EXCLUSIVE: Voltage Pictures has acquired international rights to the high-concept horror slasher The Him from Joe Gossett (Catch Hell, Revenger). The film, which Gossett, wrote and directed, is currently in post with international sales now underway.

Pic stars Chris Elliott (There’s Something About Mary, Groundhog Day, Cabin Boy), Roxy Sophie Sorkin, Asya Miller, Mindy Cohn (Palm Royale, Billy Knight, Mother Father Sister Brother Frank) and Ryan Phillippe (Crash, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Shooter).

In The Him, a family’s elaborate Halloween display becomes a genuine massacre when a silent killer turns their home into a house of horrors—while unsuspecting crowds cheer, believing it’s the best show in town.

Pic is produced by Andrea Bucko (Alpha Gang, Dead Man’s Wire, Longlegs) of Sugar Rush Pictures and Cassian Elwes (Dallas Buyers Club, Mudbound, Lawless) of Elevated Films, alongside Joel Michaely, Veronica Radealli, and Michael Mammoliti. Tomer Shmulevich (Captivated), Meadow Williams (Den of Thieves, After), Stacey Kemp (Street Smart), Danilo Dayani, Phillip Neumann and Phillippe are executive producers, with Buck Traweek and Izak Zabek serving as co-executive producers.

White Rabbit Productions, founded by Tomer Shmulevich, and Elevated Films are financing the film.

“The film takes the audience’s love of immersive horror and turns it on its head—what if the show you’re cheering for is real? It’s a terrifying concept that will leave people talking for a long time” said Alexandra Cocean, President of Global Sales and Distribution at Voltage Pictures.

Bucko of Sugar Rush Pictures added, “The Him is a chilling reimagining of the slasher genre, masterfully blending intimate family dynamics with the spine-tingling suspense of classic horror.” She continued, “Joe Gossett has crafted the film that strikes a powerful contrast between the comfort of normal life and the brutal intrusion of violence, creating a one-of-a-kind fusion of suspense and terror with its unforgettable blend of psychological horror and shocking twists.”

Elwes of Elevated Films said, “The Him is a remarkable and unsettling film that pushes the boundaries of the slasher genre.  Joe Gossett has crafted something truly original—The Him will leave audiences haunted long after the credits roll.”

Producers Elwes and Bucko most recently premiered Gus Van Sant’s Dead Man’s Wire out of competition at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival and the 50th Toronto International Film Festival, where the movie’s North American rights were acquired by frosh distributor, Row K Entertainment.

Elliott is repped by United Talent Agency and Vault Entertainment. Sorkin is repped by Entertainment 360, UTA and Ziffren. Giller is repped by Joey Stanton at Vybe Trybe Entertainment. Cohn is repped by LB Talent and Constellation Media Group. Phillippe is repped by his manager, David Schiff, at MGMT Entertainment, and his legal team, David Weber and Lon Sorensen, at Sloane, Offer, Weber, and Dern, LLP.

Steve review: Cillian Murphy is in awards-worthy form in powerful film

by jummy84 September 17, 2025
written by jummy84

The pupils’ struggles are mirrored by Steve’s own; a driven educator cum social worker, escalating alcohol and substance abuse enabling him to keep numerous plates spinning while all around him falls apart.

Thus, the scene is set for a pivotal 24 hours during which the pressure-cooker environment is tested to its limits, in a powerful film where dark humour only partially masks a desperate state of affairs, distinguished by across-the-board memorable performances.

It’s an especially frantic day at Stanton Wood, on which a camera crew filming a short piece for a regional TV news programme coincides with a visit from the area’s pompous, knighted MP (a requisitely stuffy Roger Allam).

Cillian Murphy as Steve in Netflix’s Steve. Robert Viglasky/Netflix

Most significantly, though, representatives of the trust that bankrolls the project arrive to inform Steve and his staff that the buildings have been sold and the school will close in six months.

Director Tim Mielants drops that particular bombshell fairly early on, by which time he’s already skilfully established his characters, from the mayhem of Steve on what he calls “a roundabout of doom” and the equally well-meaning but more pragmatic Ullman, to the arguably unsung stars of the piece, the boys themselves.

Prominent among the miscreants is the troubled but clearly bright Shy, a mannered, captivating turn by Jay Lycurgo (screenwriter Max Porter’s own source novel was called Shy), who we first meet in a happy-go-lucky mood until a phone call from his mother reveals she no longer wants anything to do with him.

Shy’s individual collision course is punctuated by pocket portraits of his fellow students (quick-witted bully Luke Ayres and maniacal Joshua J Parker make strong impressions), often presented as straight-to-camera interviews being filmed by the TV crew – heartfelt and hilarious in equal measure.

