Today is Friday, which means there are a ton of new releases to look forward to from some of your favorite Hip-Hop artists. To help you unwind and enjoy the weekend, check out VIBE’s picks of songs and albums you should hear and add to your soundtrack of weekend festivities.

  • Offset – ‘KIARI’

If there were any questions about Offset’s ability to put together a strong, full-length solo album, KIARI puts them all to rest. In the past, his offerings have been bloated and a bit directionless, but this in-depth personal look at his life post-divorce has yielded some of his best solo music in his career.

There is turnup galore, but it is records like “Prada Myself” with Teezo Touchdown, “Enemies,” and “Move On” that shine the brightest. He catered to the women with “Love You Down” and “All Of My Hoes,” and paid homage to Takeoff on “Never Let Go” powered by a soulful John Legend hook.

It is every side of the Atlanta rapper that fans grew to love over the last decade, and a sign that he is as fortified as ever by himself. – Armon Sadler

  • Ghostface Killah – ‘Supreme Clientele 2’

As part of Mass Appeal’s Legend Has It campaign, Supreme Clientele 2 arrives with heavy expectations—and while it doesn’t eclipse the original, it stands tall as one of the week’s strongest releases.

Ghostface crafts a worthy follow-up soaked in classic Shaolin grit and vivid storytelling. With appearances from Nas, Raekwon, Method Man, and production from Sean C & LV, 4th Disciple, and more, tracks like “Sample 420,” “Curtis May,” “Love Me,” and “The Trial” prove GFK hasn’t lost his touch.

This isn’t nostalgia—it’s a reminder of why his name still rings bells. – Preezy Brown

  • BigXthaPlug – ‘I Hope That You’re Happy’

BigXthaPlug levels up with I Hope You’re Happy, an 11-track genre-blending statement that bridges gritty Southern rap with country soul in a way that feels bold, fresh, and entirely his own.

Featuring standout collaborations with Darius Rucker on the heartfelt title track, Jelly Roll on the raucous “Box Me Up,” and Luke Combs on the introspective “Pray Hard,” the album effortlessly shifts between raw emotion and swagger.

It’s a testament to BigX’s versatility and vision, and a successful crossover moment that’s sure to intrigue longtime fans and new listeners alike. – PB

  • Doja Cat – “Jealous Type”

Doja Cat keeps the momentum sky-high with “Jealous Type,” a slick, moody single produced by Jack Antonoff and Y2K that effortlessly blends her signature bite with pop polish.

First teased in her Marc Jacobs Summer ’25 campaign, the track doubles as a stylish preview of Vie, her upcoming fifth studio album dropping September 26th.

With a glossy LA-set video directed by Boni Mata and her massive Ma Vie World Tour on the horizon, “Jealous Type” only amplifies the anticipation—Doja’s next era is shaping up to be her boldest yet. – PB

Lupe Fiasco refuses to let the heat die down with Samurai DX, a sharp, five-track refresh of his stellar 2024 album Samurai.

Breathing new life into highlights like “Samurai,” “Palaces,” and “Bigfoot” with remixes—and adding fresh sparks with “High Note” featuring Luv Moore and a Troy Tyler-assisted “Bigfoot”—the Chicago wordsmith proves his pen remains as precise as ever.

With Side B offering instrumentals on vinyl, Samurai DX isn’t just a companion piece—it’s a reimagined victory lap that fans of lyricism and innovation will devour. – PB

  • Flo Milli Featuring Coop – “Perfect Person”

Flo Milli excels at energetic trap bops and slow sensual ballads, but “Perfect Person” featuring Coop displays her continual evolution as an artist.

This one is for the booty shakers, though there are slower dance breaks that lean more toward pop or alternative music. All of these elements come together for an anthem reflecting on the difficulties in love. No, we aren’t perfect, but we can be worth it.

They get their flexes off too, reveling in the fact men can’t leave them alone. It’s good to hear more from Flo, and hopefully an LP is on the way over the next year. – AS

  • Joey Bada$$ – “Dark Aura”

Joey Bada$$ “Dark Aura” cover artJoey Bada$$ “Dark Aura” cover art
Image Credit: 2025 Columbia Records, a Division of Sony Music Entertainment, under exclusive license from Pro Era / Cinematic Music Group

Joey Bada$$ “Dark Aura” perfectly encapsulates the year that he has had, though it contrasts the bright star he has become.

