Hot Pilates Founder Shannon Nadj Shares the Rituals Keeping Her and Hollywood’s It-Girls Grounded and Glowing

Well-rounded wellness is in. Hot Pilates founder Shannon Nadj sat down with ET to mark the 11th anniversary of her heated Pilates studio in West Hollywood, California, and to share the rituals she’s prioritizing as she heads into 2026.

The celebrity instructor behind the sculpted silhouettes of Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner, Shay Mitchell, Lori Harvey, Sofia Richie, and Selena Gomez has been expanding her approach to offer a true mind-body-soul destination.

“We truly believe workouts are just one part of the bigger picture when it comes to wellness. One of the core principles of Pilates is the mind-body connection, which to me means nurturing our inner world just as much as our outer one,” Nadj explains.

Lately, her focus has shifted towards pairing movement with restorative rituals by offering sound baths and co-hosting events with lymphatic drainage hot spot Sous La Los Angeles, conveniently located right next door to her heated and reformer Pilates spaces.

“I’ve been taking care of my mental health by focusing on breath work, meditation, and slowing down. … Sound baths support our well-being on a cellular level, while services like those from Sous La align with our philosophy of intentional self-care.”

Still, Nadj never strays far from the signature sweat and glow that put her fitness destination on the map.

“Prioritizing movement helps us age gracefully and stay strong enough to keep doing the things that bring us joy. Beyond the physical benefits, maintaining a routine builds discipline, and over time, that turns into confidence we can carry with us far beyond our workouts. … Plus, releasing endorphins is like getting a natural boost from our body’s own pharmacy.”

Right now, that means prioritizing low-impact, high-reward workouts that deliver strength without spiking stress.

“I’m currently loving low cortisol workouts with heated mat Pilates and reformer classes,” she says.

And once she leaves, Nadj’s commitment doesn’t slow down. Instead, it simply shifts into a cozier version of TLC.

Jesse Alexander

“I use the hyperbaric chamber at Remedy Place, Normatec compression boots a few times a week to help with inflammation, and do dry brushing in the winter to help with circulation and dry skin. For my face, I use the Celluma LED red light therapy mask, and I keep a humidifier in each room because it gets so dry in L.A.”

The Pilates pro is equally intentional about how she fuels her body.

“I follow an anti-inflammatory meal plan and take TruNiagen supplements and Peptides BPC157 at Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery Group for inflammation and muscle tissue recovery. I’ve never felt better,” she shares.

At the time, Sanjay was just 18 years old. In an old interview with one of the media houses, Zarine fondly recalled their first date on a beach, describing how Sanjay arrived in a white shirt and trousers, wearing Kolhapuri slippers and holding a book by Tolstoy. She remembered being captivated by his charm as he spoke about his life. The very next day, Sanjay proposed to her. Zarine had playfully replied, *“If I still have feelings for you after a year, I will!” That witty answer won Sanjay’s heart, and a year later, the two tied the knot in 1966.

13 Samhain Rituals From Modern-Day Witches

by jummy84 October 23, 2025
written by jummy84

The witch’s new year is upon us! Samhain, the ancient Gaelic festival that marks the end of the Celtic year, occurs from October 31 to the November 1. Also known as the birth of Halloween, it’s a time when the veil between the supernatural and the physical world thins—and a time to honor the cycle of life, death, and renewal. Coinciding with the harvest and the transition from the light-filled days of summer into the darker days of fall, the pagan holiday urges us to reflect on the past, connect with spirits, celebrate loved ones (both living and deceased), and plan how we will enrich our lives moving forward.

There are many ways to partake in Samhain. Traditionally, many choose to make ancestral altars for the departed, leave offerings, and feast with the spirits—but, as this is such a magical time, aligning with a ritual that speaks to you is essential. To that end, there is no wrong or right way to observe Samhain; you should do what speaks to your heart. However, it never hurts to follow a few suggestions from the experts—not only to nudge you in the right direction, but also to help you understand the true importance of the witchy “high holiday” known as a “greater sabbat.” Here, 13 modern witches share 13 unique rituals for honoring the spirit of Samhain in style.

