Mukcyen Tokyo Spring 2026 Collection

by jummy84 September 2, 2025
written by jummy84

The buzziest womenswear debut on Tokyo Fashion Week’s slimmed down schedule this season is Yuka Kimura, a 27-year-old Yohji Yamamoto alum who started her own brand, Mukcyen (pronounced muh-shan), in 2023. Kimura is the winner of the JFW Next Brand Award 2026, and thus kicked off a week of shows with her first outing for the brand.

The show unfolded in a Dune-like palette of skintight dresses, while the thick leather harnesses, corset jerkins, and chainmail detailing lent a medieval-vampire dark fantasy vibe. Layered cupro dresses, tops, and leggings clung and hung from the body like bandages. Appropriately these looks were part of what the designer is calling the “second skin series,” and had been infused with oil, which Kimura said increases the skin’s moisture content. Clothing meets skincare—handy.

There were deconstructed pink velour tracksuits too, and some of the models nursed small beaten-up teddy bears on their sleeves, but any softness was neutralized by the dangerous-looking silver claws from Tokyo-based jewelry designer Fangophilia. Kimura, who has bleached hair and eyebrows and wears a lot of body-con black, said of her aesthetic: “I like to look serious rather than fun.”

As well as a designer, Kimura is an influencer who has built a 200k-strong social following, her feed populated with the same dystopian techno-goth vibes as her runway. And while it would be easy to write her off as another fashion Instagrammer starting their own vanity brand, the fashion talent and potential was clear at this first outing. You could certainly see those second skin dresses on Tokyo’s edgiest club kids. “The ideal person I’m envisioning is someone who is assertive and unyielding,” she said. “It’s about more than just being popular; I want the women who wear my clothes to feel self-assured.”

Jennifer Aniston Finally Reveals Why She’s Never Attended the Met Gala

by jummy84 September 2, 2025
written by jummy84

Jennifer Aniston has always been the quintessential L.A. girl. From her signature flip flops and tank tops to her sun-kissed bronde hair, she epitomizes what we think of as California style, as eponymous to L.A. as the Dodgers, palm trees, and green juice.

But Aniston has also spent plenty of time on the East Coast New York as well. Whether she’s filming The Morning Show on location or dining out with friends or a rumored new relationship, she’s obviously comfortable navigating New York City.

So, why then, has Jennifer Aniston—one of the biggest TV and movie stars on the planet—never attended fashion’s biggest night? She’s been a staple at the Emmys, the Oscars, the Golden Globes, the SAG Awards, but never the Met Gala, the exclusive annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.

“Yes, I have [been invited],” Aniston confirms to Glamour for our September global cover story on the women of The Morning Show. The Emmy-winning actor would no doubt stun in whatever look she’d choose, but says that the thought of posing on and walking those iconic stairs “overwhelms me.”

“I’m a jeans and flip-flop and tank top kind of girl,” Aniston continues. “I love dressing up too, but, for me, it’s a mental game of…put on a fancy dress, makeup, get your hair all purdy and go sit in a big room with your peers. [And yes,] everyone’s there to celebrate each other and have some fun, but I get nervous.”

It’s understandable. And Aniston’s not alone. Meryl Streep, Emma Thompson, Angelina Jolie, Annette Bening, and many more A-listers (including, interestedly enough, Brad Pitt) have never attended the annual gala chaired, of course, by Condé Nast Chief Content Office and Vogue Global Editorial Director, Anna Wintour.

“I even get a little anxious about public speaking, especially over the years of having your words twisted and taken out of context,” Aniston says. “So, I find myself almost hall monitoring myself in a weird way.”

Even so, Aniston says she still appreciates the red carpet, even if her Morning Show character, Alex Levy, has a certain disdain for it. “I don’t feel [the same way Alex does].” Still, “some people find it like a sport where they build you up and then they love to tear you down. What’s the reason why people do it? Who knows? But I just try as best I can [to tune it out] because it doesn’t do you any good.”

Still, that’s not to say Aniston won’t ever walk those famous stairs. But her decision not to attend is one of the many reasons we love the former Friends star; she stays true to herself, flip flops and all.

Why Every Millennial Woman You Know Is Suddenly Watching ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’

by jummy84 September 2, 2025
written by jummy84

What’s going on here? Have we all been brainwashed in some kind of evil genius, Josie and the Pussycats-inspired scheme? Or is this just one of those timeless stories that has somehow tapped into a set of universal truths that perfectly capture what it means to be human? As someone who was extremely skeptical at first (did I mention that the main character is called Belly?), I can now confidently say I believe it to be the latter. That, and the way the show manages to seamlessly blend nostalgia with romantic intensity, offering a comforting kind of escapism that reminds us all of how we behaved at that age.

Despite being a current show, I do think there’s something definitively millennial—both tonally and plot-wise—about the whole thing. Consider the TV shows and films we were raised on: Twilight, The Vampire Diaries, The OC, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill… love triangles (particularly between two brothers) were an integral part of our cultural diet. “It becomes a real talking point of ‘which team are you on?’ and makes you much more invested in the characters because you’re rooting for your ‘team,’” says Holly, 30.

