Letterboxd VOD Platform Video Store Reveals First Films

by jummy84 December 8, 2025
written by jummy84

After years of documenting the viewing habits of cinephiles everywhere, Letterboxd is entering the distribution world. On December 10, the site will launch Video Store, a new VOD platform that allows users to rent a curated selection of movies curated by the Letterboxd team.

With Video Store debuting on Wednesday, Letterboxd has answered some of our questions about the previously announced platform. Video Store will use a transactional video-on-demand (TVOD) model, in which users pay to watch individual movies without any subscription fee. The product will launch in 23 countries, and the app will be available on iOS, Android, web browsers, and a variety of smart TVs.

'Cronos' (1993)

The first nine films will be arranged into two “shelves”: Unreleased Gems, consisting of recent festival favorites that previously did not have distribution; and Lost & Found, which is comprised of previously lost or newly restored classics.

Notable titles include Todd Haynes’ 1991 debut feature “Poison,” Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s “Before We Vanish,” and 2025 SXSW premiere “It Ends.”

“Weʼre incredibly proud of what we and our community have built,ˮ Letterboxd CEO and co-founder Matthew Buchanan said in a statement. “We take their lead, and believe that has been integral to Letterboxdʼs success. They tell us what’s really happening — a 1980s action film suddenly trending, a festival title from two years ago still being added to watchlists.”

He continued, “Video Store lets us act on that real demand, whether itʼs helping a distributor unlock value from a forgotten gem in its vault or giving a filmmaker direct access to the audience theyʼve been building on our platform. Itʼs our way of saying to the industry: letʼs harness this interest to get films to the people who want them most.ˮ

Keep reading for the full slate of titles launching on Video Store, with language provided by Letterboxd.

UNRELEASED GEMS

“It Ends” (2025) – Director Alexander Ullom’s directorial debut about recent grads trapped on an infinite, nightmarish backroad made waves when it premiered at SXSW 2025, going on to win Best First Feature at Fantasia International Film Festival and the Narrative Feature Grand Jury Award at the Atlanta Film Festival.

“Sore: A Wife from the Future” (2025) – Director Yandy Laurens’ inventive time-loop sci-fi romance about a woman who travels back in time to change her husband’s destiny received eight nominations at the 2025 Indonesian Film Festival, including Best Picture, and has been selected as Indonesia’s submission for the Best International Feature Film for the upcoming Academy Awards.

“Kennedy” (2023) – Anurag Kashyap’s neo-noir thriller following a presumed-dead insomniac ex-cop seeking redemption in Mumbai’s dark streets premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023, going on to screen at over twenty international festivals.

“The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo” (2025) – Director Diego Céspedes’ feature debut about an eleven-year-old girl protecting her town’s queer community from superstitious panic won the Un Certain Regard Prize at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and has been selected as Chile’s submission for the Best International Feature Film for the upcoming Academy Awards.

LOST & FOUND

“Tiger on the Beat” (1988) – This legendary 1988 action-comedy starring Chow Yun-Fat and directed by Lau Kar-Leung remains a beloved classic of Hong Kong cinema. For most of the world, this is the first opportunity to see the new 4K restoration—a digital exclusive to Letterboxd at launch.

“Kisapmata” (1981) – Considered one of the greatest Filipino films of all time, Mike de Leon’s masterpiece about a young woman living under her domineering father’s suffocating control won ten awards at the 1981 Metro Manila Film Festival including Best Film and screened at Cannes. This brand new 4K restoration premieres digitally, celebrating the late director’s uncompromising vision that faced censorship under the Marcos regime.

“It Must Be Heaven” (2019) – This comedy won both the Special Mention from the Main Competition Jury and FIPRESCI Prize at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, but its theatrical release was delayed for over a year due to the pandemic, limiting its reach despite widespread praise. . Suleiman’s distinctive visual satire continues his acclaimed tradition of observational comedy that speaks to universal themes of displacement and belonging.

“Poison” (1991) – This groundbreaking film won the Grand Jury Prize at the 1991 Sundance Film Festival and became a lightning rod in the culture wars, with conservative politicians attempting to defund the NEA over its support. The first feature from future Oscar nominee Todd Haynes established him as a fearless voice in independent cinema.