13 Samhain rituals

1. Release the past

Since Samhain is meant to be a time for contemplation, the focus is on releasing the past and tending to the present. “As the veil thins, prepare an altar with black candles, apples, and a bowl of water to honor the ancestors. Light incense and whisper the names of those who came before you. Reflect on what must die and what is ready to be reborn. Write what you’re releasing on paper, then safely burn it. Sip spiced wine or tea as you gaze into the flame, allowing visions and guidance to rise from the shadows. The new year begins in the dark,” says Bri Luna, founder of The Hoodwitch and author of Blood Sex Magic: Everyday Magic for the Modern Mystic.

2. Manifest the future

Since the energy is intensely magnified, we can use divination to manifest and claim insights through tarot. “Place the Death card from your tarot deck before you and spend a few quiet moments gazing at the imagery, reflecting on what cycles are ready to end and what transformation is calling you forward,” recommends Sarah Potter, author of Sober Magic: Using the Tarot and Ritual in Your Journey Away from Drinking. “Journal any insights that arise. Next, write down what you’re ready to release on slips of paper—old patterns, fears, or habits—and burn them one by one in a fireproof dish, letting the smoke carry those energies into the night. Soften your gaze into a bowl of water or a mirror to cross the veil and invite messages from ancestors or spirit allies, trusting any sensations or symbols that emerge. To close, hold the Death card to your heart, speak of an intention for the year ahead, and blow out the candle, sealing the ritual.”

3. Honor nature

Pay homage to nature is another Samhain tradition. Thus, Nicole Rallis, floral artist at Leila + Olive, suggests tending to a garden and focusing on the future. “I gather an altar from three categories of autumn botanicals: a flower, an herb, and a fruit. Dahlias, amaranth, and roses are potent options, but [for me] this year’s ritual holds blooms of anemone, a mythic sign of sacrifice to honor the resilience of those who’ve passed and to strengthen the will of the living; rosemary herbs to reflect memories, both bitter ones to dissolve and sweeter ones to envision; and pomegranate to connect cycles of loss and rebirth. Setting these garden intentions by a window, I ponder the portal between past and future seasons to come.”

4. Set an extra place

Having a formal “dumb dinner”—where one eats in silence and has a place setting for the deceased at the table—on Samhain is a quintessential way to commemorate the dead. “On the night itself, I hold a silent meal to honor those who’ve passed. One extra place is set at the table, with a candle to guide them and a glass of water as offering. The intentionally-prepared meal is eaten in silence, an offering of presence rather than words. In that stillness, memory feels closer, the air weighted with recognition and grace,” states Corbin Chamberlin, founder of the ritual brand Sage & Salt. You can even eat the food backwards to call in your future spouse, like they did in Victorian times.

5. Feast with the spirits

Satisfying the spirits’ thirst for energy and attention shows them that we know they are another form of life force that requires fuel. Marshall WSL, author of Cunning Words: a Grimoire of Tales and Magic, suggests having a feast for the spirits to “satiate their hunger for life and experience.” He says to offer a plate of dark bread to the spirits and a glass of red wine and say the following words:

Happy Halloween! Happy Samhain! Happy All Hallows’ Eve! The dead are alive, the veil is thin, we don masks to deceive. A liminal time, the witches’ new year, high magic do we weave. The devil dances, the Witch mother does sing, all one must do is believe. We break the bread, we sip the wine, hallowed blessings we receive. And for the spirits, of above and below, an offering we leave.

6. Offer sweets

Speaking of offerings, there are plenty of traditional Samhain treats which, traditionally, were used as “an acknowledgment and a way to give thanks for the abundance you receive throughout the year,” says writer, death doula, and tarot reader Marguerite Recupero, who therefore recommends baking “bread or offer sweet treats to your ancestors in thanks.”

In Ireland, this was done by baking a loaf of Barmbrack bread, or “speckled fruit loaf,” which was also used to fortune-tell with a variety of charms such as rings (foretelling marriage), coins (foretelling abundance), cloth (foretelling bad luck), and dried peas (foretelling singledom) baked into the bread. In Medieval England, when Samhain merged with All Saints Day thanks to the Catholic Church, soul cakes were given out to “soulers” who went door-to-door in an early version of trick-or treating.

