Xu Zhi Shanghai Spring 2026 Collection

Xuzhi Chen is Shanghai’s resident boho spokesman. At first glance, his spring 2026 collection—his second since his big return to the Shanghai Fashion Week fold last season—looked as if it were engineered to accompany the fashion dictionary’s entry on boho-chic, checking every box with its wispy dresses, ballooning pantaloons, and diaphanous silk blouses. But as he explained in the lead up to the show, Chen was getting at something deeper and more romantic.

He cited the French poet Arthur Rimbaud as an inspiration, but rather than focus on his volatile early years and his torrid affair with Paul Verlaine he was thinking about his later days. After spending his youth in the arts, leading a precarious, vagabond-like life with Verlaine, Rimbaud left his career as a writer and began travelling extensively. He traversed Europe, mostly on foot, and became a soldier to explore Indonesia, then the Dutch East Indies, eventually settling in Yemen. On his runway, Chen considered what Rimbaud might have found during his travels.

To his credit, rather than a melange of disparate elements, what Chen conjured was a sense of wanderlust. On the womenswear front, he offered some nice dresses and embellished both blouses and dresses with cascades of ruffles, which he paired with either trousers—jeans or tailored, the former not always successfully—and flouncy skirts. His boho vision was most clearly realized in his menswear: three-piece suits were cut amply but not oversized in pretty silk brocades and styled either shirtless or with blouses and, here and there, a pantaloon—and always accessorized with sandals. Super short-shorts helped add sharpness to the softness of other looks, and amped up the sex appeal of the collection overall. There was an air of idiosyncrasy to his men’s looks that the designer should leverage across his full collection. The story Chen told felt as if Rimbaud had taken up traveling not to move on from his writing, but to document it as a poet.

Olandria Carthen On HBCU, Nicolandria, & More

“In that moment in time, I had to remember: Tuskegee literally prepares you for moments like this,” says the beloved reality star, model, and aspiring entrepreneur, on the latest episode of Go Off, Sis, in partnership with Target, about how her Historically Black College and University (HBCU) experience prepared her to face the realities of working in the elevator industry — one that’s very white and very male. “I fell into a mini post-college depression. Imagine going from an all-Black classroom to being the only Black person in the office. But I feel like Tuskegee showed me how to adapt to those types of environments and how to network. I had to remind myself: Never shrink yourself in the presence of others to make them feel more empowered.”

Why the High-Volume Fashion Trend Is Defining Fashion Right Now

During Fashion Month, designers embraced the high-volume fashion trend, putting dramatic silhouettes at the forefront of their spring-summer 2026 collections. The antithesis of the revamped bandage dress and the plethora of naked dresses on the red carpet, these oversized, sculptural looks that sit away from the body were everywhere we turned, from New York to Paris—call it cocoon dressing.

Glamour’s cocoon dressing edit

At some shows, the trend took flight in the form of sculptural hoop skirts: Meruert Tolegen sent a model down the runway in a strapless minidress that jutted out at the waist, which would make walking through the door a challenging feat. Tibi and Dior made strong arguments for wide, larger-than-life skirts that offer wearers ample space from passersby, while Saint Laurent made sculptures out of nylon ball gowns. And balloon-like outerwear and barrel-armed tops walked the likes of Givenchy, MKDT Studio, Vaquera, Zimmermann, and Chloé.

The shift toward inflated silhouettes has been brewing for a while now, with barrel jeans, wide-leg trousers, and exaggerated blazers trickling down from the runways into our wardrobes. But this Fashion Month, the outsized looks drove home that, yes, we could all really use some room to breathe right now. “Fashion always absorbs the emotional atmosphere,” says Maite Aramayo, a fashion writer who runs the newsletter Sugarlesscoat. “When there’s uncertainty or tension in the world, great designers translate that into form and material rather than making literal political statements.”

“We’ve seen a kind of oversaturation of these almost quasi-superhero spandex ensembles that adhere to the body and put the female form very front and center,” says Mosha Lundström Halbert, founder of the fashion podcast Newsfash. “For a lot of women, that’s not how they feel most comfortable moving through the world, with everything on display.”

Many of the voluminous runway looks create a force field of fabric, acting as a form of protection. “To me, it’s designed for women through the female gaze,” says Kristen Bateman, a fashion writer, author, and creative consultant, referencing designers like Simone Rocha and Cecilie Bahnsen, who have always championed large, billowy styles. “We’re living in strange times, and I don’t think naked dressing fits the bill for many real-world women’s lives.” While it may be a style that works on the red carpet, Bateman says she wouldn’t feel safe or comfortable freeing the nipple on, say, the New York City subway.

Laura Harrier’s Sheer Academy Museum Gala After-Party Dress

by jummy84 October 20, 2025

If you thought the looks at this weekend’s Academy Museum Gala were good—and they absolutely were, from Hailey Bieber’s Schiaparelli gown with padded hips to Greta Lee’s lace Dior dress by Jonathan Anderson—just wait until you see some of the after-party ensembles that were spotted at Giorgio Armani’s celebration at Chateau Marmont. Sure, some attendees chose to stay fitted in their red carpet creations, but that wasn’t the case for everyone, including Laura Harrier, who quickly changed out of her black sequin Gucci by Demna number when the gala ended, switching into something a little more… risqué.

Following the night’s main event, Harrier slipped on a Dolce & Gabbana sheer black dress from the Italian brand’s spring 2024 collection that featured a V neck, spaghetti straps, and a corset bodice. The model-actress, who has worked with stylist Danielle Goldberg for years now, paired the thong-baring piece with ’90s-esque Gianvito Rossi sandals and added a tiny satin evening bag as a finishing touch.