“Before We Vanish” (2017) – Based on a cult Japanese stage play, master filmmaker Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s alien invasion story screened in Un Certain Regard at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, showcasing the acclaimed director’s distinctive take on the genre.

bitchy | ‘Wanted’ director on his new AI platform, Stanislavski, ‘Yes, it will take jobs’

Timur Bekmambetov is a Kazakh-Russian filmmaker who made the Angelina Jolie action movie Wanted in 2008. What’s he been up to since then? Well, most of the intervening years – and about $5 million – have been spent developing a program to “train” AI “actors” in the art of Method acting. He’s even gone so far as to name the program Stanislavski, after the great Russian theater director and arguably the most consequential acting teacher in the history of the profession. But I guess as far as Bekmambetov is concerned, Stanislavski’s tomes on the art of acting may as well have been titled An Actor Preprograms, Building an Algorithm, and Creating a Code. Variety just interviewed Bekmambetov about his program (it physically pains me to refer to it as “Stanislavski”), and the article starts out waxing rhapsodic about a scene Bekmambetov “directed.” It was a nyet for me and CB and, curiously, the video has since been taken down. If you can stomach it, read on to see how Bekmambetov tries to spin this abomination into something positive:

“If a character is staring out a window with a sad look, I won’t just tell the AI, ‘He’s said,’” Bekmambetov, who is walking me through a demonstration of the tech on Zoom, explains. “In the prompt I’ll use the Stanislavski system and write something like ‘His dog died yesterday, and the sunset is reminding him of what it was like to play with his dog in the park.’”

“It’s not about what you want a character to do; it’s giving them a map for how to get there,” he adds.

But Bekmambetov’s product is about more than just delivering more authentic artificial performances. It helps create entire films and shows. To begin with, producers feed a script into the Stanislavski system and it breaks down the action into a series of suggested shots and sequences that will eventually be reshaped by filmmakers during production. The program also functions as an interface that allows the heads of different departments — from the cinematographer to the production designer to the editor — to interact on one platform, where they can share notes and feedback and also give the AI direction on how to fine-tune a film or show.

Bekmambetov spent roughly $5 million and more than a decade developing the technology and is aiming for a December launch. It arrives as Hollywood is fiercely debating the costs and benefits of AI: Studios and streamers hope it will help them slash budgets and work more efficiently, while actors, writers and other creative talent fear it will lead to fewer and fewer jobs. Bekmambetov acknowledges the disruptive ramifications of AI, but he’s a convert.

“It’s too late — AI is here to stay, so we have to train it responsibly,” Bekmambetov says. “Don’t think of AI as an angel or as the devil. Yes, it will take jobs, but what we need to focus on is how do we direct it and use it properly.”

…But even Bekmambetov is skeptical that AI actors will put flesh-and-blood performers permanently out of work.

“Someone like Angelina Jolie, you can instruct her, but there’s a magic there that can’t be entirely replicated,” he says. “Maybe actors will train their own AI models, which will allow them to work in different ways, but creative people can never be replaced.”

[From Variety via AOL]

With all due respect Mr. Bekmambetov, please f–k all the way off. This article was so infuriating to me that I’m at full blown Tasmanian Devil incredulity. These pro-AI people continuously say the right words – “creative people can never be replaced” – without accounting for how everything else they describe about the technology backs up the opposite argument. But I guess that’s fitting for people championing what is essentially a fancy schmancy tool for shortcutting the unglamorous work of creativity. Sure, Bekmambetov does acknowledge that AI will indeed take jobs away from humans, but the way he says it is so glib. He details how his program is a huge help to him as a director, and then casually says “Yes, it will take jobs” from actors and writers and other artists – but not his job. As for the program, I’d love for someone to explain the difference between that and good old animation. And no, it’s not actually teaching Method acting to AI – and I think Daniel Day-Lewis will back me up on that! When it comes down to it, it sounds like the project he’s spent 10+ years and $5 million developing is basically a glorified digital program for storyboarding. Which AGAIN is a HUMAN craft!!

👀 The director of WANTED calls it “Stanislavsky.” It’s a $5M AI that acts with emotion.

