Jimmy Kimmel to Return to ABC on Tuesday

by jummy84 September 22, 2025
written by jummy84

Jimmy Kimmel Live! will return to ABC television airwaves on Tuesday, The Walt Disney Company has announced.

“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country,” ABC’s parent company, The Walt Disney Company, said in a statement Monday. “It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”

Jimmy Kimmel Live! was initially pulled off the air last Wednesday following a series of dramatic developments stemming from comments Kimmel made about Charlie Kirk’s murder during his monologues earlier in the week. In response, Donald Trump’s FCC Chairman, Brendan Carr, demanded an apology and threatened the broadcast licenses of ABC affiliates. That prompted Nexstar and Sinclair — two of the nation’s largest owners of local TV stations — to announce they would be preempting Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the foreseeable future. ABC subsequently announced that Kimmel’s show would be suspended indefinitely.

Kimmel’s suspension was met with immense backlash amid concerns that it marked the latest attempt by Trump to censor dissenting voices, and yet another example of corporate capitulation to his administration. Kimmel’s late-night peers, both past and present, spoke out in his support — including Stephen Colbert, who called it “blatant censorship” by an “autocrat.” Earlier on Tuesday, more than 400 actors and musicians — among them Tom Hanks, Ben Stiller, Billy Crystal, Robert De Niro, Florence Pugh, Pedro Pascal, Jennifer Aniston, Michael Keaton, Olivia Rodrigo, and Cyndi Lauper — signed an open letter condemning Trump’s crackdown on free speech.

The Weeknd Bails On Global Citizen

written by jummy84

The Weeknd has dropped out of his planned headlining slot at the Global Citizen Festival on Saturday (Sept. 27) in New York’s Central Park and will be replaced on the bill by Cardi B.

“I regret to share that, due to personal reasons, I am unable to perform at Global Citizen,” the Weeknd (real name: Abel Tesfaye) said in a statement. “Thank you to my fans for taking action with them, as I believe in their mission deeply. Thank you for your understanding and support.”

“Central Park, I’m coming for you!!!,” Cardi B added. “I can’t wait to be home in New York, and to bring my new songs and all the DRAMA to the Global Citizen festival. This one’s not like other music festivals — this one is about coming together to help children around the world, and I’m so proud to support such an important cause.”

Hosted by Hugh Jackman, Global Citizen will also feature performances from Shakira, Tyla, Mariah the Scientist, Camilo and Elyanna and will be carried on YouTube, Amazon Music, Apple Music and iHeartRadio.

The event was the subject of significant controversy when Central Park’s Great Lawn was heavily damaged during its rain-marred 2023 edition, after which Global Citizen paid millions of dollars to restore the grass. At the time, several local politicians called for the festival to be moved to a stadium or arena in the interest of preserving the park’s green space.

Mariah Carey, GloRilla And More

written by jummy84

The 2025 iHeartRadio Music Festival, presented by Capital One, saw some of music’s biggest names hit the stage two nights in a row at the Las Vegas T-Mobile Arena on Sept. 19 and 20. This year’s eclectic lineup included Hip-Hop and R&B stars BigXthaPlug, GloRilla, LL COOL J, Mariah Carey and more.

Night one alone was stacked with moments, but night two saw Carey remind fans why she is, and forever will be, the ultimate icon.

Carey opened the show with “Fantasy,” instantly bringing fans back to her ‘90s era, before transitioning into a mash-up of “Honey” and “Heartbreaker.” She followed up with a live rendition of “My All,” before moving over into 2000s bops like “Touch My Body” and “Obsessed.” Showing that she still has “it,” Carey debuted “Type Dangerous,” the lead single from her upcoming album Here For It All, which is set to drop next week.

The closer, Big Glo, shut down the final night of the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Festival with a set that was high-energy from start to finish. She came out swinging with “Blessed” before running through crowd favorites like “Hollon,” “Tomorrow,” “Wanna Be,” and her Big Boogie collab “Bop.”

The momentum didn’t let up as she also performed the Moneybagg Yo-assisted “All Dere,” “Typa,” and “Whatchu Know About Me” — although Sexyy Red didn’t join her on stage. To conclude her set, Glo sent the crowd home with her anthems “FNF (Let’s Go!),” “TGIF,” and “Yeah Glo!”

For anyone who couldn’t make it to Sin City, iHeart is packaging the weekend into a special set to hit Hulu on October 2, giving fans a front-row seat to one of the most stacked festivals of the year. Take a look at some moments from the two-night event below.