Difficult and destructive influences they may be, but as Ullman says of the misfits in her charge, “I f***ing adore all of them.”

The scholastic/babysitting efforts of Murphy and Ullman are accompanied by integral support from nervous rookie teacher Simbi Ajikawo (aka rapper Little Simz) and Emily Watson as a (mostly) tranquil counsellor, comprising a fully-rounded cast that might suggest the film is an ensemble work more in keeping with the original book.

However, Murphy’s star power and undeniable charisma can’t help but dominate events, and it’s almost exclusively through him that we see Stanton Wood unravel at the start of its careening towards a grimly uncertain future.

He’s in awards-worthy form, those bright expressive eyes piercing through a flustered, dishevelled frame as his commitment to the kids never wavers, despite sombre upheavals in his life away from the school that are drip-fed to viewers with stylish understatement.

It’s high drama throughout and not always comfortable viewing, but Mielants and Porter use their canvas to shine a light on broader issues of social and educational systemic failure without once stumbling into preachiness.

This is responsible, intelligent film-making, more important and questioning than boarder dramas like the Oscar-winning The Holdovers and wisely side-stepping the shock value controversies of, say, 1979’s Scum.

Mielants is to be applauded for making his audience warm to a ragbag collection of ne’er-do-wells they might normally cross the street to avoid, and in Murphy’s title character he has helped fashion a poster child for underpaid, under-resourced workers navigating the obstacles that threaten the jobs they care passionately about.

One scene in particular, close to the conclusion of the film, reinforces the bond which inevitably forms between teachers and pupils; a dialogue-free snapshot that moistens the eyes to temporarily dilute the anger built up over the previous hour about the callous treatment by those in power towards a near forgotten underclass.

Steve will be released in select UK cinemas on Friday 19th September and on Netflix on Friday 3rd October.

Hallmark Channel’s Countdown to Christmas 2025 Movies, TV Shows: Dates, Casts, More Details

by jummy84 September 17, 2025
written by jummy84

It’s fall, so you know what that means: It’s time for Hallmark Channel’s Countdown to Christmas to officially begin. The holiday movies and TV shows kick off the festive season on Friday, October 17.

For 16 years, Hallmark Channel has been the place to go for 24/7 holiday viewing, and that will continue this year, with nearly 80 hours of all-new programming across 10 weeks. Original movies will premiere every Saturday and Sunday, series will air on Fridays and Mondays, and everything will be available to stream the next day on Hallmark+.

It all begins with the Hallmark Channel debut of the first season of Mistletoe Murders, the cozy mystery series starring Sarah Drew and Peter Mooney, on October 17. It will lead right into the Season 2 premiere, beginning November 7. Also among the series coming as part of Countdown to Christmas is Twelve Days ‘Til Christmas starring Mae Whitman and based on the popular book by Jenni Bayliss.

Hallmark has also teamed up with iconic brands, the NFL and Grand Ole Opry, for two films, Holiday Touchdown: A Bills Love Story, with cameos from Buffalo Bills players and legends, and A Grand Ole Opry Christmas, for which Brad Paisley wrote and performs original music and with appearances from other Opry members and country music artists.

Paul Campbell, Tyler Hynes, and Andrew Walker are back in their third movie as the Brenner boys in Three Wisest Men. Hallmark is reuniting Lacey Chabert and Andrew Walker for the first time in seven years (My Secret Valentine) with She’s Making a List, while Erin Krakow and Tyler Hynes will star in Christmas Above the Clouds (their first movie together since It Was Always You in 2021 and first Christmas film together).

As usual, Thanksgiving weekend will bring two movies on Friday, November 28, Saturday, November 29, and Sunday, November 30, at 6/5 and 8/7c. And every Sunday, beginning on October 19, Hallmark Mystery will feature movie merry-thons in festive, themed collections, including A Cozy Country Christmas, Thank You for Your Service, The Magic of Christmas, and A Little Christmas Faith. And every Tuesday night, starting on October 21, you can binge holiday movies with your favorite stars with back-to-back films starring Paul Campbell, Jessy Schram, Victor Webster, and more.

“It’s an honor that millions of viewers welcome Hallmark into their homes each year and make us part of their annual holiday traditions,” said Darren Abbott, Chief Brand Officer, Hallmark, in a statement. “Audiences turn to Hallmark Channel and Hallmark+ for programming that they can watch with their families that they know will fill them with hope and joy. This year promises an unforgettable slate of movies and series featuring fan-favorite actors that will deliver everything fans love about Christmas on Hallmark Channel.”