Is he saying move over, Brando … the next Method actor might not be human?

Event Tech Live partners with ReelFlow as the innovative interactive video platform joins the 2025 exhibitor lineup

by jummy84 October 31, 2025
written by jummy84

Event Tech Live (ETL) is thrilled to announce an exciting new partnership with ReelFlow, the interactive video platform transforming how event websites engage audiences. The ReelFlow team will be exhibiting at Event Tech Live on 12th & 13th November 2025 at Excel London.

Event websites face a familiar challenge: they need to serve multiple audiences – new and returning attendees exploring the agenda, sponsors and exhibitors evaluating opportunities and speakers preparing sessions. Static, text-heavy pages struggle to engage these visitors effectively, often leading to high drop-off before registration.

ReelFlow addresses this through interactive video experiences easily added to existing event websites. Attendees explore the agenda through guided video journeys showing relevant content based on their interests. Speakers introduce their sessions via short videos. Sponsors and exhibitors see exactly what value they’ll receive. Each visitor gets a self-guided video experience – whilst seeing and hearing from the real people behind the event.

The result: higher registration conversion, better-qualified attendees, and more engaged stakeholders. Event organisers can create these experiences in days rather than months, without specialist equipment or production expertise.

Adam Parry, co-founder of Event Tech Live, who has is using ReelFlow on the Event Tech Live website, shared:

“From the suggested flows and scripts, to the video creation and publishing – the entire process was super slick. Since going live, we’ve seen a strong interaction rate with ReelFlow on our site. Visitors are engaging with the content and spending more time exploring what the event offers. It’s helped us explain the event’s value in a way that static pages simply couldn’t.”

Chris Wickson, co-founder at ReelFlow, added:

“Event websites are critical touchpoints in the decision journey – potential attendees visit multiple times before committing to register. Each visit is an opportunity to build excitement, demonstrate value, and answer questions about what they’ll experience. We’re looking forward to showing the Event Tech Live community how interactive video can turn those visits into registrations, and help organisers create the engaging experiences their audiences expect.”

ReelFlow is particularly relevant for event organisers looking to improve registration conversion, better qualify attendees before the event, and create more engaging promotion experiences across their event website and landing pages.

Visit ReelFlow at Event Tech Live on 12th & 13th November 2025 at Excel London.

TikTok Is NOT the Leading Social Media Platform for Microdramas: Study

TikTok Is NOT the Leading Social Media Platform for Microdramas: Study

by jummy84 October 28, 2025
written by jummy84

TikTok, you’re on the clock.

A new study from Ampere Analysis has found that YouTube is the most popular social-media destination for viewers of microdramas, with nearly half (44 percent) of those who have consumed the trendy format doing so on YouTube. While vertical video may feel like the domain of TikTok (and to some degree it is: TikTok captures 38 percent of all microdrama views), YouTube’s sheer scale makes it so difficult to overcome. In September, YouTube accounted for 12.6 percent of all “TV” usage, according to Nielsen. Netflix was second with 8.3 percent — no one else claimed even five percent.

So, combined, YouTube and TikTok make up 82 percent of the microdrama viewership on social — Instagram is in there somewhere, trailer by X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Snapchat, Twitch and Threads. But who is watching these short-short drama episodes of 10 minutes or less? If not you, someone in the same room as you, statistically.

Twelve percent of internet users have consumed a microdrama on social media, Ampere found through a survey of more than 100,000 consumers. (Ampere polled 56,000 internet users aged 18-64, in two different waves, across 30 global markets.)

Leading shorts apps (and not social media ones) like DramaBox and ReelShorts have taken notice. Both are using social media platforms as distribution channels as well as feeder systems.

What should come as no surprise is the demo consuming these vertical videos. Viewers aged 18-34 are 21 percent more likely than the average viewer to have watched one of these “mini-dramas” in the past month. Nearly half (46 percent) of internet users that age watch microdramas.

The APAC (Asia-Pacific) region leads in consumption, which should also shock exactly no one. Nearly all of the existing microdrama platforms hail from China — the market is soon to be flooded with exceptions to that rule — but it is Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines, specifically, with the strongest engagement numbers.

