Snooper: Worldwide Album Review | Pitchfork

by jummy84 October 13, 2025
written by jummy84

Considering the essential role that drum machines play in egg punk, it’s a bit of a shock that Snooper—arguably the genre’s biggest band right now—never used one until the end of last year. While swinging from one tour route to another, all while punching in at their day jobs, the Nashville five-piece suddenly found the beating heart of egg punk sitting in their lap. Singer Blair Tramel and guitarist Connor Cummins started writing songs synced to the hardline rhythms of a vintage Zoom MRT-3, drawn to the propulsive nature of an intentionally repetitive structure. Worldwide, the culmination of those brainstorm sessions, is expectedly jacked up and alert. It’s the beefy older brother to 2023’s slinky art-kid debut Super Snõõper, but Snooper’s unwieldy creativity bends its rigidity into moments of zany malleability.

As if powered by a metronome plugged into a high-voltage outlet, Snooper hit the ground running on Worldwide and never stop across its 28-minute runtime, turning into varsity sprinters with a cross-country runner’s endurance. From the descending, jittery melody in opener “Opt Out” to the gloomy ’80s bass casting a British new-wave shadow over “Worldwide,” each member of Snooper—Tramel, Cummins, guitarist Conner Sullivan, bassist Happy Haugen, and drummer Brad Barteau—vaults through a series of musical high-knees and shuttle lines. If their aerobic endorphins weren’t already infectious, Snooper kick it up a notch with electronics on “Star 69” and “Pom Pom.” “They made me the team captain/And told me, ‘Make it happen,’” Tramel chants during the latter. Her teammates fortify the pep rally: pulling guitar strings across the fretboard, splicing drum beats into lightening-fried stutters, layering dog barks like cymbal hits.

Snooper thrive when locking eyes with the listener and tapping their wristwatch. On “Company Call” and “On Line,” they add gloss to both re-recorded versions from last year’s split 7″ with Prison Affair, letting Haugen and Barteau steer with a thundering bassline and the accoutrements of a full drum kit determined to render the drum machine obsolete. There’s no Pro Tools trickery speeding up the tempo without altering the pitch; Snooper really are playing that fast, and they’ve got the bloody fingers to prove it. The album’s best sprint is an unlikely cover of the Beatles’ “Come Together.” Snooper smash their pointer finger on the fast forward button of a CD player, zipping through the Abbey Road single in highlight reel-style. The all-timer bassline waggles in Haugen’s hands like that old rubber pencil trick, the guitars wait on the sidelines for the riff-ready chorus, and sparse drums more than halve the original’s runtime. It’d be a perplexing cover if not for how well the imagery aligns with the papier-mâché puppets of Snooper’s concerts: juju eyeballs, holy roller getup, hair down to his knee (singular).

FKA Twigs reflects on "catastrophic" North American tour cancellation

FKA Twigs reflects on “catastrophic” North American tour cancellation

by jummy84 October 13, 2025
written by jummy84

FKA Twigs has reflected on the “catastrophic” fallout that followed the cancellation of her North American tour earlier this year.

  • READ MORE: FKA Twigs – ‘EUSEXUA’ review: a lust-fuelled insight into what it is to be human

Back in spring, Twigs took to social media to inform fans that a handful of upcoming shows in the United States and Canada were being scrapped due to visa issues, and later revealed that the “ongoing” visa problems meant the remainder of North American dates, including festival sets at Coachella and Axe Ceremonia, would be cancelled.

Reflecting on the situation, the British singer-songwriter recently told The Hollywood Reporter that scrapping the tour was financially “catastrophic” for her business, and marked “one of the most painful times” in her career.

“Just the emotional and physical and financial ramifications that fell on FKA Twigs the business was catastrophic. All I wanted to do was perform in front of my fans – go to Mexico and do Coachella and tour America. The creative on that show was brilliant. We worked so hard on it, and it all slipped through my fingers like sand.”

