Fitness coach shares the 3 foundational principles of strength training to build lasting strength

Strength training isn’t just about going through the motions – it’s about mastering the basics with focus and consistency. Building real, lasting strength takes time, patience, and a commitment to perfecting the foundations rather than chasing quick results.

Fitness trainer Raj Ganpath – the Founder of Slow Burn Method, the Co-founder and head coach at Quad Fitness and the author of Simple, Not Easy – has revealed three foundational principles to focus on if you want to build enduring strength.

In an Instagram video posted on October 28, the fitness coach highlights, “If you can take the time to learn the foundational movements, engage the right muscles, and build on them over the course of the next few years, you will continually get stronger inside the gym and feel stronger outside the gym.”

Foundational movements of strength training

Raj recommends learning the six foundational movements of strength training, which include – the plank, the hang, the squat, the deadlift, the overhead press, and the rope. He highlights, “The reason for focusing on these six movements is that they cover pretty much all the major joints and muscles in the body, and learning to do them will serve you well for a very long time.”

Engage the right muscles

The fitness trainer emphasises that the whole point of strength training is not to merely complete the movements for the sake of it, but to stimulate and strengthen the right muscles. He explains, “This stimulation happens when you utilise the right technique and ensure you are feeling the right muscles. Achieving this level of engagement will require a lot of practice, self-awareness, and most probably the guidance of a coach, but it is most definitely worth it.”

Build on the foundational movements

Raj emphasises building on the six foundational movements – practising and working on them over and over again, doubling down on the basics – as the key to building lasting strength, without getting distracted by quick fixes. He stresses, “If you can accomplish this, 90% of strength training is done, and everything else is just minutia.”

The Dark Side Of Hollywood: Sydney Sweeney’s Unbelievable Story! | Glamsham.com

by jummy84 October 29, 2025
written by jummy84

Actress Sydney Sweeney has spoken out about the pressures she experienced early in her career, with the actress stating that she was once asked to take Botox in her teenage years. Speaking with Variety, the Euphoria star revealed how a professional in the industry advised her to “fix” her face if she were to make it in Hollywood, with the actress stating that she was advised to alter her natural facial features.

“I have really strong eyebrow muscles,” Sweeney said. “And I once had someone say to me, ‘Fix your face or you’re not going to make it.’ I should get Botox. I was 16!” The actress also mentioned another annoying early experience: “I’m in a casting, reading my scene, and the casting director is munching on a bag of potato chips. I’m like, ‘You’re not even listening at all.’

In spite of the discouragement, Sweeney has become one of Hollywood’s most in-demand young stars. With standout roles in Euphoria and The White Lotus, she has made a name for herself by selecting emotionally layered and frequently divisive performances. “I find myself gravitating towards characters that are stereotypically unlikable,” she told us. “I like to challenge an audience to have empathy for that person.”

Mike White, the author of The White Lotus, has credited Sweeney with her effortless acting talent and charisma. “There was something very offhand about her,” he explained. “She was very charming, and I thought that would serve the part because the character was so unlikeable on paper. When you’re editing, you notice she just jumps out on screen. My attention always went to her, regardless of who’s in the scene.”. That’s natural screen magnetism that’s difficult to measure.

Filmmaker Paul Feig, who has worked with Sweeney, echoed White’s admiration, describing her as exceptionally confident and media-savvy. “She’s probably one of the most confident people I’ve ever met — in a good way,” Feig said. “She’s very smart about publicity and social media. As we’re getting ready to promote, we’ll say, ‘Let’s do this, it’s the hot trend on TikTok right now,’ and she’ll say, ‘No, that was last month. Here’s the hot trend.’”

Sweeney’s tale brings to light the pressures put on young women in Hollywood as well as her strength in overcoming them. She is only 28, yet she continues to make room for the rich female character and shows the world that authenticity, rather than conformity, is what will really make a star.

Are you walking the right way? Study reveals the best pace for your daily walks

You may be walking wrong, even if you hit 10,000 steps daily. The pace you set is just as important as how many steps you take.

Hitting the daily 10k is regarded as a bare minimum for fitness and good health to ensure you avoid a sedentary lifestyle. But are you doing your bare minimum right? A study published in Annals of Internal Medicine on October 28, 2025, revealed that how you take your steps matters just as much. And by this, it means the pace you set as you are walking is as important as the total number of steps you take. So, don’t fret if you are unable to reach the designated 10k step count and instead focus on improving the pace.