This record is just shy of three minutes, yet loaded with lush, polished production and animated bars. He has truly been rapping like the rent is due and he needs to win a talent show to get the money.

Of course, he is a veteran and been doing this for a while, but something about 2025 feels like he is on his best run ever. That’s the beauty of rap; the people who commit to the craft and have something to work toward get better. – AS

  • French Montana & Cash Cobain – “Pack U Up”

Who could have predicted they would hear French Montana and Cash Cobain on a flip of Pete Rock and CL Smooth’s “T.R.O.Y.”?

Expect the unexpected with these two, and “Pack U Up” is the quintessential energy needed as the “summer” winds down. Their chemistry is seamless, and this intergenerational linkup blends two artists who crafted sounds catered to women.

Hip-Hop lately is trying to revert to having fun and activating the ladies, and it is much needed. “Pack U Up” has the bounce, bop, lines, and perfect artists to do so. It is a loaded release weekend, but this track is a standout. – AS

  • Chef Boy, E-40 – “Show Out”

Chef Boy and E-40’s “Show Out” feels like 2025’s version of “Tell Me When To Go” in all of the best ways. It is a bass-heavy, car-rattling, hyphy anthem.

Chef Boy ascends, and E-40 reminds us that there is no West Coast without the E. Of course, that region has been on a tear for the last year, but it has primarily been one guy and one sound.

It is refreshing to hear this sound have a resurgence and E-40 remind people he is just as capable as ever of making a strong record. “Show Out” is a mantra and a lifestyle. – AS

Susumu Yokota: Skintone Edition Volume 1 Album Review

by jummy84 August 23, 2025
written by jummy84

Inspired by a visit to Yakushima Island’s Unsuikyo Ravine—the inspiration for Hayao Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke and home to the Jomon Sugi, a cedar tree estimated to be as many as 7,000 years old—The Boy and the Tree is part forest bathing, part plunderphonic immersion in Yokota’s record collection. Its 12 deeply psychedelic tracks fold together birdsong, chanting, raga, gamelan, flute, marimba, zither, revving motorcycles, and hand percussion. The ambient tracks take shape like drops of ink spreading through water; the rhythmic ones eschew conventional drum programming for scraps of percussion and stringed instruments from around the world, weaving them into pulsing throughlines that bring order to the gentle chaos of his flyaway sounds.

If The Boy and the Tree is Yokota at his most satisfyingly complex, 2003’s Laputa shows him at his most bewildering. The album’s 15 tracks—some just a minute or two long, and none reaching five—unfold like dreams, or landscapes blurring past the window of a speeding train. Even the best ambient music can be difficult to recall in detail once it has finished playing, but in the case of Laputa, you may have difficulty remembering how a given track even began. “Rising Sun” is a swirl of birdsong, drones, cowboy guitar, ring-modulated gurgling, and what sounds like a scrap of operatic aria lifted from a scratchy 78; “Gong Gong Gong” collages together gongs, pedal steel, and nonsensical spoken-word; “Lost Ring” superimposes ECM-grade ambience with Blade Runner-esque noir saxophone and, briefly and bizarrely, a perky splash of bluesy Hammond organ. The mood throughout is sometimes beatific, sometimes druggily disturbing. I’m frequently reminded of Philip Jeck’s slowed-down vinyl excavations; a ghostly quality hangs over every track and every sample, as though Yokota were seeking to contact spirits. The spectral “Trip Eden”—a liquid soundscape of moaning voices and shivery close harmonies—might be the most harrowing thing he ever recorded.

Seven albums can be a lot to absorb from any artist; all the more so when they entail such jarring shifts in mood—like Will—or require such focused, emotionally engaged listening, like Laputa. But Yokota benefits from the box-set treatment. To immerse yourself in his work is to be reminded of its uncommon depth, and to realize how intricately it’s all connected. The abject mourning of “Trip Eden,” the insouciance of “King Dragonfly,” the bliss of “Hagoromo”—they are all facets of Yokota’s pursuit of a totalizing picture of human emotion. In the original liner notes to Image 1983 – 1998, Yokota looked back on his years obsessed with dance music with alarm and regret. “My life became techno,” he wrote. “From morning until evening, rhythms were repetitively ticked off while sleeping, and fractal images were the only reflection I saw…. I was slipping into the memories of the future. After awakening from this mind-control, I started to seek and get inspiration from reality and everyday life; the food I eat, cats from my neighbourhood, and most of all, how I live.” These seven albums make clear how profoundly Yokota was able to translate his quotidian reality to tape, resulting in some of the most original and idiosyncratic ambient music of its era. Skintone Edition Volume 1 is a moving portrait of a life lived in sound.