Is Reddit Down Today? Why the Platform Isn’t Working Now – Hollywood Life

Amazon Web Services experienced a massive outage today, October 20, 2025, which prompted a domino effect among other online platforms. From Venmo to Snapchat, internet users complained they experiencing problems loading their accounts while Amazon tried to resolve the issue throughout the day. Even Reddit users complained of problems using their accounts.

Below, get an update on whether or not Reddit is back up and running for users amid the widespread AWS outage.

Is Reddit Still Down Today?

For some users, yes — Reddit is still not working for some people, according to Downdetector. The highest amount of complaints was at around 6:00 a.m. ET, then reports of outages decreased throughout the day. However, multiple customers were still complaining by 3:00 p.m. ET that their Reddit accounts were still glitching.

“I just wanted to edit a comment, and now I’m incapable of doing literally anything except for DMing people,” one person commented on Downdetector. Another person chimed in by writing, “Ugh, Reddit not working. My pictures on my posts are saying deleted.”

A third user went so far as to comment, “While AWS is down, we’re all land-locked.”

Investigating: We’re experiencing an elevated level of errors and are currently looking into the issue. https://t.co/6IyHu46clb

— Reddit Status (@redditstatus) October 20, 2025

Why Was Reddit Not Working?

Reddit seemingly wasn’t working for most of the day on October 20, 2025, because of the widespread AWS outage. Since Reddit has not publicly pointed to the AWS issue, it’s unclear what exactly caused the apparent problems that users reported.

On its official Reddit Status X account, the platform acknowledged the issue at around 6:30 a.m. ET. “Investigating: We’re experiencing an elevated level of errors and are currently looking into the issue.”

Multiple platforms including Venmo, Snapchat, Asana and the Ring Doorbell system all experienced errors today due to the AWS issue.

Who Owns Reddit?

Advance Publications, the parent company of media conglomerate Condé Nast, owns Reddit.

What Did the AWS Outage Affect?

The AWS outage seemed to hit the entire internet pretty hard. With the exception of social media platforms including Meta’s Facebook and Instagram and Elon Musk‘s X.com, the Amazon outage appeared to impact numerous online services. Even banks and airlines were affected.

Lokah OTT release: The latest Malayalam blockbuster, Lokah has crossed ₹300 crore at the box office. Film’s lead star Kalyani Priyadarshan took to social media to make the announcement on Tuesday morning, which was followed by yet another reveal: the OTT release plan.

Lokah on OTT: Kalyani Priyadarshani plays the lead in the movie.

Streaming app JioHotstar shared on social media that Lokah will be out on the platform soon. However, they did not reveal the release date. “The beginning of a new universe. Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra — coming soon on JioHotstar,” they shared with a poster of the movie.

Fans were excited to watch the film online. A person thanked producer Dulquer Salman for it. “Yesss finally …..thankyou @dqsalmaan @dqswayfarerfilms for this lovely gift,” they wrote. “Tell the date tell the date man,” said another. “Bro please put it in Hindi Language also,” requested a fan.

About Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra

Made under the banner of Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films, ‘Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra’ has been written and directed by Dominic Arun.

Actress Kalyani Priyadarshan plays the role of a superhero in the film. Naslen, Chandu Salimkumar, Arun Kurian and Sandy also play prominent roles in the movie.

‘Lokah Chapter 1’ was released in theatres on August 28, 2025. The film has garnered praise from critics and viewers after its release.

Sequel announced

Recently, Dulquer teased a sequel to the movie. In September, gave fans the first glimpse of ‘Lokah Chapter 2’ by sharing a video titled ‘When Legends Chill: Michaek x Charlie’. The movie is expected to centre around Tovino Thomas’s character, Chaatan, in the film.

The film’s teaser features a playful conversation between Tovino and Dulquer Salmaan, who was previously introduced as Odiyan in a social media post.

At one point, Tovino jokes with Dulquer, asking, “Why don’t you call me once in a while — in 50 years or even 100 years?” The banter continues as Tovino mentions that his brother is out now, unlike him, and could be violent.

He then asks Dulquer if he would come to help if called upon, to which Dulquer promptly says no. The light-hearted exchange ends with a brief glimpse of the much-anticipated second part of the ‘Lokah’ universe.