‘The Morning Show’ Review: Season 4 Is Both Utterly Nonsensical and Numbingly Monotonous

After sending Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon) into orbit and Alex Levy (Jennifer Aniston) into the arms of alt-reality Elon Musk, “The Morning Show” scales things back (relatively speaking) to focus on basic relationship drama… and makes even less sense.

Anima Vitae Follows ‘Niko’ With ‘Eek! Ghosts!,’ ‘Trash Monsters’

by jummy84 September 17, 2025
written by jummy84

Finnish animation studio Anima Vitae ain’t afraid of no ghosts. Or monsters.

The company behind the successful trilogy about Niko the Reindeer – “Niko – Beyond the Northern Lights” sold almost 3 million tickets globally – is developing 3D animations “Eek! Ghosts!” and “Trash Monsters.”

Based on beloved books by Mauri Kunnas, “Eek! Ghosts!” follows two trick-or-treating kids who end up at a party hosted by actual ghosts and monsters. Oops.

“Families love these stories because of their warmth and humor in them. The original IP is really strong – the books have been read by many generations in Finland, Europe and even in Japan,” said Anima Vitae’s CEO Antti Haikala.

Paying respect to Kunnas’ “rich illustrations,” full of little details and jokes, proved challenging at first.

“It has taken a while to transform this into animation. We’ve been working with Mauri on multiple shorter projects now and we’ve found a way to bring the spirit of the books into films, and to capture the spark of his original work.”

Haikala added: “Creating ‘safe excitement’ for families and telling meaningful stories is key, and Mauri’s stories already have these attributes. They can be just silly, but they often examine how instead of being scared you can actually learn something.”

Same can be said for “Trash Monsters,” also looming on the horizon.

In the film, a girl accidentally creates a monster out of trash. Soon, she befriends him and can lean on him also when facing big dangers on her grandmother’s island – one that’s on the verge of ecological catastrophe.

“We would like to find partners from south-east Asia as the story is located in that region,” he stressed. An original story, “Trash Monsters” comes from Australian writer-producer Joseph Taylor, based in Bali.

Nordic stories often combine darkness and humor. For Anima Vitae, it feels “natural to follow this path.”

“It all boils down to never underestimating your audience. Kids will need to face many of these themes as they grow up. We want them to experience them through our films, in a fun setting,” said Haikala. They also recently premiered “Fleak” at Annecy. The film be released in the U.S. by Impossible Dream Entertainment and The Fithian Group’s theatrical distribution unit Attend.

Director and scriptwriter Kari Juusonen, who also helmed the “Niko” movies, is working on story development for both projects. Screenwriter Leo Viirret will work on “Ghosts,” while art director Mikko Pitkänen (“Niko” and “Fleak“) is overseeing both titles.

The success of “Niko” allowed the company to experiment a little, especially while “testing the boundaries of what content can be produced within the family space.”

“At the same time, we need to be mindful of our audience. Our films only matter if the audience sees them. We need to be able to offer them a great experience as a family, in the cinema or at home,” he noted.

“[At Anima Vitae] we have been developing a style that’s not ultra-realistic – it’s cinematic. We think animation is about the visual world and not some downgraded copy of it. You shouldn’t just keep adding pixels to the screen.”

“Animated films are more identifiable and leave more of an impression if they have a stylized look. If you have a style, it’s a statement that doesn’t get old quickly.”

Although the Finnish film industry is currently facing steep cuts, Haikala isn’t giving up just yet.

“We’ve been around for 25 years and seen many mayhems on the road. It’s always worrying, but your only option is to try and find a way through the stormy waters. So far, we’ve been lucky,” he said.

“We have always prioritized sustainability and long-term development, and this has led us to make choices that are hopefully more long-lasting. We try to see opportunities instead of threats. And we are stubborn.”

Spain Submits ‘Sirât’ For Best International Feature Film

written by jummy84

Oliver Laxe’s Sirat, which won the jury prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, has been submitted as Spain’s entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th annual Academy Awards.

The film was picked this afternoon by the Spanish Film Academy. Sirat was chosen from a shortlist of three films, which included Carla Simón’s Romería and Sorda, directed by Eva Libertad.

Sirat follows man (Sergi López) and his son (Bruno Núñez Arjona) arrive at a remote rave in the mountains of southern Morocco. They are looking for Mar, their daughter and sister, who disappeared months ago at one of these parties that never end. They hand out her photo over and over again, surrounded by electronic music and a kind of freedom they have never known. There, they decide to follow a group of ravers in search of one last party to be held in the desert, where they hope to find the missing young woman.