Hozier speaks out for Palestine Action, Kneecap, free speech and equality during Reading 2025 headline set

by jummy84 August 23, 2025
written by jummy84

Hozier used his set at Reading Festival 2025 to speak out in support of Palestine Action, Kneecap, free speech and equality.

  • READ MORE: Reading & Leeds 2025 liveblog: Check out the action as it happens

The Irish musician performed on the main stage last night (August 22), and gave an impassioned speech, which began by referencing artists with an “instinct to tell the truth in their music”, listing Nina Simone, Woody Guthrie, Joan Baez and Ewan MacColl.

He then spotlighted Mavis Staples and her family, The Staples Singers, who “used to sing before speeches during the American Civil Rights movement that took place in the 1960s.”

Hozier went on to say that he was particularly interested in the civil rights movement “as an Irishman coming from Ireland”, as it directly inspired the Northern Irish civil rights movement, which challenged the inequality and discrimination against ethnic Irish Catholics, many of whom were unable to vote.

“That right to vote, that we have, that democratic voice, that we have, like so many rights that we enjoy every single day, without even thinking about – rights of free Speech, workers rights, union rights, gay rights, women’s reproductive rights – it’s so easy to take these things for granted,” Hozier continued. “And it’s so easy to forget how much work had to go into these things existing for everybody, how they had to be fought for, how they had to be worked for.”

He went on to say: “As we’ve been traveling over these last nearly two years, I’ve been inviting people to use their rights of free speech, use their democratic voices, use their purchasing power, whatever it is that they can do, to support a meaningful political solution for the kind of violence we’ve been seeing on our TV screens over the last two years, and not lip service, but a meaningful peace process, a meaningful political investment that would bring about peace and safety and security for everybody in that region.”

— ִֶָ (@saintscain) August 23, 2025

“Reading, at the core of it, I don’t think it’s complicated,” he continued. “I think people want to see human beings live in peace and safety, and security. I think that people would want to see that for their neighbours. They would want to see that for members of their community. I believe that people would want to see people they don’t know live with peace and safety, and security. Am I right?

“They wouldn’t want to see their neighbours live in fear of hatred or racism,” he added. “Wouldn’t want to see their Jewish friends live in the fear of anti-Semitism, and Muslim brothers and sisters live in the fear of Islamophobia. They want to see their members of the LGBTQ community treated with respect and dignity, and peace.”

The musician continued: “Safety and security for everybody in the Middle East means seeing a Palestine that’s free from occupation, that’s free from these cycles of genocide and violence, and it means seeing a Palestine that’s free to move towards meaningful self-determination and statehood.”

His comments come amid yesterday’s news (August 22) that famine is taking place in Gaza, which was confirmed in a report by The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), backed by the United Nations. The report acknowledged that the situation is “entirely man-made”, and aid organisations are also accusing Israel of the “systematic obstruction” of food entering the Gaza Strip.

Since Hamas’ attack on Israeli citizens on October 7, 2023 that killed over 1100 people and saw 250 taken as hostages, multiple UN human-rights experts and UN bodies have stated that Israel’s military actions in Gaza may amount to genocide, and the International Court of Justice has found claims of genocide plausible.

According to the Gaza Health Ministry, at least 62,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023. Israel rejects the genocide accusations and denies committing any war crimes, maintaining that its operations are lawful acts of self-defence.

“I know I don’t need to tell you that spray painting an aeroplane does not constitute an act of terrorism, or supporting the people who do does not constitute an act of terrorism. I know you know that,” Hozier continued.

His comments are in reference to Palestine Action, a direct action organisation that has been proscribed as a terrorist group by the UK government.

The group’s proscription under the Terrorism Act 2000 means membership or public support for the group is classified as a criminal offence and could result in up to 14 years in jail. Earlier this month, over 500 people were arrested at a huge protest in central London that featured widespread support of the group, per The Guardian.