7. Strengthen intuition

We all become more psychic this time of year, leading to enhanced awareness of our subconscious. “Dreams may become more vivid in the days surrounding this mystical holiday,” notes psychic Renee Watt. “Strengthen your ability to connect with the great beyond by making your own dream satchel. You’ll need a small mesh or organza bag, preferably in white, lavender, or light blue. Fill your bag with herbs such as rosemary, lavender, bay, or thyme, in addition to clear, blue, or purple crystals. Amethyst, quartz, angelite, kyanite, or selenite are all great options.” She recommends keeping a journal to note the visions that arise, help interpret their meaning, and to check-in with them in the future.

8. Call in protection

“Samhain is a gateway for all spirits to come through, even the mischievous ones, so spiritual protection is of utmost importance,” explains witch and psychic Michael Cardenas of Olde Ways. He suggests lighting “two candles dressed in patchouli oil; a white one for purity and a black one for protection. Burn dried rosemary throughout your home and set outside to ward off lower vibrational spirits. Wash your doors and threshold with salt water to set strong psychic boundaries against harmful energies. When complete, sit in silence visualizing yourself surrounded in white light.”

9. Dress the part

Wearing a costume is another form of protection because it hides your true identity. Historically, people disguised themselves in mystical and mythical ensembles time of year in order to confuse ghosts and deter them from wreaking havoc; the Celts even carved faces into vegetables to keep the entities away from their food.

10. Create a magic circle

Another way to protect yourself from spirits is by creating a safe haven in the form of a magic circle. “A magic circle performs many functions: to bind a spirit, to circumscribe ritual space, and to call upon the aid of sacred names and glyphs. While the elaborately constructed ritual circles of ceremonial magicians are the most iconic, simpler techniques can be found as far back as ancient Mesopotamia, where ritual circles were drawn in barley flour,” says Melissa Madara, author of The Witch’s Workshop: A Guide to Crafting Your Own Magical Tools.

11. Clear the cobwebs

The witch’s new year calls for a spiritual refresh, which is why Fernando Salinas opts to remove clutter and clear stale energy. “I’ll bless my broom (or besom, if you have one) by rubbing the bristles with an essential oil such as orange oil or a road-opening oil to bring good energy to my actions. Finally, I’ll get a rag and some magic water (like full moon blessed water) and wipe clean the door jambs to make sure blessings can find their way in.”

12. Awaken the body

Opening the body and awakening the senses via movement and self-care is another form of cleansing that’s imperative for chakra healing and attunement. “My Samhain ritual occurs in any body of warm and wet water,” explains Monisha Holmes. “Safely dancing and gently stretching with my window open for the sage to flow through the air helps make my senses hot and steamy for winter.”

13. Build an altar

Calling in one’s ancestors and commemorating their legacy is one of the most time-honored Samhain rituals; looking to our roots helps protect our energy. Creating an ancestral altar helps forge the bridge between the living world and the dead. “My process involves choosing a space differently from the one I use for my everyday altar,” says Narayana Montufar, author of Written in Your Stars: Use Your Saturn Return, Pluto Square, and Other Planetary Cycles to Become Your Best Self. “I choose a space that, in some form, matches the big and loving energy I want to bring. Before setting the altar, I clear the space physically and energetically, with incense or palo santo, making sure I clear the corners of the room as well. Next, I lay a see-through backdrop underneath candles, marigolds, crystals, animal spirits and totems, as well as objects and pictures that remind me of my ancestors.”

From tea rituals to baking: 6 very simple mindful activities to calm the mind

by jummy84 October 11, 2025
written by jummy84

When life becomes loud and uncertain, simple daily living habits can help slow the mind down. Many successful people spend time on simple pastimes to find some peace of mind and keep their focus. Such leisure activities usually don’t take up a huge amount of time or energy, but they can certainly help in maintaining some level of calm and equilibrium.

Experts recommend that engaging in short, mindful practices can alleviate stress and compartmentalize the ordinary stress of life into manageable and comfortable components.

Finding calm in simple habits

The following are some simple activities to calm your mind, according to Healthline.com.