Know which pace is right for you. (Picture credit: Shutterstock)

ALSO READ: Just 15 minutes of brisk walking a day may cut death risk by 20%, study finds

What should be the ideal pace?

As per the research, you benefit from your daily walks more if you go for longer, continuous stretches, instead of shorter, interrupted bouts. The researchers examined the participants and found that those who walked for 15 minutes or more at a stretch had a much lower risk of heart disease and early death. Those who walked 15 minutes or more continuously without stopping had just 0.8 per cent deaths and 4.39 per cent chances of heart disease. This is in contrast to those whose continuous stretches of walking lasted only 5 minutes or less, 4.36 per cent of early deaths, while 13.03 per cent developed heart disease.

Walk smarter to reap real benefits. (Picture credit: Made with Gemini AI)
Walk smarter to reap real benefits. (Picture credit: Made with Gemini AI)

What does this mean?

This means the longer you walk, the healthier your heart becomes. And it’s not just about hitting the 10,000 step mark; what really matters is how you choose to walk. Make sure your pace is continuous and not constantly interrupted by breaks or pauses. Even those who are relatively sedentary, walking fewer than 5,000 steps a day, can still gain heart health benefits if they walk for longer stretches at a time.

In other words, your daily walk shouldn’t be a slow walk at a leisurely pace, like a stroll in the garden. To truly help your heart, aim for at least a steady 10-15 continuous pace without stopping at all.

BTS group member Kim Taehyung, lovingly known as V, made history on 26 October when he became the first-ever K-pop star to set foot at Vogue World 2025: Hollywood. The glamorous event was hosted at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, and V was a guest of Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, which is another feather on his global career cap.

Displaying his signature poise and cultural confidence, V made a breathtaking entrance in a custom gray JayBaek Couture jacket beautifully merging Korean heritage with contemporary Hollywood glamour. His look featured hanbok-inspired cutting, a jade norigae pendant, and a 120-year-old Gojong-era pocket watch, offering a discreet yet powerful nod to Korea’s royal heritage. The merging of contemporary couture and ancient symbolism was one of the most talked-about fashion moments of the evening.

V sat in the front row, surrounded by Hollywood stars Cynthia Erivo and Dakota Johnson, and drew attention from international media and followers. Throughout the evening, he was spotted warmly conversing with Anna Wintour, solidifying his growing influence in the fashion world.

World Stroke Day 2025: Chennai cardiologist warns of a ‘stubborn’ hypertension type that silently raises stroke risk

by jummy84 October 28, 2025

World Stroke Day 2025: October 29 is observed as World Stroke Day, aimed at raising awareness about stroke prevention, treatment and recovery. The theme for this year is ‘Every minute counts,’ highlighting the importance of timely action, which helps to save lives. As per the World Stroke Organisation‘s data, 90 per cent of all strokes are linked to modifiable factors. On this day of observance, it is crucial to take a closer look at one of the most significant ones: hypertension.

There’s a type of high blood pressure which is stubborn, leading to strokes. (Picture credit: Shutterstock)

ALSO READ: Neurologist shares the 3S that silently increase your stroke risk

Several studies have been conducted that established hypertension as one of the primary risk factors for stroke. One of the recent study published in Cardiovascular Diabetology in August 2025 further reinforced this link, that when hypertension is combined with elevated stress-related blood sugar levels, stroke risks spike significantly. Hypertension is such a dominant and well-established predictor that newer studies are now combining it with other biological markers to get an even better picture of the stroke risks.

While you are already aware of hypertension, there’s one type of hypertension that is stronger and dangerous, because it stays high even after taking multiple medications.

To understand this type of hypertension, HT Lifestyle reached out to Dr Babu Ezhumalai, senior consultant – interventional cardiology, structural and endovascular interventions cardiology at MGM Healthcare in Chennai. He drew attention to this type of hypertension as it’s ‘stubborn.’ It is called resistant hypertension (RHTN)

What is resistant hypertension?

As per the cardiologist, resistant hypertension is more than ‘regular high blood pressure.’ If high blood pressure is dangerous, then this type takes it up a notch because it usually doesn’t respond to medications as easily.