— Portal Hozier Brasil (@PortalHozierBr) August 22, 2025

“Or indeed,” he continued, “Irish musicians rapping or supporting the people of Palestine is not an act of terrorism either,” specifically shouting out Kneecap’s and member DJ Próvai.

It comes as the group’s Mo Chara is currently facing terrorism charges levelled against him in May for allegedly displaying a Hezbollah flag onstage at a London show last November. Chara appeared in court on Wednesday (August 20), where the case was adjourned until next month.

Kneecap have consistently denied supporting either Hamas or Hezbollah, and said that they do not incite or condone violence. They have also argued that the footage at the UK shows had been taken out of context, and described the legal action as a “carnival of distraction”.

Hozier concluded, saying: “Use your voice, use your kind power, use your vote in any way from that place of empathy and compassion to support peace and safety and security and free policy.”

Fans have criticised the fact that his performance was not livestreamed on BBC iPlayer and, at time of writing, has not yet been uploaded to the website.

It follows the BBC saying that it will no longer be broadcasting any performances it thinks may be “high risk” in the future, after they were criticised for livestreaming Bob Vylan’s set at Glastonbury 2025, which saw them lead chants of “Death to the IDF”.

Suspect Julio Cesar Lopez Zavala Arrested

by jummy84 August 23, 2025
written by jummy84

Police detained 23-year-old Julio Cesar Lopez Zavala after video appeared to show him allegedly punching a woman in the crowd at the Rose Bowl

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting fellow concertgoers during a Rüfüs Du Sol show at the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles over the weekend, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The suspect was identified as Julio Cesar Lopez Zavala. Police say that video footage of the assault, as well as tips from the public, helped them identify Zavala, who was taken into custody Thursday, Aug. 21. His case has been sent to the L.A. County District Attorney’s office for review before formal charges are filed.

In a statement, the Pasadena Police Department said that their investigation “revealed that three victims were assaulted to varying degrees.” They added that the suspect “reportedly became agitated after a drink was spilled.”

Video of the assault went viral after it was shared on the popular Instagram account, The Festive Owl. The clip showed a man repeatedly punching someone, while others tried to hold him back and call for help. Splatters of blood could also be seen on the Rose Bowl bleachers.

Trending Stories

One of the fans involved, Shelby, shared a statement with the Festive Owl, saying that she accidentally spilled a drink on a man who later “punched me in the face, knocking me out and causing significant bleeding, while he continued attacking our group. Another friend tried to protect us, but the attacker fled into the crowd.”

Rüfüs Du Sol issued a statement as well, saying, “Delivering moments to our fans to gather and celebrate safely is what we live for. We have been heart broken to hear of the act of violence that took place during the opening act on Saturday. This type of behavior is completely unacceptable anywhere, and the fact that this happened at one of our shows was devastating to learn about.”

Best Moments From NYC Night One

The pop icon kicked off a string of six dates at the Madison Square Garden on Friday night (Aug. 22).

Lady Gaga performs at Copacabana Beach on May 3, 2025 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Dorothy Gale famously said that “there’s no place like home.” But Lady Gaga put it a bit more succinctly on Friday (Aug. 22) night: “I’M HOME, NEW YORK CITY!!“

Mother Monster touched down in New York City on Friday for her first live performance there in just over three years since she took MetLife Stadium by storm with The Chromatica Ball in 2022. But arguably more important was the setting. For the first time in more than 10 years, Gaga returned with a vengeance to Madison Square Garden — the site of previous tours like the Monster Ball and ArtRave — for the first of six shows she’s set to play as part of her globe-spanning new tour The Mayhem Ball.

For just over two hours, Gaga kept her fans’ energy high as she powered through a masterful set of world-dominating hits, beloved B-sides and a plethora of her latest songs off of March’s Mayhem, all while delivering a high concept, artfully-crafted live show that embraced the chaos and theatricality of live performance.

Gaga even gave fans at the show a surprise performance of “Hair,” her beloved Born This Way B-side as a special treat for the fans in her hometown. “New York, you made me a star, you raised me,” she told the screaming crowd at MSG. “Thank you so much for always believing in me — it’s good to be back home.”

Below, Billboard takes a look back at the seven best moments from Gaga’s first show back home at Madison Square Garden for The Mayhem Ball.