Chopping therapy: Chopping or cooking vegetables can be a calming experience. The act of slicing and producing food allows you to be calm and reflective. It is not about the food itself; the focus is fluid and intentional.

Tea rituals: Tea preparation rituals also allow us to slow down. Boiling water, steeping the tea leaves, and waiting for the right sipping temperature help with mindfulness and the present moment. Watching the steam rise brings our thoughts and focus away from stress or tension to presence or stillness. Loose-leaf teas from either green or oolong are often selected for their soothing properties.

Gardening: This additional activity can really help bring us back into nature. Many people who garden, teach, and work with herbs like basil, mint, or thyme provide a sense of accomplishment and peace. The process of developing a plant over time illustrates the virtue of being patient to receive results.

Penning the thoughts: Another great method to declutter your mind is by writing down your thoughts in a journal or using handwritten notes. Writing down thoughts will help you unpack emotions and organize busy thoughts.

Tech-free walks: Taking a walk without your cell phone or listening to music through headphones allows you to declutter as well, while you walk, and let your mind just rest. Your brain might be in a good position to slow down and let the creative juices flow!

Food art and baking: For some, sketching food or baking may be satisfying to aid in the journaling and decluttering process. The act of drawing your meal or kneading that piece of dough allows you to focus and engage with the larger picture.

Maheep Kapoor stepped up for some rituals for niece Anshula Kapoor’s engagement to Rohan Thakkar, earning praise from the internet.

Anshula Kapoor, the daughter of filmmaker Boney Kapoor and sister of actor Arjun Kapoor, got engaged to her longtime boyfriend Rohan Thakkar recently. On Saturday, Anshula shared pictures from their traditional god dharna ceremony, a form of engagement. The intimate affair was attended by their families and close friends.

Maheep Kapoor, the wife of Boney Kapoor’s youngest brother, Sanjay Kapoor, shared a bunch of pictures and videos of herself from the family function, and one of them caught the eye of fans on social media.

The video shows Maheep performing a tel madha ritual with Anshula and Rohan. This ritual is usually performed by older women from the bride and groom’s families, including the mother, grandmother, aunts, and sisters-in-law. The clip was shared on social media, with many praising Maheep for performing ‘mom duties’ for Anshula in the absence of her mother, producer Mona Shourie Kapoor, who died in 2012.

The internet reacts

“Maheep doing mom duties in Anshula’s roka,” wrote one Redditor. Another added, “Anshula and Arjun have repeatedly said how Sanjay and Maheep pretty much brought them up after Boney left. Arjun has made no secret of the fact that Sanjay became a father figure to him despite being young himself.” One comment praised Maheep: “Warms my heart. More power to Maheep. What Arjun and Anshula had gone through was terrible. Sonam dislikes everything that went down and has been a rock to Arjun growing up. And Maheep is such a good mommy for being by them.” Maheep and Sanjay are particularly close to Anshula and Arjun, with the actor having credited Sanjay for being a second father to him.

Anshula and Rohan’s engagement was also attended by the other members of the family, including Anil Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Harshvardhan Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor, Shanaya Kapoor, as well as friends.

The ninth form of Goddess Durga, Maa Siddhidatri, is worshipped on the final day of Navratri. Revered as the bestower of supernatural powers and spiritual wisdom, she is associated with the colour orange and pink. Devotees believe that worshipping her while wearing this colour brings prosperity, abundance and inner strength.

Maa Durga’s devotees celebrate the ninth day of Navratri as Maha Navami, which is one of the most important days of the auspicious festival of Navratri. This year, Navami falls on October 1. Bengalis celebrate Navami on the fourth day of Durga Puja.

Date and Time for Navmi:

Navami Tithi Begins – September 30, 2025 – 06:06 PM

Navami Tithi Ends – October 1, 2025 – 07:01 PM

Significance

Maha Navami celebrates the triumph of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura. Across the nine days of Navratri, devotees worship the nine forms of Durga, known as Navdurga. On the ninth day, prayers are dedicated to Maa Siddhidatri.

Who is Maa Siddhidatri?

Maa Siddhidatri, the ninth form of Durga, is worshipped on the final day of Navratri. According to Hindu mythology, when the universe was created, Lord Rudra invoked Adi-Parashakti, the supreme Goddess of Power, who had no form at the time. She then manifested as Siddhidatri from the left half of Lord Shiva, leading to his form as Ardha-Narishwar.