The film stars veteran actor Sergi Lopez alongside Bruno Núñez Arjona, Richard Bellamy, Stefania Gadda, and Joshua Liam Henderson.

Sirat is an original Movistar Plus+ film produced in collaboration with Filmes da Ermida, El Deseo, Uri Films and 4a4 Productions, distributed in Spain by Bteam Pictures. International sales are handled by The Match Factory. Neon will release the film in the United States.

Filmmaker Pablo Berger, who was Oscar-nominated last year for Robot Dreams, announced this pick this morning. He was joined by Spanish Academy President Fernando Méndez-Leite.

Spain’s pick last year was Saturn Return by Isaki Lacuesta and Pol Rodríguez. The film did not make the shortlist.

Sirat will screen at the upcoming San Sebastian Film Festival.

Dancing with the Stars is back in the ballroom!

The ABC dance competition kicked off its 34th season on Tuesday night, signifying 20 years on air. Celebrity contestants ranging from reality stars to Hollywood legends hit the stage where they were tasked to dance to their self-proclaimed anthems.

The slate of celebrity contestants includes Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Jen Affleck , author/influencer (and wife to Alec Baldwin) Hilaria Baldwin, Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles, retired NBA star Baron Davis, social media personality Alix Earle, The Traitors season three winner Dylan Efron and actor/musician Corey Feldman.

Also rounding out the cast are Boy Meets World star Danielle Fishel, The Parent Trap and Freakier Friday actress Elaine Hendrix, Pentatonix’s Scott Hoying, conservationist (and son to Steve Irwin) Robert Irwin, Fifth Harmony member Lauren Jauregui, fellow Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Whitney Leavitt and comedian/actor Andy Richter.

In a turn of events, Carrie Ann Inaba missed the show due to an illness. No guest judge stepped in to fill Inaba’s shoes, leaving only Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough on the judges panel. Contestants were scored out of 20 points, instead of the traditional 30 with three main judges.

Leavitt and Irwin walked away from the night with the highest scores, both earning a 15/20, respectively. Notably, Tonioli held up a “seven” paddle when scoring the reality TV star, but actually inputed an eight into the show’s system, so she was awarded a 15 as her overall score. In the audience, the full cast of Mormon Wives was in attendance to cheer Affleck and Leavitt on.

Later in the night, competitors revealed their triumphs to make it to DWTS, with Fishel reflecting on beating cancer, Feldman noting he was competing with scoliosis and Baldwin making her return to dance after a hip injury. When asked why Richter wanted to take part in the show, he joked that it was for the “paycheck” that comes along with competing on the reality show.

However, the standout moment of the night likely arrived after Irwin delivered the final performance and judge Hough proclaimed that he gave “the best first dance I’ve ever seen on the show.” Irwin is competing on the show 10 years after his elder sister, Bindi Irwin, competed and won with Hough during season 21.

In tune with past seasons, no one was eliminated during the premiere. However, it was revealed that during next Tuesday’s show, two couples will be voted off in a double elimination.

Returning professional dancers include Gleb Savchenko, Ezra Sosa, Britt Stewart, Val Chmerkovskiy, Daniella Karagach, Jenna Johnson, Pasha Pashkov, Alan Bersten, Rylee Arnold, Witney Carson, Brandon Armstrong, Mark Ballas and Emma Slater, alongside newcomer and Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour dancer Jan Ravnik.  Former celebrity contestant and champion Alfonso Ribeiro and previous professional dancer Julianne Hough returned as co-hosts.

See the full list of scores for the season 34 premiere of DWTS below.

Jordan Chiles and Ezra Sosa: 10/20
Dylan Efron and Daniella Karagach: 10/20
Elaine Hendrix and Alan Bersten: 12/20
Whitney Leavitt and Mark Ballas: 15/20
Baron Davis and Britt Stewart: 10/20
Alix Earle and Val Chmerkovskiy: 13/20
Scott Hoying and Rylee Arnold: 10/20
Danielle Fishel and Pasha Pashkov: 12/20
Jen Affleck and Jan Ravnik: 12/20
Corey Feldman and Jenna Johnson: 9/20
Lauren Jauregui and Brandon Armstrong: 13/20
Andy Richter and Emma Slater: 9/20
Hilaria Baldwin and Gleb Savchenko: 14/20
Robert Irwin and Witney Carson: 15/20

Season 34 of DWTS will air and stream simultaneously on ABC and Disney+ on Tuesdays, with new episodes available to stream on Wednesdays on Hulu.

