviewers essentially call Candy “fat” to his face, leaving him trying to smile good-naturedly. It’s shockingly cruel.

“You look at interview after interview and horrible things are being said and questions are being asked in incredibly insensitive ways,” Hanks says. “It’s tough to see how uncomfortable John was in almost every clip. And he had good reason, because some of the things that people said were disgusting and would not be tolerated today.”

To make the documentary, Hanks interviewed Candy’s co-stars and friends — a group that includes Eugene Levy, Martin Short, Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Catherine O’Hara and nearly the entire galaxy of the 20th century’s greatest comedians. Even three decades after his death in 1994, they talk about Candy with tremendous love and admiration. Hanks, whose father, Tom Hanks, co-starred with Candy in “Splash” and “Volunteers,” had his own memories of the late actor.

“It’s through kid glasses, because I knew him when I was young, but even as a child he made you feel like your opinions mattered, your feelings mattered, you mattered,” Hanks says.

Butters in 'South Park' Season 27, Episode 4
TV & Streaming

‘South Park’ Gets Biblical as Trump and Satan Go Public

by jummy84 September 4, 2025
written by jummy84

South Park‘s latest episode kicked up the season‘s plot in ways no one predicted as it skewered the international tariffs that President Donald Trump has imposed since he reentered the Oval Office and also perhaps set up the end times for humanity, when Satan himself made a surprising revelation.

The episode’s plot mostly centers on South Park 4th grader Butters in a sticky situation when he finds out what the girl he is cruising on, Red, has a birthday coming up and the only thing her little heart desires is a Labubu doll, the popular stuffed animals that have become a collectible and also a bag charm. The only problem for young Butters — other than the fact that the dolls are driving young girls in South Park to get into fights and elsewhere, into a dark Satanic fugue state that ends with one little girl hanging herself — is that tariffs keep driving up the price of the sought-after dolls. From $85 to $120 overnight. Woof.

“You think I pay a tariff?” the City Wok owner chuckles in a direct nod to the American people. “No, no, no, you pay a tariff!”

Meanwhile, the press is hot on the tail of a killer story: President Trump and Satan are an item. The official line is that Satan has been “traveling with” the president, and Trump insists he and Satan are “just sort of hangin’ out,” but as the audience at home knows, the two are ensnared in a traditional narcissist-empath relationship. The story breaks and the whole world knows of Trump’s infidelity with the Dark Lord — but he ultimately has something more important to tell everyone.

Before that reveal, Fox News gets the South Park treatment as its on-air presenters say they loooooove the coupling and keep asking, with delicious wordplay, “Is Donald Trump fucking Satan?” The on-air personalities even take a moment to demonstrate how intercourse might play out between Trump at 6’3″ and Satan, who is physically twice Trump’s size. The animated Fox News personalities then display a clear idea of this physical act of love, on air, for the conservative-leaning audience.

A despondent Satan, who is holding a mystery box, is soon approached by a cut-out head representation of Vice President J.D. Vance, who provides a shoulder for the Dark Lord to cry on.

As for the A-plot, which in many ways is back-burnered to become the B-plot as the episode moves forward, Butters eventually manages to win a chance to get his beloved Red a Labubu in a claw grab machine. She opens it at her party and lo and behold, a rare Labubu is all hers. She asks Butters to come upstairs, where he films the girls as they sacrifice a live chicken to open a portal letting in some demonic forces arise, and who turns up? Trump and Satan.

Soon enough, Satan is telling the people the full truth: he is pregnant with Trump’s baby. Will this mean the end times? How could this happen? Fox News has the answer, of course, because this is South Park.

“Yeah, demonic pregnancies work a little differently. The term is ‘butt baby,’” a Fox News staffer remarks.

The next episode of South Park is scheduled to air on Sept. 17 at 10. p.m.