Oasis Live ’25 fan store to reopen in London this week ahead of Wembley return

by jummy84 September 22, 2025
written by jummy84

Oasis‘ official Live ’25 fan store is reopening in London this week, ahead of the band’s return to Wembley Stadium. Find all the details below.

The Britpop group will play two more concerts in the capital this Saturday and Sunday (September 27, 28). It’ll follow an initial five-night run at Wembley over the summer as part of their UK and Ireland comeback tour.

An official pop-up store was launched on Carnaby Street to mark Oasis’ first reunion gigs in London. Now, it has been confirmed that a new shop is opening under the Piccadilly Lights near Regent Street.

Fans will be able to visit the pop-up between 10am and 10pm BST this Friday to Saturday (September 26, 27), and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday (28). Walk-ins are welcome, but pre-booking a slot is advised – you can do so here.

Customers will be able to purchase a range of official Live ’25 clothing – including T-shirts, hoodies, jackets – as well as tour edition coloured vinyl formats of the Oasis back catalogue.

The store is also set to stock items from the Adidas Originals x Oasis collaborations and more.

Oasis wrapped up the North American leg of their Live ’25 tour with two massive shows in Mexico City earlier this month. Their pair of Wembley gigs this week will be followed by further dates in South America, Australia, South Korea and Japan.

The band have released some official live versions of songs from different cities on the trek. So far we’ve had ‘Slide Away’ from Cardiff, ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’ from Manchester, ‘Little By Little’ from London, ‘Bring It On Down’ from Edinburgh and ‘Wonderwall’ from Dublin.

In other news, Liam and Noel Gallagher have been gifted personalised football shirts from Polish club Lech Poznań – a nod to the viral moment at the start of ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’ in their Live ’25 set.

When sharing his thanks for the gesture, Noel said that fans doing ‘the Poznań’ had been “THE highlight” of Oasis‘ reunion shows, with gig-goers from “all over the world” getting involved.

The likes of Paul McCartney, Billie Eilish and Dave Grohl were spotted at Oasis’ recent gigs in Los Angeles, as was Melissa Lim – the woman who inspired the band’s 1995 track ‘Talk Tonight’.

Meanwhile, Noel Gallagher has paid tribute to the “great Mancunian” Ricky Hatton, revealing that he had been texting him just days before his death.

Sarah McLachlan, Jewel, More Cancel ‘Lilith Fair’ Doc Performances

by jummy84 September 22, 2025
written by jummy84

Artists — including Sarah McLachlan and Jewel — scheduled to take the stage at the Los Angeles premiere of the new documentary Lilith Fair: Building a Mystery canceled their performances on Sunday in a move to stand for free speech. The film about the historic Nineties festival is being distributed by ABC New Studio, whose parent company Disney continues to deal with the fallout over its decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel for his comments on Charlie Kirk’s death.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, invitations to the premiere promised “special surprise performances.” Sources revealed to THR that McLachlan and Jewel were set to perform. Puck‘s Matt Belloni also reported that Olivia Rodrigo, who appears in the documentary as well, was meant to be a surprise guest.

McLachlan introduced the film and confirmed that the performances were canceled due to Kimmel’s controversial suspension.

“It’s a gift for all of us to see [this film], but also I’ve grappled with being here tonight and around what to say about the present situation that we are all faced with, the stark contraction to the many advances we’ve made watching the insidious erosion of women’s rights, of trans and queer rights, the muzzling of free speech,” McLachlan said. “I think we’re all fearful for what comes next, and none of us know, but what I do know is that I have to keep pushing forward as an artist, as a woman to find a way through, and though I don’t begin to know what the answer is, I believe we all need to work towards a softening to let in the possibility of a better way, because I see music as a bridge to our shared humanity, to finding common ground.”

She continued: “If Lilith taught me anything, it taught me there is a great strength in coming together to lift each other up instead of tearing each other down. So I really hope this documentary inspires everyone to continue to try and create positive change in your communities, to keep lifting each other up, keep championing the causes you believe in with kindness and empathy because ultimately, we’re all in this together.”

Trending Stories

As she wrapped up her remarks, she further explained why there would be no performances at the event. “I know you’re expecting a performance tonight, and I’m so grateful to all of you for coming, and I apologize if this is disappointing, but we have collectively decided not to perform but instead to stand in solidarity in support of free speech,” McLachlan said. “Thank you for your understanding.”