“Resistant hypertension (RHTN) is a stubborn form where blood pressure stays high even after taking three or more medications, including a diuretic. What makes it especially concerning is its strong link to stroke, a risk many people are unaware of,” Dr Ezhumalai said.

Further, the condition progresses quietly, as the cardiologist added, “By the time warning signs appear, organs like the heart, kidneys, and brain may already be under strain.”

He cited a study from 2023 which found that, compared to patients without resistant hypertension, those with the condition had a 14 per cent higher risk of stroke.

If this type of hypertension is left unchecked, Dr Ezhumalai alerted that the chances of strokes silently increase. “Patients with RHTN are more likely to experience strokes, often without any obvious warning.” Other than stroke, he added, this hypertension also raises the risk of organ damage.

“About 10% of people with high blood pressure may have RHTN. In India, millions may be at risk without realising it, because the condition often shows no symptoms until serious complications occur,” he said, adding that the lack of early warning signs makes consistent monitoring essential.

What are the warning signs?

Headaches are one of the common signs. (Picture credit: Freepik)

“RHTN is usually silent. Headaches, dizziness, or nosebleeds may occur only in severe cases. Most damage to the heart, brain, and kidneys happens quietly over time,” the cardiologist described some of the signs.

Management

Resistant Hypertension can be managed with the help of lifestyle adjustments and medical care. Here are 4 key steps Dr Ezhumalai recommended for managing resistant hypertension:

  1. Regular monitoring is essential: Check your blood pressure at home and consider 24-hour ambulatory BP monitoring (ABPM) to detect hidden spikes or nocturnal hypertension, both key risk factors for stroke.
  2. Diet: Even stubborn blood pressure can respond to lifestyle changes. Following a DASH diet, rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and low-fat dairy, while reducing salt intake, can help lower blood pressure.
  3. Exercise: Regular physical activity, such as brisk walking, swimming, or cycling, also contributes to better control.
  4. Stress management and quality sleep: Managing stress and getting adequate sleep play an important role, as both help reduce strain on the heart and brain and support overall cardiovascular health.

100-year-old Japanese chef from Jiro Dreams of Sushi documentary shares his secret to long life: ‘best medicine is…’

Usually, in the conversation of longevity, there’s often a search for a ‘medicine’ to increase one’s lifespan and stay healthy for longer. The discourse shifts from superfoods, exercise trends, diets and so on. But what about work? It’s hardly ever counted among the longevity secrets, as usually it is perceived as the very thing that wears people down. Working is typically associated with long hours of burnout and stress.

Sushi legend Jiro Ono turned 100 years old. (Bureau of Social Welfare, Tokyo Metropolitan Government via AP)

Yet for Japan’s culinary legend Jiro Ono, known from the Jiro Dreams of Sushi 2011 documentary, work is the very thing that’s keeping him alive and thriving.

According to an AP report, published on October 27, 2025, Ono, who is now a centenarian, is still not ready to retire. Jiro Ono turned 100 years old this year on October 27, marking a major milestone. Even after a whole century, it turns out retirement isn’t anywhere on his horizon, at least for now. The report, based on government statistics, also stated that Jiro is now among Japan’s nearly 100,000.

What is Jiro’s secret to staying healthy?

The AP report included excerpts from his interaction with Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike, who asked him the secret behind his health. To this Jiro replied, “I can no longer come to the restaurant every day … but even at 100, I try to work if possible. I believe the best medicine is to work.” His passion for his craft is evident. Even when age has slowed him, as he may not be able to show up every day, his dedication towards his passion remains unwavering. To him, sushi-making is beyond just a profession.

Jiro Ono, the world’s oldest Michelin-starred head chef and a three-time winner of the honour, is living proof of how passion and purpose can act as powerful longevity medicines.

“I plan to keep going for about five more years,” he said last month at an event of Japan’s Respect for the Aged Day, highlighting how he aims to continue working.

He admitted that his hands don’t work ‘well’, but he hasn’t given up, as he still serves sushi to special guests.

About his work

According to the AP report, Jiro is the founder of Sukiyabashi Jiro. It is a 10-seat sushi bar in the basement of a building in Tokyo’s posh Ginza district. He started training for sushi-making at age 7 at the Japanese restaurant of a local inn. He became a sushi chef when he was 25. 15 years later, he opened his own restaurant in 1965.