Maa Siddhidatri governs planet Ketu, providing it with energy and direction. She is regarded as the Goddess who possesses and grants all Siddhis (spiritual powers or accomplishments) to her devotees. These include the eight Siddhis: Anima, Mahima, Prapti, Prakamya, Garima, Laghima, Ishitva and Vashitva. It is believed that even Lord Shiva attained all his Siddhis through her blessings.

She is also revered as the remover of ignorance, bestowing wisdom and clarity upon her devotees. Depicted seated on a lotus and riding a lion, Maa Siddhidatri holds a mace and Sudarshan chakra in her right hands, and a lotus and shankh in her left. She is worshipped by Gandharvas, Yakshas, Siddhas and even Asuras, who gather around her divine presence.

Rituals to perform

Devotees should wake up early on Navami tithi and begin the day with a mahasnan. They should wear new and clean clothes, and bathe the idol of Maa Durga and Maa Siddhidatri with Gangajal. Offer her white garments, bathe her and offer sweets, dry fruits, fruits and white flowers.

Maa Siddhidatri likes Night Blooming Jasmine (Raat Ki Rani) and is said to be fond of seasonal fruits, pudi, kheer, chana, coconut and halwa hence, one should offer these items as bhog to please her. Apart from praying to Maa Siddhidatri, devotees should also perform Kanya Pujan/Kanjak on Navami as it holds much significance on Namai tithi.

Makeup Mantras: Shweta Tripathi reveals skincare rituals at 40, says no products can help without these 3 habits

by jummy84 September 8, 2025
written by jummy84

Shweta Tripathi leaves jaws dropped whenever she says she is 40 years old! Known for her versatile roles in Masaan and Mirzapur, the actor is admired for her fresh-faced charm and unapologetic authenticity. In HT Lifestyle’s Makeup Mantras, Shweta opens up about her beauty routine, favourite products, and why she believes beauty begins with what you feed your body and mind.

Shweta Tripathi says be it makeup or skincare, she likes it natural!(Instagram)

Q. You’re known for your youthful glow. What’s your skincare mantra for healthy skin?

Shweta Tripathi: Rely on products, but more importantly rely on what you put in your system. It is about three things: the food and drinks you consume, the workout you do, and the kind of thoughts you have. When I talk about diet, I don’t mean follow fad diets. I’m a lover of homemade food. Whether I go on set, for promotions or even if I’m staying at a hotel, I speak to the chef and request them to make the food the way they make it at their home because then they use less butter and oil. I believe the simpler, the better. I was a non-vegetarian my entire life. Now for the past two years, I’ve been a vegetarian.

So, I truly believe that products have their own importance, they definitely have an impact and make a difference. But what you eat and drink affects your skin a lot. Plus, ‘what are your thoughts’? We might accept it or not according to our convenience, but everything that we think or feel impacts hair and skin. Stress, for example. You can use the best and most expensive of products containing fancy ingredients, but if our thoughts are not in the right direction, no products can help you. What we need to focus on is internal.

Exercising is very important. Post-workout glow is the best skincare ritual we can do for ourselves. Choose whatever-dance, strength training or yoga- just remember that discipline in whatever way, will always pay off.

Q. What’s are some beauty rituals you swear every day?

Shweta Tripathi: I have dry skin, so moisturising is very important for me. There are some days that I get lazy and I don’t wash my face. So, I’ve taken up a 30-day challenge where I will be doing my skincare routine every day! I believe knowing your skin type is very important, because if you’re using the wrong products, it’s not good for you. You should know your skin type and then do patch tests to see how your skin reacts to it. No matter who is the influencer, brand ambassador or whose marketing campaign it is, how your skin reacts to a product is most important before you use something.

Q. What’s your go-to thing every morning?

Shweta Tripathi: Oil pulling! This Ayurvedic practice somehow works magically for me, and my skin also responds well to it. Even product-wise, I want to go back to Ayurveda, and products from our soil. If you’re going to the hills, use the oil from there. If you’re going to the south, use the oil from there. I want to switch to more home remedies. These are more time-consuming, so I’m trying to find people who can make fresh home remedies for skincare.