McLachlan joins many artists who have stood in solidarity with Kimmel, show was taken off air after station owners Nexstar and Sinclair said they wouldn’t air his show in the wake of his comments. Many have accused Disney of bowing to pressure from the Trump administration and suppressing freedom of speech. Jimmy Kimmel Live! has been suspended indefinitely.

Armada Music Opens New Creative Hub in London to Boost Local Scene

by jummy84 September 22, 2025
written by jummy84

LONDON — Armada Music Group, home to the independent dance label of the same name, will open a brand new creative hub in London for its roster, it was announced Monday (Sept. 22).

The 7,000-square-foot space in London’s Old Street in the heart of Shoreditch spans six floors and boasts recording studios, event space, listening rooms and more.

Related

Armada Music was founded in 2003 by Dutch DJ Armin van Buuren, business executive Maykel Piron, and music manager David Lewis. The group now encompasses a number of subsidiary labels, the first-ever dance investment fund (BEAT Music Fund) and a publishing division.

The space in London includes two state-of-the-art recording studios for recording, and room to host writing camps for its roster. An event space has also been built with L-Acoustics club-grade sound system, and has live streaming capabilities and can host a capacity of approximately 130 people. There are also listening rooms for A&R sessions as well as working space for 60 full-time employees. See pictures below.

Speaking exclusively to Billboard U.K., Armada’s chief executive Piron expanded on the decision to bring this space to the U.K., the label’s second-largest market. “The U.K. is undeniably a vibrant hub for dance music, and as a global company, our aim is to sign and develop artists in London on an international scale,” he says. “This expanded presence will provide more opportunities to sign global acts. We expect this to lead to a significant increase in overall global streams. This new space will serve as a dynamic creative hub, fostering the creation of more hits in the UK and worldwide.”

Armada has had success in recent years with Manchester-born DJ and producer D.O.D, who achieved his first U.K. top 20 hit in 2023 with “So Much In Love.” In 2024, the label also saw a resurgence for Mason & Superstar’s 2007 song “Perfect (Exceeder)” which re-entered the top 40 decades after its original release. The space will also serve Armada’s international roster such as Armin van Buuren, Joris Voorn, Lilly Palmer, THEMBA and ARTY.

“This is a pivotal moment for Armada and a testament to the U.K.’s vibrant dance music scene,” said Ben Malone, general manager of Armada Music U.K. “This new hub will empower us to further champion local artists, provide them with unparalleled resources, and foster more innovation and creativity in the UK.”

OutKast Announces Stankonia 25th Anniversary Edition

by jummy84 September 22, 2025
written by jummy84

If Dua Lipa covers and washing machine jingles aren’t enough to satisfy, OutKast have announced a 25th anniversary deluxe edition of Stankonia.

Due out October 31st from Legacy Recordings, Stankonia (25th Anniversary) is a three vinyl set packed with musical and merchandise goodies galore. Chief among those bounties are three new bonus tracks: “Speed Ballin’” (released on streaming platforms for the very first time); remixes of “B.O.B.” by both the Beat Bullies and Cutmaster Swiff; and the Goodie Mob-featuring “Sole Sunday.”

Meanwhile, the piece de resistance of the packaging is brand new cover art from André 3000. There’s also unreleased photos taken during the album’s 2000 promotional cycle, a glow-in-the-dark poster, and deluxe gatefold packaging. Sadly, they didn’t go for our idea of selling “‘Gasoline Dreams’-scented air fresheners.” The CD and vinyl versions of Stankonia are available now for pre-order.

For fans seeking even more OutKast merch, the duo’s teamed up with Ceremony of Roses for an exclusive merch drop on October 2nd. The limited edition drop includes tees with graphics taken from the original Stankonia photoshoot, a “neon-inspired Mount Rushmore-style graphic of OutKast,” and hoodies, caps, and posters. Fans will also be able to purchase all-new merch, including an André 3000-designed poster featuring an alternate Stankonia CD cover as well as hoodies and a corduroy cap. You can also pre-order everything via OutKast’s official merch store.

This release bonanza comes mere weeks before OutKast is inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. (Yes, still-ravenous merch-heads, there will also be a limited-edition reversible bomber jacket to coincide with the November 8th ceremony.) And while there’s many accomplishments that lead to this honor, Stankonia has to be up there in encapsulating OutKast’s musical/cultural contributions. The LP revolutionized the way hip-hop is made and consumed across the board, creating a new regime of inventive, left-of-center music that resonates to this day. Stankonia helped rap embrace all that was weird, silly, and wild (but still emotionally robust), and in doing, so nothing has ever heard, looked, or felt the same.