  • A Night at the Opera

Gaga has never been shy about her love of larger-than-life performance art, and The Mayhem Ball is not an exception. In fact, among all of Gaga’s globe-trotting tours, this one likely is the most interested in the artifice of the show itself — along with giving you an opportunity to watch Mother Monster perform the hits live, you’re getting a story alongside it.

That story, much like the album this tour was inspired by, sees Stefani Germanotta in a soul-wrenching battle with the monster of her own creation, Lady Gaga. Throughout the different acts of this rock opera (the gothic proscenium adorning the stage, along with the bits of scripted dialogue Gaga recites in between, give The Mayhem Ball the vibe of an actual narrative musical), different sides win out. But in the end, the two sides of Gaga fuse into one glorious whole as she finds the beauty in her own personal chaos.

  • Justice for ‘Artpop’

While Gagachella was heralded by everyone as an all-time great performance at the annual festival, some Little Monsters were left wanting when Gaga did not perform any of the tracks off her weird and wild 2013 album Artpop. But those fans will be delighted to know that Gaga heard their protests and added two Artpop tracks to the setlist for The Mayhem Ball.

First, Gaga lit up the Garden with a truncated performance of Artpop opener “Aura,” immediately prompting fans to squeal along with her as she raved that “Enigma popstar is fun, she wear burqa for fashion.” But one of the most energetic reactions from the crowd on Friday night came when Gaga launched into a high-energy rendition of “Applause,” as the entire arena screamed the lyrics along with her.

  • The (Big) Apple of Her Eye

While Gaga remained largely on-script for most of the show, she could not hold back the tears. After giving a heartfelt rendition of her smash-hit “Die With a Smile,” a stunned Gaga looked into the crowd as her fans cheered her on, before launching into a heartfelt speech about what it meant for her to finally be back in her hometown.

“I know that it’s me standing up here, but you’re all standing in here with me, you know what I’m saying? I feel so honored to be here tonight at Madison Square Garden,” Gaga said, while fans held up signs, including one that welcomed the “Italian girl from New York” back home. “I’m sure you can tell if you listen to the music that I am from here. Everything about my artistry, I think, was born in this town.”

The pop superstar also shared a vulnerable story with fans about a conversation she had backstage with her backup dancer China Taylor, where she said that she felt like she needed to fight through her first performance at MSG. “When I’m in New York, I fight,” Gaga said. “But she said something really special to me. She said, ‘Sometimes, you don’t have to fight, you just have to show up.’” And show up Gaga did.

  • A ‘Hair’-Raising Performance

To go along with her moving speech to the crowd, Gaga also revealed that she had “prepared something special” for the audience at MSG on Friday. For the first time since her Born This Way Ball wrapped in 2013, Gaga gave a stirring rendition of “Hair,” her anthem of self-empowerment off her 2011 album Born This Way. “I’m sure that all of my albums could not have been made without New York, but I am sure this album would not have been made without New York,” a tearful Gaga declared. “This is for all of you, and all your dreams; for maybe sometimes, no more fighting, and just showing up.”

Sat at an upright piano at the end of a catwalk, Gaga led the crowd in a choral-like chant of the song, as she offered up the song’s central “prayer,” promising that she and by extension her audience would “die living just as free as my hair.”

  • The ‘Mayhem’ of It All

While other albums like The Fame and Born This Way were given their proper shine throughout the evening, this was The Mayhem Ball after all — the songs of Mayhem provided the central backbone for the evening’s performance. Kicking off the show with a rousing rendition of “Abracadabra,” Gaga weaved her way through almost every song on the album (only “Don’t Call Tonight” and “Blade of Grass” didn’t make appearances during the evening).

There were a number of standouts among the crowded field of Mayhem tracks. Her gothic, high-camp performance of “Killah” saw the audience join her in a deeply cathartic scream; both “Perfect Celebrity” and “Disease” saw Gaga thrashing around a sandbox onstage; and after running through “Garden of Eden” early in the show, Gaga looked shocked as the audience gave her a minutes-long standing ovation for her unwavering commitment to the performance.

  • Putting the Queer Community on ‘the Right Track’

In the nearly two decades that she’s been making music, Gaga has never been one to be shy about her unapologetic love for the LGBTQ+ community — and that certainly did not stop on Friday night. Gaga spent the show giving nods, but subtle and overt, to the people who helped make her the superstar that she is.