Industry season 4 teased by Marisa Abela as she promises a very different Yasmin

by jummy84 September 17, 2025
written by jummy84

Filming has now been completed on the upcoming fourth season of Industry, and Yasmin star Marisa Abela has teased what fans can expect from her character.

At the end of season 3, Yasmin was no longer working in the financial sector, and had agreed to marry British aristocrat Sir Henry Muck, played by Kit Harington.

Now, speaking with Radio Times magazine for View From My Sofa, Abela teased season 4 and how it differs from previous instalments of the HBO/BBC drama.

“There are new characters, so it was really fun to work with those new people,” she said. “I also think it’s safe to say that Yasmin is at a different place in her life. You met Yasmin when she was an intern, carrying salads, and now she’s in a very different place.

“The journey that she’s had, she’s grown up a lot. I think I’m playing the most grown version of Yasmin this season, and that’s quite interesting.”

New stars joining Industry season 4 include Max Minghella, Kiernan Shipka, Jack Farthing, Toheeb Jimoh, Amy James-Kelly, Kal Penn, Charlie Heaton and Claire Forlani.

Meanwhile, one original character who won’t be seen in season 4 is Harry Lawtey’s Robert Spearing, with Lawtey having left the show due to scheduling conflicts.

Abela can now be heard starring in Audible’s new full-cast audio version of Pride and Prejudice, alongside Harris Dickinson as Mr Darcy.

Other cast members include Will Poulter as Mr Wickham, Jessie Buckley as Caroline Bingley, Glenn Close as Lady Catherine de Bourgh and Abela’s new Industry co-star Toheeb Jimoh as Mr Bingley.

Industry seasons 1-3 are available to watch on BBC iPlayer now. Pride and Prejudice is available to purchase and listen to now at www.audible.co.uk.

Sylvester Stallone as Dwight Manfredi and Jay Will as Tyson in the Paramount+ original series Tulsa King
TV & Streaming

Cast, Premiere Date, and More

by jummy84 September 17, 2025
written by jummy84

Tulsa King returns for its third season premiere on Sunday, September 21, and fans of the series can look forward to much, much more to come from the Taylor Sheridan-verse drama. In addition to greenlighting a spinoff, NOLA King, the streamer has also announced the renewal of Tulsa King for a fourth season.

So what do we know about Tulsa King Season 4 so far? Here’s a look at all the details available at this time.

When will Tulsa King Season 4 premiere?

A premiere date has not yet been announced for Tulsa King Season 4. However, fans can probably expect the series to continue enjoying a fall debut (Season 1 premiered in November 2022; Season 2 followed in September 2024; and Season 3, of course, arrives September 21).

Who will star in Tulsa King Season 4?

We will have to wait and see which of the main characters in Tulsa King survive what looks to be a dangerous Season 3, but fans can likely count on Sylvester Stallone to reprise his role as Dwight “The General” Manfredi.

Speaking to TV Insider about what’s ahead for the mafia-centric show, Stallone also told TV Insider, “Do we have new characters in [Season] 4? Oh, yes. You bet.”

The main cast for Season 3 includes Martin Starr as Lawrence “Bodhi” Geigerman, Jay Will as Tyson Mitchell, Garrett Hedlund as Mitch Keller, Dana Delaney as Margaret Devereaux, Annabella Sciorra as Joanne Manfredi, Neal McDonough as Cal Thresher, Frank Grillo as Bill Bevilaqua, Chris Caldovino as Dennis “Goodie” Carangi, McKenna Quigley Harrington as Grace, and Mike “Ca$h Flo” Walden as Bigfoot. Joining the cast for Season 3 are Samuel L. Jackson as Russell Lee Washington Jr., Robert Patrick as Jeremiah Dunmire, Beau Knapp as Cole Dunmire, Bella Heathcote as Cleo Montague, Kevin Pollak as Special Agent Musso, and James Russo as Ray Renzetti.

What will happen in Tulsa King Season 4?

The plot for Tulsa King Season 4 has not yet been announced, but the series generally centers on former mafioso member Dwight Manfredi’s adventures leading a ragtag crew in Tulsa after being sent away by the New York crime family he once served. As his budding empire expands, he begins to court trouble from all sides — turf wars, legal woes, and family dramas included.

Stallone also hinted to TV Insider that one thread of the action that will emerge in Season 3 will continue into Season 4. “You’ll come across him in this season, but it’s a matter of, he has to just eventually, eventually throw down and say, ‘I know you’re going to try to kill me. So we’re going to try to work this out, or one of us has got to go,’” he said, referring to Patrick’s character Jeremiah Dunmire. “That’s the theme, and it starts to play out through all 10 episodes. It continues into the next season.”