In 2011, Jiro Dreams of Sushi, a documentary, captured his life’s journey and dedication towards his work. It won several awards and brought his discpline for his craft to a wider, global audience.

Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Jaw-Dropping Reason For Refusing Rashmika Mandanna’s Film! | Glamsham.com

Rashmika Mandanna and Dheekshith Shetty starrer The Girlfriend has been making waves ever since its trailer release. Rahul Ravindran directs the movie, which will have a grand theatrical release on November 7, 2025, in various languages — Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam. Presented by Allu Aravind under the banner Geetha Arts, the movie guarantees an intense and insightful look at modern relationships.

Recently, there was an interesting behind-the-scenes fact about the casting revealed. Director Rahul Ravindran had first approached Arjun Reddy and Animal director Sandeep Reddy Vanga for a cameo. But Sandeep rejected the offer, saying that the character was not a cameo. The character was then offered to popular comedian Vennela Kishore, and he too refused. Finally, Rahul Ravindran took the decision to act himself.

The Girlfriend delves into the darker and more emotional aspects of love, control, and obsession. The trailer starts off with Rashmika’s character seeming tense and requesting a break from her boyfriend, played by Dheekshith Shetty. The film then cuts to when they were in a better phase in their relationship and how Dheekshith’s character turned out to be obsessive. What begins as a fiery romance gradually turns into a suffocating affair, with Rashmika’s character being trapped and yearning to break free. The tone and theme of the trailer have led to comparisons with Kabir Singh, indicating a dramatic, emotionally driven plot.

Rashmika Mandanna posted the trailer on Instagram, captioning it, “This one’s not your usual love story… it’ll make you think.” Fans welcomed the actress’s choice of role with enthusiasm in the comments, appreciative that she had opted for a non-traditional role. The release of the trailer also encouraged speculation online, arriving just a day after news of Rashmika’s supposed engagement to Vijay Deverakonda broke online.

The Girlfriend boasts a robust support cast in the form of Koushik Mahata, Rohini, and Rao Ramesh. The soundtrack for the movie is by Hesham Abdul Wahab, who is known for his soulful tunes, and cinematography is done by Krishnan Vasant. Production design is by S. Rama Krishna and Monika Nigotre, and the editor is Chota K. Prasad. Directed by Dheeraj Mogilineni and Vidya Koppineedi, The Girlfriend is well on its way to becoming an intriguing psychological drama with a deep exploration of love and obsession.

Cardiologist reveals what you should have after dinner if you are craving something before bedtime: ‘2 walnuts…’

If your sleep is not as smooth-sailing as you would like, instead of blaming the ticking clock in your room or the inability to find the right side of pillow (the envied cold side), consider backing up a bit and evaluating the journey leading up to bedtime.

Improve sleep quality with the right daily habits.(Freepik)

Upon a closer look, it may feel like an obstacle course: doomscrolling on social media, resisting the urge to start a new series and playing devil’s advocate about whether to heat the frozen pizza or make ramen from scratch.

One of the primary sleep disturbances is the food you eat leading up to bedtime. A study published in 2020 in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health revealed that meal timing is a key determinant for frequent awakenings at night and poor sleep quality. Meal timing here refers to how close your dinner is to bedtime. The researchers reiterated the value of the gap between meals and bedtime. They called it ‘a widely accepted sleep hygiene practice.’

Eating heavily before bed sets off a chain reaction. When you eat close to bedtime, you are likely to face sleep problems because of a bloated belly. You end up tossing and turning, and before you know your alarm is already ringing to ‘wake’ you up.

A more recent study from this year, in October, highlighted that if you sleep late, your brain ages faster, inviting dangers like neurodegenerative disorders, such as dementia.

So, when exactly should you eat dinner then? To find out the answer to this question, HT Lifestyle reached out to Dr Haresh Mehta, consultant, cardiology at PD Hinduja Hospital and MRC, Khar. The rough time frame, he suggested, “Try finishing your dinner at least 2 hours before bedtime.”

If you are one of the few to eat dinner late at night, whether because of work pressures or simply habit, it’s worth knowing how it hurts your body, for an eye-opener moment.