Sometimes, that meant ceding the stage to ballroom dancers, who cut up the catwalk in between Acts I and II. Other times, it saw Gaga engaging in some not-so-subtle symbolism, as her gigantic flowing train lit up with the colors of the rainbow during her excellent rendition of “Paparazzi.” But of course, Gaga had to make sure that the crowd knew exactly what she was trying to say; before launching into a rousing rendition of “Born This Way,” Gaga made her point clear. “We are here for the queer community, do you hear me?” Gaga yelled into the crowd. “This show was made with love for you, because we need the world to love right now.”

  • And the Crowd Goes Wild

While Gaga was undoubtedly the star of her own show, you could not help but feel the presence of her biggest fans in the crowd that evening. Little Monsters stalked the halls of MSG dressed in their best Gaga drag, ranging from simple, Mayhem-inspired looks, to full-blown recreations of the characters from Gaga’s “Abracadabra” video.

For her part, Gaga made sure the fans felt the love on Friday night, too. Along with giving the crowd a new addition to the setlist and a heartfelt speech, Gaga also spent the entirety of “Vanish Into You” performing an impromptu meet-and-greet with fans on the floor. As she walked by her cheering crowd, Gaga stopped to sign vinyls and posters, accepted flowers, blew kisses and even put on a red track jacket handed to her by one of her admirers. As she walked up the catwalk, the whole stadium got to see the loving message embroidered on the back of Gaga’s new coat: “Monsters Never Die.”

Florence + the Machine’s “Everybody Scream” Is Our Song of the Week

by jummy84 August 23, 2025
written by jummy84

Each week, our Songs of the Week column highlights the best new tracks from the last seven days. Find our new favorites on our Top Songs playlist, and for more great songs from emerging artists, listen to our New Sounds playlist. This week, Florence + the Machine returns with the wild, cathartic title track to her upcoming album Everybody Scream.

Watching her onstage, you’d think Florence Welch has no problem giving her body to performance. As Florence + the Machine’s primary conduit, Welch aches and bellows during their now-arena-sized shows. She shuffles across the stage, barefoot, at a pace so quick you might worry she’ll trip over some stage wiring. She dances with pure abandon; she thrashes across songs like “Spectrum” and “My Love” with the force and intensity of a personal moshpit. Sure, she broke her foot 10 years ago for going a little too hard on Coachella’s main stage, but can you really blame her for acting on these theatrical impulses?

On “Everybody Scream,” the first song and title track off her forthcoming new album, Welch interrogates the physical and emotional cost of such abandon. In fact, it’s almost surprising to hear her paint these moments of performance with such dark intensity. On “Free,” a highlight from her last album Dance Fever, Welch summed up the transcendent power of her own act with a simple confession: “And for a moment, when I’m dancing, I am free.”

It turns out that moment was a bit more fleeting than she’d hoped. In 2023, Welch underwent life-saving emergency surgery, which led to the cancellation of several Florence + the Machine shows and forced her to reckon with her body’s own limits. It was her journey toward recovery and healing that fueled Everybody Scream, but what immediately sticks out about its title track is its relationship between ecstasy and agony, the Jekyll and Hyde-esque possession that holds Welch captive before it sets her free.

“Look at me run myself ragged, blood on the stage/ But how can I leave you when you’re screaming my name?,” she asks in the first chorus, a reference to the physical toil of her shows being counterbalanced by the intense adoration of her audience. She can’t live without the stage — “Here, I can take up the whole of the sky/ Unfurling, becoming my full size,” she sings — but through its darkened lens and the horror-induced screams conjured, Welch also seems to acknowledge the very real possibility that she can’t live with it, either.

Fittingly, Welch helmed the song with two artists who have a lot to say about the strange dissonance and intangible allure of performance: Mitski and IDLES’ Mark Bowen. Though the song is miles away from Mitski’s current mode, she knows a thing or two about the cost and sacrifice demanded from a career in music, specifically from women in her field and from serving as a canvas onto which her fans project their knottiest emotions. As for Bowen, he’s proven in his work with IDLES that love songs can sound horrifying, that even our most joyous and uninhibited emotions can be infiltrated by searing doubt in the blink of an eye.

These co-writers, along with the ever-dynamic James Ford and Aaron Dessner behind the boards, help Florence + the Machine achieve their most intriguing, risky lead single yet. It’s maybe not the most accessible entry point for this new era, but when Welch commands, “Everybody Scream!,” it’s hard to resist.