She went on to explain that the mistakes were not within her control and said she was “kept in the dark” about how bad the situation was because it wasn’t her remit.

“The flights and the visas and the stage advancing, none of it was done. And I don’t know how to do that because it’s not my job. But you know what? I’ve learned a lot,” she added. “Now I know about buses and freighting; how many days it takes to get from New York to Mexico in a truck; how to get through customs.”

After the tour fell through, Twigs went on to house nine of her dancers in her London home as they worked together to rework the show.

“My back was against the wall, and I came out kicking,” she said, adding: “We lived together and danced and trained and brought the show back to life. … I felt like I was weathering a storm and I turned something really horrific into something positive.”

Twigs went on to embark on a tour of Europe and the US between May and August, and is now confirmed to perform at Coachella next year.

Having brought ‘EUSEXUA’ to the capital with two headline shows at Magazine, her set scored a four-star review from NME, who said described it as a “typically artful performance”.

As for the record itself, NME gave ‘EUSEXUA’ a glowing five-star review, writing: “Twigs has successfully shown that the connection of music, movement, mind, soul and body can be converted into sound, weaving these elements into a cohesive and transcendent artistic experience.

The artist and NME Godlike Genius winner first announced the follow-up to her Mercury-nominated 2025 record ‘EUSEXUA’ back in August, with ‘EUSEXUA Afterglow’ set for release on November 14 via Atlantic/Young. You can pre-order/pre-save here.

Watch Dua Lipa Duet With Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong

by jummy84 October 13, 2025
written by jummy84

The pair performed “Wake Me Up When September Ends” as part of the pop singer’s
Radical Optimism tour over the weekend

Dua Lipa welcomed Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong to the stage at San Francisco’s Chase Center last night to perform the band’s 2004 hit “Wake Me When September Ends.”

“San Francisco, how you feeling?” Lipa told before bringing Armstrong on stage. “Every night we do a different surprise song by a local artist, and I immediately thought about San Francisco and all the incredible music that has come out of here. I thought about one band in particular… Join me in welcoming the incredible Billie Joe from Green Day!”

Last night marked the singer’s second show at Chase Center. On Saturday night, Oct. 11, she paid tribute to another Bay Area artist with a cover of “Piece of My Heart,” originally performed by Big Brother & the Holding Company with Janis Joplin.

Dua Lipa has regularly performed covers during her Radical Optimism tour, sometimes bringing the artists out on stage with her. Last week, she was joined on stage at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum by Gwen Stefani for a rendition of No Doubt classic “Don’t Speak.” “I wanted to dive into one of my personal heroes. One of my favorite artists, and who I grew up listening to my whole life,” Lipa told the crowd. “Someone who’s influenced my music, my style, someone who I love as a performer, and someone who constantly keeps redefining herself and music. I just absolutely love her.”

Trending Stories

She later told Rolling Stone, “I’ve loved Gwen my whole life. I’ve found her so inspiring. I’ve loved her music. I love her toughness. I love her voice. I love everything that she stood for. For me, it was a big childhood dream come true.”

There are two more shows left on Dua Lipa’s North American Radical Optimism run, both in Seattle. She will head to South America and Mexico through November and early December. Speaking to Rolling Stone, she confirmed she’s working with Mark Ronson on new music again, but declined to tease the era any further. “I love working with Mark,” she said. “I’m so inspired by him. We work really well together, so I’m really excited.”

UK Rapper Giggs Performs at Halftime for NFL Game in London

by jummy84 October 13, 2025
written by jummy84

The NFL has been spicing up its international games with halftime performers, a bit like mini-Super Bowls.

British rapper Giggs performed Sunday (Oct. 12) at halftime of the game between the New York Jets and Denver Broncos at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Broncos won 13-11.

“It’s a huge moment to be a part of the London Games,” Giggs said. “I’ve been on a journey with my music, and to get to share that with my city and the NFL fans is something I’m really proud of.”

The south London native’s 2007 single “Talkin’ da Hardest” remains a popular anthem among his fans. Cleveland Browns players unfamiliar with the song liked what they heard when it was played last week.