It’s worth pointing out, too, that Han’s books were first published in 2009, 2010, and 2011—so, when a lot of millennials were teenagers. “It reminds me of being that age and all of the comfort teenage shows and rom-coms I loved,” adds Holly. “With the current state of the world, maybe a lot of us want to feel like we’re 16 again.”

It’s mammoth success could also be partly attributed to the fact that episodes are released weekly rather than all at once—a rare but clever tactic that both builds anticipation and harks back to how shows operated when we were younger. “Back then, we had to wait weeks to find out what was going to happen in our favorite programs,” says Jenna, 40. “And in the meantime, we’re having conversations with people, seeing reactions online, and experiencing delayed gratification rather than binging in a day. Watching new episodes becomes an occasion.”

Then there’s the soundtrack, which has thus far featured no fewer than 20 Taylor Swift songs across the three seasons, not to mention tracks by Olivia Rodrigo, Phoebe Bridgers, and Gracie Abrams. All of this ensures that sonically, the series taps into a wider sad-girl musical universe that is characterized by the same themes and feelings as the show: longing, heartache, and seductive melancholia. Fans are even speculating that Swift may drop the first single from her upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl, in the series finale—which seems deranged, but weirder things have happened.

9 Beauty Trends Editors Predict Will Dominate NYFW 2025

by jummy84 September 2, 2025
written by jummy84

We beauty editors pride ourselves on being trend savants. (Forecasters, if we’re feeling fancy.) New York Fashion Week is one of our favorite places to track existing trends and spot those emerging, which happens to kick off in just 9 days on September 11. By the power vested in us by our backstage passes, we’re often the first to see what’s going down the runway—hair, makeup, collections, and all—giving us an early look at the finished ensembles before even the star-studded crowds can catch a glimpse.

Though the mazes of runway shows and traffic-stopping street style fashion are undoubtedly the main event, the backstage flurry of powder, hair spray, and glitter eye shadow is an opulent feast for the eyes that we can’t digest fast enough. But before we enter a week of subhuman show-hopping, we peered into our collective crystal ball (ahem, the beauty Slack channel) to guesstimate which makeup, hair, and nail trends we predict will take over the fashion scene this September—and consequently influence how beauty will evolve for S/S 26.

Below, 9 beauty trends we’ll be pleased, but not surprised, to see sweeping the fashionable faces of NYFW in a little over a week.

Modern Grunge Makeup

“Autumn is synonymous with darker, more matte-ified makeup looks in the same way it’s synonymous with falling leaves and pumpkin spice lattes. It’s the natural way. After a summer spent focusing on sheer, bright, and glowing looks, the pendulum is sure to swing the opposite way—espresso brown eye shadow, burgundy nails, crimson lips…you name it. However, unlike the “quiet luxury” looks that have ruled the runways in recent years (and focused on a polished and perfected aesthetic), I think we’ll see a return to grunge makeup at NYFW.

“I’m not talking about the bold grunge makeup of the ’90s, though. I’m talking about a softer, smokier, and more modern take on it. Think a color palette that emphasizes soft gray, cool plum, and neutral brown shades rather than straight-up nobsidian and onyx. This ‘grown-up grunge’ aesthetic, as I’m calling it, is no doubt right in line with Jenna Ortega’s incredible Wednesday press tour looks.” – Kaitlyn McLintock, beauty editor

“There’s no debate that hair jewelry has been around for quite some time, but I’m expecting a creative reinvention of runway hairstyles involving fashion elements. With the rise of maximalist, hyperpersonal RTW style, we’ve seen more fashionable liberties taken with hair in general—like cuffs decorating ponytails and gold-buttoned bubble braids à la Blazé Milano’s F/W 25 show. Take the comb necklace trend popularized by The Row, for example: Hair is taking center stage, and I’m not mad about it. I hope to see embroidery thread woven into braids, belted ponytails, and so many more ‘clothing’ details that truly do make the hair the outfit.” – Alyssa Brascia, associate beauty editor

The Return to “Real” Lipstick

“So far, 2025 has been all about sheer, glossy, and glow-boosting lip colors. I’ve been thinking a lot about where we go from here. What’s next? No lip color at all? I’m betting my bottom dollar that we’ll see a return to ‘real’ lipstick. In other words, we’ll see more full-coverage formulas in either matte or satin finishes (AKA the formulas many of us left behind pre-2020). Perhaps it will encourage the fashion crowd to dust off their old, tried-and-true bullets of MAC, Revlon, and Charlotte Tilbury. I can’t help but think this is the way forward, especially after Louis Vuitton just launched luxe, pigmented lipsticks, and Kylie Jenner recently resurrected her iconic Lip Kits. I’m not mad about it. I have a whole bag of full-coverage formulas on standby.” – McLintock