“When you eat a heavy dinner late at night, your body keeps working instead of resting. It can lead to acidity, poor sleep, and higher sugar and cholesterol levels. Over time, that puts pressure on your heart,” the cardiologist shared.

Even after dinner, sometimes the cravings stay, the urge to cleanse your palate or munch on something sweet/spicy to call it a day. Instead of reaching for usuals like chips or noodles, Dr Haresh Mehta shared with us these four healthy options and highlighted the benefits for each:

1. Chamomile tea

  • Swap with: Instead of tea or coffee, try a warm cup of chamomile tea.
  • Health value: It helps blood pressure stay under control and relaxes blood vessels.
  • Sleep value: People who drink it often tell me they sleep more deeply and wake up fresher.
  • How to have it: Avoid adding sugar. A few drops of honey are fine.

2. Turmeric water

  • Health value: Turmeric has a natural compound called curcumin. It helps reduce swelling inside your blood vessels, controls cholesterol, and improves blood flow. It keeps arteries clean and heart relaxed.
  • Sleep value: Those who drink it feel lighter, sleep better, and wake up without that heavy feeling.
  • How to have it: Mix one teaspoon of turmeric powder in a glass of warm water. Can add a few drops of lemon juice and half a teaspoon of honey for taste. Drink it warm, not hot, about one hour after dinner.

3. Small and handful of nuts (walnuts or almonds)

Eat 2 walnuts. (Picture credit: Shutterstock)

  • Swap with: Instead of chips or biscuits, eat healthy nuts if one feels like munching.
  • Health value: They have good fats that lower bad cholesterol and keep your arteries clean.
  • Portion: Nuts are healthy, but high in calories. Eat only about five to seven soaked almonds or two walnuts

4. Lemon and ginger tea

  • Health value: Great option after dinner, reduces bloating. It also improves blood flow, reduces inflammation.
  • Sleep value: Sleep quality is better if digestion is smooth. This tea helps with digestion.

Heart-healthy habits begin one step at a time. Late-night dinners take a toll on your heart functions. So when can you start seeing the results? The cardiologist revealed that within two weeks itself you start to see changes in your sleep patterns. “Small changes matter. If you replace late-night snacks with these simple drinks or foods for even two weeks, you’ll start feeling lighter, sleeping better, and your heart will thank you,” he elaborated.

Emraan Hashmi’s Clever Marketing Strategy For Haq: Targeting Muslim Audiences! | Glamsham.com

by jummy84 October 28, 2025

Actor Emraan Hashmi is all set to release his next courtroom drama Haq, which will be released in theatres on November 7, 2025. Famous for playing varied and challenging roles, the 46-year-old actor recently spoke about how the movie touched him deeply — both as an artist and a believer.

Addressing the trailer launch function on October 27, Emraan called Haq one of the most significant endeavors in his career. The actor explained that the movie addresses a sensitive social and religious theme, a subject that needed sensitive narration and honesty of emotions. As reported by ANI, Emraan stated that he was tentative at first about the way the subject would be handled, since he did not want the story to get biased or disrespectful. After going through the script, he was sure that Haq had managed that balance to perfection.

“I wanted to make sure the film had a neutral outlook,” he mentioned. “When I read it, I found it to be absolutely fair and neutral.” Referring to Haq as both “neutral” and “pro-women,” Emraan stated that the film has a balanced perspective of a controversial topic yet at the same time defends women’s rights and honor. “When people exit after watching this film, I don’t know what their view will be,” he further added. But I think that most will find it very well-balanced — and what comes across strongest is that it’s a pro-women movie.

Emraan also discussed what Haq to him as an individual means, explaining that it is a liberal Muslim perspective he closely identifies with. “For my community, I felt this is from a liberal Muslim perspective. I think this is a fantastic piece of work. Muslims must really come and see this movie because you will relate to it in a very different way,” he added.

With Haq, the actor is perhaps crossing over to more than his typical genres of thrillers and love stories, exploring a film that is thought-provoking in its themes of faith, justice, and gender equality.

The movie has already started creating a buzz for its strong performances, dramatic courtroom scenes, and socially relevant storytelling. With Emraan Hashmi entering this complex role, Haq assures to be not only a film experience, but also a conversation about equality, religion, and the battle for women’s rights in modern times.