Giggs has done collaborations with artists including Drake, 21 Savage, Ed Sheeran and Dave.

Last week, British singer Raye performed a halftime show at Tottenham with a nearly seven-minute set that included her hit “Where is My Husband!” The Minnesota Vikings beat Cleveland 21-17 in the game.

British singer-songwriter Myles Smith was chosen to headline the halftime show at the first-ever regular-season NFL game in Ireland. At Croke Park, the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Vikings 24-21 two weeks ago.

Last month, Grammy award-winning Karol G performed in São Paulo, Brazil, when the Los Angeles Chargers beat the Kansas City Chiefs 27-21 at Corinthians Arena.

Bad Bunny will headline the Apple Music Super Bowl halftime show at Levi’s Stadium on Feb. 8 in Santa Clara, California.

The NFL has been on an aggressive international growth pattern, so expect more to come.

“Bringing the best in sports and entertainment is what the international games are all about,” said Tim Tubito, senior director of global game presentation and entertainment at the NFL.

You Can’t Compete With That

by jummy84 October 13, 2025
written by jummy84

If you needed further proof that the music industry rises and sets with Taylor Swift, just ask Robbie Williams. The UK pop legend recently revealed that he had to delay his latest album, Britpop, to avoid direct competition with all that is Swift-Mania.

“We’re all pretending [the scheduling change] is not about Taylor Swift, but it f**king is,” Williams said. “You can’t compete with that.”

The revelation (via Billboard) came during Williams’ Thursday evening set at London’s Dingwalls. The event was effectively two gigs: The evening began with an in-full performance of Williams’ seminal 1997 debut album, Life Thru A Lens, before switching to a preview of the singer’s upcoming 13th studio album. Reportedly this show had been scheduled to coincide with Britpop’s original release (October 10th) before that LP was pushed back due to an undefined series of “scheduling issues.”

Williams — who will now release Britpop on February 6th, 2026 — isn’t the first leading artist to experience the unbridled force of Swift-dom. Recently, fans online believed that Drake pushed back his long-awaited Iceman to avoid similar competition with Showgirl. Meanwhile, in October 2024, both Joe Jonas and Shawn Mendes reportedly delayed their albums to steer clear of the heft of Swift‘s reputation (Taylor’s Version). There were even rumblings on Reddit recently that Harry Styles might have pushed back his own album plans due to Swift’s latest.

Related Video

Now, admittedly, a lot of this is hearsay and rumors. But with Williams having the chutzpah to come right out and say it, it would make sense for most artists to be savvy enough with their plans when “competing” with Swift. Per Billboard, Showgirl has moved 3.4 million in “pure album sales” (that’s both physical and electronic), which is already the biggest single sales week since electronic tracking began in 1991. (That number will likely grow as data tracking firm Luminate won’t release the final first-week sales figures until Sunday, October 12th.) And Swift’s other albums have made her the fourth best-selling female artist in history, with a total of 251.8 million in equivalent album sales.

Still, it’s not all bad news for Williams. Billboard‘s review of Thursday’s show demonstrated that Britpop could be a career high, with the singer leaning into new ideas and influences (including a discernible electronic sheen and decidedly more raw approach) to make one of the most exciting and timely records of his otherwise long, prosperous career. And speaking of being prosperous, if Britpop does reach No. 1 on the UK charts next year, it’ll give Williams his 16th overall, smashing a tie held by The Beatles for that most lofty prize.

At this point, not even Taylor Swift herself could accomplish that goal. Right?

Jeezy Makes 5th Annual Sno Ball Gala Adorable Daddy-Daughter Date

Jeezy shared the red carpet at his 5th annual Sno Ball Gala with his toddler, Monaco Jenkins, on Thursday night (Oct. 9) in Atlanta. Jeezy and his ex-wife Jeannie Mai welcomed baby Monaco in 2022.