646yf4t — “i get it”

Canadian singer-songwriter and producer 646yf4t, pronounced Babyfat, is focused on one thing and one thing only: expansion. His new EP Growing Pains brims with a wide variety of sounds and genres, from dusky alt-R&B to glimmering pop to rough-hewn indie rock. Tucked near the top of the project is “i get it,” a slow-burner that thumps as much as it ticks, bumps, and grooves. Ostensibly, the song sounds like an acknowledgement of a failed relationship, but further inspection of the lyrics points toward another interpretation: faith. “Rain or shine, you clearing up my mind/ My third eye cries ’cause I see the silver lining/ Finally, finally, finally I know who I wanna be.” You can sense the vulnerability as 646yf4t repeatedly sings “I get it, I get it,” his vocals soaring as he processes life’s main lesson — in order to experience the highs of growth, we first have to feel the depths of change. — Kiana Fitzgerald

bloodsports — “Calvin”

Though it’s less than two minutes in length, bloodsports’ newest tune, “Calvin,” packs a heck of a punch. A shoegaze-adjacent ripper that’s just as melodic as it is rockin’, the single walks the line between energetic garage rock and dejected slacker rock, with an amped-up instrumental and ‘I’m so over this’ style vocals. It’s one of the best, most immediate tunes to come from the New York act yet. — Jonah Krueger

Flo Milli — “Perfect Person” featuring Coop

Since 2018’s “Beef FloMix,” Flo Milli has established herself as hip-hop’s bratty Alabama princess who makes crystalline hood bops. “Perfect Person” is the latest addition to her canon of prissy, candy-coated darts. Over a generous sample of Hoobastank’s 2003 mega-single “The Reason,” Flo Milli and her featured guest Coop admit: “I ain’t perfect, but he know I’m worth it/ Break his heart, do him bad, he deserve it.” Their interweaved verses project the importance of female empowerment, autonomy, and self-care — all through the lens of a Gen-Z rap girlie. — K. Fitzgerald

Good Flying Birds — “Fall Away”

Looking for some sweet-and-sour jangle pop to ring in the end of summer? Look no further than Good Flying Birds’ latest track “Fall Away,” a sublime slice of guitar-forward indie that moves at a runaway pace. The song features Wishy’s Nina Pitchkites and Kevin Krauter, serving a perfect compliment to Wishy’s unpredictable, sidewinding pop vision; though “Fall Away” also boasts a scrappy quality that’s equally endearing as it is rousing. With their upcoming project Talulah’s Tape coming on October 17th, Good Flying Birds have taken flight. — P. Ragusa

Purity Ring — “imanocean”

If you told me 12 years ago I’d hear a Purity Ring song with warm guitar and crisp, acoustic drums, I wouldn’t have believed you. But on “imanocean,” the duo embrace a clever tension between organic instrumentation and the otherworldly synths that rest upon it. It’s a bold reinvention, sure, but it also carries the various hallmarks they’ve championed over the years: melodies that ring out like sirens, an atmosphere as thick as fog, and emotions as wide as an ocean. After so much time, Purity Ring still wield the capacity to make music that sounds eerily familiar and gloriously unknown. — P. Ragusa

Shallowater — “Sadie”

Texas slowcore act Shallowater, one of our artists to watch in 2025, are officially following up their great 2024 debut There Is a Well. The new LP is called God’s Gonna Give You a Million Dollars (great name), and this week they’ve dropped the record’s second single, “Sadie.” The tune is a beautiful slow burn that spends its seven-and-a-half-minute runtime building to a mid-song, cacophonous explosion before settling back into its blissful status quo. If the record is half as good as the two tunes we’ve heard thus far, fans are in for a treat. — J. Krueger

Honey Bxby Talks ‘Raw Honey’ EP And Lil Kim Collaboration

by jummy84 August 23, 2025

Honey Bxby is ready to make her mark in the world of R&B. Hailing from New Jersey, the singer takes personal experiences and emotions and channels them into ballads and bops for fans to dance to, sing along with, and overall relate to.

This summer, Honey Bxby was able to sow the fruits of her labor. Since 2019, she has been steadily writing, rehearsing, and releasing music; all of which have prepared her for big collaborations, a bigger platform, new stages, and a refreshing era of her career.