If you’d prefer to celebrate your OutKast fandom in a slightly less commercial manner, Legacy and Sony are also launching the “So Fresh, So Green” initiative. On October 29th, fans across Atlanta will gather for a community recycling drive at the Headland Delowe shopping center. (OK, yes, the first 100 people on site will also receive a limited-edition OutKast T-shirt, but think not of “Ms. Jackson” but rather Mother Earth!)

THE REVOLUTION WILL BE PHOTOGRAPHED

by jummy84 September 22, 2025
written by jummy84

As hip-hop was first blooming, with small steps, into the mainstream culture, long before it was the Earth-straddling phenomenon it became, a small cohort of photographers was capturing it in its infancy in New York City.

Joe Conzo took some of hip-hop’s first ‘baby pictures’ in the 1970s, including of early b-boys and b-girls, DJs and MCs. Glen E. Friedman, who frequented clubs like CBGB and The Annex, shot punk pioneers like Bad Brains and Minor Threat in their rawest, most kinetic forms in the 1980s and later the Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, and other eventual hip-hop juggernauts, working for Def Jam Recordings.

London-born Janette Beckman, too, photographed a plethora of future hip-hop legends, including LL COOL J, Slick Rick, EPMD, Salt-N-Peppa, and Run-DMC, many of whom used her images for their album covers. A little later on, T. Eric Monroe, a New Jersey native, found himself enveloped in the scene as a photographer for Thrasher and The Source throughout the 1990s. He was there when The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur were just beginning to catapult to fame and was able to capture a rare image of the two together.

While these incredible photographers’ careers have continued to flourish over the last 40 years, their foundational shots helped visually define those bygone, more innocent and unguarded eras, and cemented their importance.

And here we spotlight some of that work.

Joe Conzo

Johan Kugelberg, author, archivist and musicologist, learned about Conzo’s early black-and-white images of hip-hop as it had unfolded in the Bronx. He insisted Conzo do an exhibition and book built on his photography.

“It wasn’t until I met Johan that I realized I had the lost Dead Sea Scrolls of hip-hop photography,” Joe says. “I’m a latecomer to this. Martha Cooper was already established as was Janette Beckman and Ernie Paniccioli, people like that. I looked up to these people and was like, ‘Wow, I have so much that I’m sitting on that nobody has seen.’”

Kugelberg vowed to start a hip-hop collection at Cornell University. They also curated “Born in the Bronx: A Visual Record of the Early Days of Hip-Hop”, an exhibition and book, inuring the trailblazing work Conzo created in the 1970s.

He had acquired a passion for photography at Agnes Russell School, a private elementary school located on the Columbia University campus in Manhattan. He began taking shots of his Bronx neighborhood, which was littered with abandoned buildings and urban decay. By the early ’70s, hip-hop had begun its ascent, and Joe had front row seats to all the b-boys, b-girls, DJs, graffiti artists and MCs pioneering the culture.

In 2008, the images in the Born in the Bronx book became part of a permanent archive at Cornell University, The Cornell Hip Hop Collection. “My negatives sit on the same shelf as the Gettysburg Address,” he says with a laugh. “How fucking cool is that?”

The Fugees as young people. (Photo by T. Eric Monroe)

T. Eric Monroe

Around 2012, while rifling through some old negatives, T. Eric Monroe discovered a rare photo of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls together, the two central figures in the East Coast-West Coast rivalry that eventually cost them their lives. Captured in 1993 when Monroe was working for Thrasher, the photo depicted a more innocent time, before rap beefs dominated the headlines. The image now lives in his book Rare & Unseen Moments of ’90s Hip Hop Vol. 1, a collection of the photos he took while shooting for The Source magazine, once christened the “Bible of Hip-Hop,” and Thrasher.

Monroe picked up a camera at five years old. As he got a little older, he started skateboarding and brought his camera along. In 1988, during junior year of high school, his work caught Thrasher’s attention, jump starting his career. By the early ’90s, now well-established, he began snapping the blossoming hip-hop scene in New York City, leading to a photo editor role at The Source.