The father-daughter duo stepped out in their best threads for the rapper’s annual fundraising event, him in a suit while the 3-year-old served age-appropriate glam in a gold dress and matching tiara.

Taking place at the Delta Flight Museum, the upscale event hosted the likes of Lil Jon, T.I., Ludacris, and more. The gala is coordinated through Jeezy’s  Street Dreamz Foundation to raise funds for underserved communities.  According to the official website, the non-profit was launched in 2001 by the Soul Survivor performer to encourage a generation of at-risk youth to become effective leaders through programs that foster independence and respect for others, while educating and motivating each child to reach their ultimate potential in their area of interest.

Fans of the 48-year-old can soon see the rapper as he extended his Thug Motivation 101 Live anniversary tour with a Las Vegas residency. The first part takes on a masquerade theme and will take place on October 31 and November 1. The second edition will be Nutcracker-themed and occur on December 19 and 21.

“If you don’t call that Black excellence and leveling up, then I don’t know what is,” remarked Jeezy when the concert was announced.

Klein: sleep with a cane Album Review

Klein: sleep with a cane Album Review

by jummy84 October 13, 2025
written by jummy84

Klein used to work as a “logger” on a reality TV show, where she would record what cast members were doing in excruciating detail for use in B-roll shots. It’s a detail I can’t get out of my head, because not only is it hilarious, but there’s also something obsessive and mundane about it: Here’s one guy going to sleep, here’s another person starting an argument. In an interview with Pitchfork, Klein noted how easily TV can be manipulated by people willing to distort the narrative, as when her fellow loggers would exclude activities by certain actors to make them look bad.

Klein is the complete opposite. She puts everything out as it comes, raw and unfiltered. It’s obsessive and mundane in a different way, suffused with meaning even at its most impenetrable. After two albums of searing guitar noise, sleep with a cane feels like a retreat into the shroud of her earlier work. She finds solace, and intrigue, in the billowing folds of ambient music, but also in the sounds around her: her family, her house, the street. She’s her own logger, cataloguing moods and feelings with a comprehensiveness that would be exhausting if it weren’t so compelling.

In a quote to HotNewHipHop (she is signed to Roc Nation, after all), Klein calls sleep with a cane a “coming of age” release, and also a mixtape. It’s a mixtape in the sense that it’s not meant as a cohesive album, rather a grab bag of assorted goodies that amounts to “an epic ambient tape,” also her words. The irony is that in its patient, almost tender 91-minute sprawl, sleep with a cane is actually one of her more well-rounded and definitive releases. There is an epic scope to tracks like “it is what it is in d minor,” a 13-minute drone track based around a distant piano that sounds like an exploded version of her modern classical suite Harmattan.

‘Yellowjackets’ will end with season four

by jummy84 October 13, 2025
written by jummy84

Paramount+‘s hit survival thriller series Yellowjackets will be coming to an end with its next season.

The news was announced over the weekend via the show’s creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson. While a date for the show’s fourth season has yet to be announced, Lyle and Bart have confirmed that the next season will be its last.

They wrote in a statement posted on social media: “After three incredible seasons, and great consideration, we’re excited to announce that we will be bringing the story of Yellowjackets to its twisted conclusion in this fourth and final season. We’ve always known there would come a point when the story would tell us it wants to end, and it’s our belief that our job — our responsibility — is to listen.”

They continued: “Telling this emotional, wild, and deeply human story has been a profoundly meaningful experience and a true honour for us, and we’re so very grateful to the brilliant cast, crew and writers who have bravely gone on the journey with us to bring it to life. Most of all, we want to thank the fans who have stuck with us through every moment, mystery and meal — the Hive is nothing without you! We can’t wait to share the final chapter with you and hope you find it…delicious.”

Season four of Yellowjackets is expected to premiere sometime in 2026, with its writers room now open to pen the scripts for the final run of episodes.

The mystery thriller series follows a girls’ football team in 1996 who, while travelling to a tournament in Seattle, crash-land in the Canadian wilderness and are left stranded for 19 months. Between their attempts to survive, the show also jumps to their adult lives in the present day.