Fresh off the release of her Raw Honey EP in May and a tour with SAINt JHN, Honey Bxby made her way to the rest of the world. At the BET Awards 2025 Pre-Show in June, she and Lil Kim made their debut performance of “Left Eye” remix, Honey Bxby’s standout track, which samples Mobb Deep’s “Quiet Storm.”

“I was definitely really nervous. I was shaking. My hands were like, ‘Oh, my God!’ Because it was my first time just doing something like that,” Honey Bxby told VIBE the following morning. “Looking back at it, it looks really good. I definitely worked really hard for that performance, and I’m definitely proud of the outcome.”

Preparation was key for her career-defining moment.

“I detoxed. I cut off alcohol,” she explained. “I have really long rehearsals. Just to have muscle memory, because I don’t do choreo, for real. That was my first time doing choreo like that, especially on-camera. I was resting as much as possible because I had a really long week. I was working a lot. I tried to make sure that I rested as much as I could so that when the time came, I wasn’t exhausted.”

Summer only heated up from there. Since then, the rising talent has been named the BET Amplified Artist for July, took the stage at the 2025 ESSENCE Festival, performed at the Rise Up NYC concert series, and more. For Honey Bxby, it’s all part of the plan.

The songwriter promised fans, “The best music possible,” up next. I’m coming for the number one spot, just for you guys.”

Shopping Break Up, Share Video for Final Single “White Noise”: Watch

by jummy84 August 23, 2025
written by jummy84

Shopping have broken up. The UK post-punk trio hadn’t put out an album since 2020’s All or Nothing, but confirmed the news on Instagram last week. “After 13 years, Shopping is taking our last spin through the aisles,” the band wrote in a post on Friday, August 15. Today, they’ve also shared the new song “White Noise,” billed as their final single, with an accompanying video. Watch it below.

Formed in London, England in 2012, Shopping drew heavily from the classic post-punk of Mo-Dettes, Gang of Four, and Delta 5. The trio of guitarist Ray Aggs, bassist Billy Easter, and drummer Andrew Milk—all former members of the band Covergirl—first gained notoriety when their 2013 debut album, Consumer Complaints, was reissued by FatCat Records in 2015.

Though they repeatedly insisted that they were more interested in making people dance than offering political commentary, Shopping became known for their portrayals of queer alienation under capitalism. They shared the album Why Choose in 2015 and, in 2018, released The Official Body, which boasted a fuller sound and helped the band to reach international touring act status. Pitchfork named both The Official Body and All or Nothing as among the best rock albums of their respective years.

“This song and video are full of incredible memories, all made possible by the love and support of our fans,” Shopping wrote of “White Noise” on Instagram. “You’ve taken us far and wide on so many adventures, and we’re truly thankful for every single moment. It’s bittersweet, but mostly we feel grateful for you, our community, and for all the joy and noise we’ve made together. See you tomorrow 🫶”

Today’s Wordle answer and hints for #1526 on August 23

written by jummy84

Wordle may be several years old, but the wildly popular word game has managed to keep players hooked on their phone screens since 2021.

It’s for good reason that the game’s popularity hasn’t dwindled: it’s free to play and boasts a simple concept for a fun and engaging puzzle game that doesn’t take too much time. To play, you’re given six tries to work out each day’s answer, with each try providing another hint until you solve (or guess) your way into getting the right answer.

Even if you’ve been playing daily since launch, Wordle stumps the best of us every so often. Some answers are easier than others, and some might even be words you might not have ever heard of (cough, cough… WOOER).

But we’re here to assure you that there’s no shame in needing a little hint every now and then. Don’t worry, we’ll try to give you clues without giving away too much of the answer.

Here’s the Wordle answer for today:

Wordle hint and clues for today (#1526, August 23)

Similar games to Wordle

If you find yourself struggling to land each answer every day, good news: there’s plenty of other similar games that can test your knowledge in other areas. The success of Wordle has meant that everyone has tried their hand at making similar games – even Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo chipped in to launch Weezle, which predictably tasks players with working out a lyric from the band’s songs each day.

If Weezer‘s not the band for you, there’s always Taylordle – which is the same game, except with Taylor Swift lyrics.

Beyond that, there’s also a battle royale, a dungeon crawler, and one that tests your knowledge of geography – so there’s plenty to choose from at the moment. There’s even a NSFW version for adults-only!

Wordle is available for free on PC and mobile.