Q. Any DIY or homegrown beauty hacks you picked up from your mom or grandmom?

Shweta Tripathi: My mother used to make a pack with orange peels and moong dal, which felt very good on the skin. We should stay connected to these home remedies that have been passed down from generations.

Q. Do you believe in ‘skin fasting’ — going completely product-free sometimes?

Shweta Tripathi: When I’m lazy, I feel it’s skin fasting! After a shoot, especially something that may be glamorous or fashionable, I avoid overloading my skin with anything. I just make sure I cleanse it properly. That is my way of skin fasting. In my daily life, I don’t even use a BB cream. I just moisturize my skin, use a sunscreen, blush and do my eyebrows. I do think a little gap for skin is great. Earlier, I was very fond of nail paint. But then again, I like my skin, my nails, my hair and everything else to breathe. So, if you’re fond of using all those products, just keep doing detox for skin and nails. That’s about it. Other than that, I don’t use any other product.

I find natural beautiful. It boosts my confidence because if I’m okay being how I am naturally, then by doing hair and makeup, you look amazing. It is important to feel comfortable in your own skin. The more we make it a part of our everyday habit, the more it will help us.

Q. What’s in your 5-minute makeup routine?

Shweta Tripathi: I get ready in 5 minutes all the time! I don’t blow dry my hair. When I cleanse my face, I just moisturise it, I do my eyebrows and my blush, because I like that flushed skin look. Skin also changes with age and time. I’ve always had dry skin. But now, I get pimples. And there are some marks that are there on my face. But I don’t let it bother me. If there’s a shoot, apply makeup. But off screen, I believe in the mantra, ‘What you make a big deal of, will be a big deal’. So I just let it be as it is.

Q. Does makeup has the power to change your mood?

Shweta Tripathi: There is no denying that. Makeup does change your mood. It changes how you look. It changes how you feel. For me, at least.

Q. Have you ever had a makeup mishap that later turned into a funny memory?

Shweta Tripathi: Once I did a makeup which did not turn out how I thought. I did a goth look. Cheeta (my husband SlowCheeta) still makes fun of it. But I am okay with that. You can’t do a 10-on-10 every time. Most of the time, there will be hits. Once or twice, there will be misses. You should not put so much pressure on yourself or your team.

Q. What’s your go-to confidence-boosting ritual on days when you don’t feel your best?

Shweta Tripathi: Somehow, it’s using a blush. It really lifts me up. I like soft looks!

BuDhaGirl’s Jessica Jesse Is Making Mindfulness Chic With Bangles That Double as Daily Rituals

Baubles with significance! When Jessica Jesse launched her jewelry line BuDhaGirl in 2013, she wanted to create more than just arm candy — and there’s a meaningful reason why.

The idea first sparked when the founder returned from a trip to ancient monasteries in Thailand, with wrists stacked in simple gold plastic bracelets.

“I began to wonder if these little bangles could become daily companions for mindfulness and reminders to pause, breathe, and be present. … It wasn’t about long hours of meditation. It was about consistency, intention, and grace,” she tells ET.

That thought turned into her cult-favorite All Weather Bangles® — handcrafted by artisans in Thailand — plus, the idea of Mindful Glamour®, a philosophy that embraces beauty and presence equally.

“A woman can be radiant on the outside, while living a deeply contemplative life within,” the creative director explains.

“I’ve never believed the stereotype that depth only comes in granola clothes or austere simplicity. … It is the refusal to choose between beauty and presence.”

The CEO’s own routines reflect that same balance. Each morning begins by reciting a personal mantra, lighting a candle, setting wishes, reading, and sipping a cup of lemon water or tea.

From there comes the ritual of adornment.

“I set my intentions as I put on each bangle. … I slip them onto my wrist and pause and breathe. … My first two bangles are always my children, and others may hold gratitude, focus, love, or compassion.”

And Jesse carries that energy into the rest of her day.

“Everything holds the potential to be sacred if we choose to be fully present. … I approach each act with intention whether it’s thanking my car before I drive, or the act of eating, I approach each with intention.”