Season three of Yellowjackets – which earned high praise from critics when it premiered but surprised fans with a shock death in its season finale – starred Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress, Lauren Ambrose, Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Courtney Eaton, Liv Hewson and more. Elijah Wood appeared in a recurring role, while Hilary Swank, Joel McHale and Ashley Sutton appeared in guest roles.

Andrew Lloyd Webber Loved Lady Gaga's Mayhem Ball: 'World Superstar'

Andrew Lloyd Webber Loved Lady Gaga’s Mayhem Ball: ‘World Superstar’

by jummy84 October 13, 2025
written by jummy84

It’d be fair to call Andrew Lloyd Webber a Little Monster. On Saturday, the musical theater giant shared a video praising Lady Gaga‘s performance at the O2 Arena in London, calling it a “fabulous” live show, and celebrating a portion of a show reminiscent of Phantom of the Opera.

“I loved the Lady Gaga concert. It was really fabulous. She really knows how to handle an audience. And it was a great evening,” Webber said in a video posted to Instagram. “It was so wonderful, actually, to see somebody really singing live, rather than, as we know, some artists who are really miming to a pre-recorded track. And there was nothing of that.”

Webber celebrated Gaga’s references to opera at large, but also a particular poignant moment in the night when the singer emulates a scene in Phantom, during which she is rowed in a boat onstage while singing “Shallow.”

“I was really, really pleased to see an opera house on stage, and even more pleased to see a boat with her in it being rowed across the big auditorium, that is O2,” Webber said. “It reminded me of something that I might have had a little involvement with.”

He added: “I thought the concert was absolutely fabulous. And I think Lady Gaga is absolutely a world superstar.”

Gaga caught wind of Webber’s acknowledgment on TikTok, leaving a comment under his post, saying, “This is. adream come true.”

Gaga is currently on the European leg of her Mayhem Ball tour, and is scheduled to perform in Stockholm, Milan, and Barcelona through the end of this month. She’ll wrap the run’s first leg in Australia in December, before visiting Japan and returning stateside early next year.

Rolling Stone lauded Gaga’s tour opener in Las Vegas over the summer, calling her a “fearless storyteller” and describing the run a “legacy-defining” moment in her career.

JISOO & ZAYN’s ‘Eyes Closed’ Voted Favorite New Music This Week

“Eyes Closed,” the new single from JISOO and Zayn Malik, tops this week’s fan-voted music poll.

Music fans voted in a poll published Friday (Oct. 10) on Billboard, choosing the pair’s duet as their favorite new release.

“Eyes Closed” made its grand entrance during a week that also saw new releases from Khalid; Gorillaz feat. Trueno and Proof; Alemeda and Doechii; HAIM and Bon Iver and more.

Bringing together a pair of mega pop stars — a former member of One Direction plus one-fourth of BLACKPINK — “Eyes Closed” blends two recognizable voices in one emotional ballad. Fans of both both flooded in to vote in this week’s poll, and their support led the singers to a landslide victory.

“Time is standing still and I don’t wanna leave your lips/ Tracing my body with your fingertips,” JISOO begins on the track, to which Malik sings back, “I know what you’re feeling and I know you wanna say it/ I do too but we gotta be patient.”

“‘Cause someone like me/ And someone like you/ Really shouldn’t work, yeah, the history is proof/ Damned if I don’t/ Damned if I do,” they sing through a chorus about opening their hearts to new love. “Oh, we should fall in love with our eyes closed/ Better if we keep it where we don’t know/ The beds we’ve been in/ The names and the faces of who we were with.”

Among the new releases trailing behind “Eyes Closed” on the poll: Khalid’s After the Sun Goes Down, Gorillaz featuring Trueno and Proof’s “The Manifesto,” Alemeda and Doechii’s “Beat a B!tch Up,” HAIM and Bon Iver’s “Tie You Down” and A Boogie Wit da Hoodie’s “Part of Me.”