His photos of The Roots, Wu-Tang Clan (specifically Ol’ Dirty Bastard and GZA), the Fugees, Tupac Shakur, Missy Elliott and Lil’ Kim captured hip-hop’s golden era, but a chance encounter with Gregory Hines remains one of the biggest highlights of his career. He asked for a photo and, to his surprise, Hines offered to do a shoot down the street.

“That let me know I was a professional,” he says.

Monroe has plans for another book in 2027, a more in-depth look at artists like Digable Planets, De La Soul, The Roots, Tupac and many more.

Glen E. Friedman

Glen was never just an observer of subcultures, he was a participant too. A native of North Carolina, Friedman moved in third grade to Los Angeles, where he immersed himself in skateboarding. In late 1976, he convinced a group of friends to let him take photographs of them skating empty pools. One of those photos, first published in Skateboarder magazine when he was 14, led him to Def Jam Recordings.

Bouncing from L.A. to NYC in the 1980s, he was already swept up in the punk rock scene, periodically throwing himself into the mosh pit. Around 1985, he was introduced to Def Jam co-founders Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons, who had seen his photos of the Beastie Boys when they were still a punk band. As hip-hop started to boom, Friedman was right there.

“I was just feeling the music,” he says. “It felt like a Black kid’s version of punk. I wanted to photograph it right away.”

Glen shot some of Def Jam’s iconic album covers, from Public Enemy’s Yo! Bum Rush the Show (1987) and It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back (1988) to LL COOL J’s Bigger and Deffer (1987) and Slick Rick’s The Great Adventures of Slick Rick (1988).

“It’s hard to pick a favorite,” he says. “I have favorite photos at different times. But Public Enemy’s Yo! Bum Rush the Show cover is definitely a favorite.”

Salt (l) and Pepa (r) on a NYC street with a random innocent stranger. (Photo by Janette Beckman)

Janette Beckman

Janette Beckman will be the first to admit she was in the right place at the right time. She could not have predicted her images of Public Enemy, EPMD, Run-DMC and Slick Rick and others would help define hip-hop’s early era. Originally from England, Beckman cut her teeth at Melody Maker and The Face.

In 1982, she went to New York City and presented her portfolio to record companies, ending up at hip-hop labels. Soon she was shooting emerging acts like Salt-N-Pepa, Public Enemy and the Beastie Boys.

She’s published several books, including The Breaks: Stylin’ and Profilin’ 1982-1990, Rebels: From Punk To Dior and The Mash Up: Hip-Hop Photos Remixed By Iconic Graffiti Artists in collaboration with Cey Adams, and has been shown in galleries worldwide and by the permanent collections of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, the Museum of the City of New York, and the National Portrait Gallery in London.

Stephen A. Smith Criticizes Jimmy Kimmel Over Charlie Kirk Joke

by jummy84 September 22, 2025
written by jummy84

Stephen A. Smith had smoke for Jimmy Kimmel on Thursday’s (Sept. 18) episode of his SiriusXM show Straight Shooter. The ESPN commentator weighed in on Kimmel’s recent remarks about conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s assassination, and he wasn’t impressed.

“The only thing that I would say as it pertains to Jimmy Kimmel is, where was the joke?” Smith said with a straight face. “Because you’re a late night host, and obviously that has a comedic attachment to it. Where was the joke? Obviously, it wasn’t anything funny about that.”

Kimmel, who usually mixes political jabs into his monologues, addressed Kirk’s Sept. 10 killing during Monday’s (Sept. 15) episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!. The activist was fatally shot while speaking with students at Utah Valley University. Authorities later arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in connection to the shooting.

On air, Kimmel suggested that Trump supporters were trying to twist the tragedy for political gain. “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” he said.

In consequence, ABC announced Wednesday (Sept. 17) that it would indefinitely suspend Jimmy Kimmel Live! following the backlash, and Nexstar confirmed it would be pulling the show from its ABC affiliates. Kimmel himself has yet to publicly comment on his suspension.

Smith, who actually guest-hosted Kimmel’s show in 2021, took a stern approach reminding media figures that words can carry weight. “In the times we’re living in, you have to be very, very careful about what you say when you open your mouth,” he warned. “And you can’t associate a political group of people with a murderer.”

He also called out former President Donald Trump, who celebrated Kimmel’s suspension on Truth Social. “That goes for both sides,” Smith stressed. “President Trump shouldn’t be coming out of his mouth talking about how … ‘this was instigated and stirred on by the Left.’”

Take a look below at Straight Shooter, where Stephen A. Smith goes off about Jimmy Kimmel’s remarks.