The sequel will be directed by Domic Arjun and will star Tovino Thomas in the lead role. Taking to his X handle, Wayfarer Films wrote, “Beyond myths. Beyond legends. A new chapter begins. #LokahChapter2 Starring Tovino Thomas. Written & Directed by Dominic Arun. Produced by Wayfarer Films.”

5 Signs You’ve Chosen the Right Event Tech Platform

by jummy84 October 2, 2025
written by jummy84

Event planners know the frustration: juggling multiple systems, dealing with unresponsive support, and watching engagement rates flatline despite your best efforts.

Switching event tech vendors is a hassle. But if your current platform is causing headaches, it is a necessary evil. Before you commit, look for these five signs to pick a platform that truly works for you.

1. Your Platform Scales With Your Needs

From small workshops to huge conferences, the right tech scales smoothly. It should let you activate only the tools you need. For a simple networking event, registration and an event app might be enough. For bigger, complex shows, add exhibitor management, lead capture, ecommerce, and analytics.

You shouldn’t pay for features you don’t need, or have to switch platforms as your events grow. Choose one platform that fits all your event sizes and works with your existing processes.

2. Integration Happens in Minutes, Not Months

Your event platform must connect easily with your existing tools. The best platforms offer pre-built integrations with popular CRMs, marketing automation tools, and payment processors.

Look for APIs that let your tech team connect custom systems without extensive development. If you spend weeks on integration projects, your platform works against you.

ImageImage

3. Personalised Experiences for Organisers and Attendees

Event tech that adapts to individual needs is the ultimate dream of every organiser. You benefit from drag-and-drop form builders, easy landing page templates, and event cloning to quickly build events without technical help. Attendees enjoy AI-driven personalization like smart matchmaking and targeted messages.

Everyone wins.

ImageImage

4. Your Brand Stays Front & Center

Cookie-cutter experiences don’t build memorable events. The right platform gives you complete design control to:

  • Create custom event websites, branded mobile apps, event badges, and virtual booths.
  • Match your corporate colors, upload custom graphics, and make every attendee interaction reflect your brand identity.

If your platform forces you into rigid templates, it limits your event’s impact.

5. Support Feels Like Partnership

Some vendors bog you down with endless calls and long waits. Your tech partner should fix issues fast, especially during events, and offer proactive support with dedicated managers. No waiting or passing you around.

A leading Canadian telecom company recently used vFairs to manage their 2,000+ person internal summit with 70+ sponsors. The platform’s adaptability showed through dynamic registration forms available in English and French, customised gamification features, and seamless sponsor lead capture.

The result?

They used the vFairs app for everything: engagement, networking, and games. The company praised vFairs’ flexible platform and responsive support team. Attendees called the event app ‘the easiest they’ve ever used’.

If your current platform checks these five boxes, you’re set for success. If not, it’s time for an upgrade.

Want to see vFairs adaptive event technology in action? Book a demo today.

Deradoorian Joins Spotify Exodus, Pulling Music From Platform

by jummy84 September 25, 2025
written by jummy84

Deradoorian is the latest artist to pull music from Spotify. The singer-songwriter and former Dirty Projectors member cited chief executive Daniel Ek’s weapons investments—the main motive for the recent exodus—and alluded to recent online content accusing the platform of expanding its music usage rights. Spotify clarified in a statement that Spotify for Artists terms have not changed, and said those terms do not govern artists’ music rights.

Many of Deradoorian’s albums have already been taken down from Spotify but, she noted, remain available to stream and buy elsewhere. Her statement begins, “Since Spotify came along, I have always felt skeptical and opposed to their platform. Because it became the norm, I felt like I had to just put up with it and take what I could get. Perhaps that was true more so in the nascent stages of my solo career, but it doesn’t feel that way now.” She added that Ek’s investment in the artificial-intelligence weapons contractor Helsing prompted her to dig into other issues around the platform, such as the way Spotify uses artists’ music. The “slow erosion,” she wrote, of “our perceived ownership over our music—and the way its profits were used—was now too egregious to ignore.” Deradoorian admitted she did not conduct intensive research but said, “We all know that Spotify practices bad business. So, I just made the choice to stop it.”

In an email, a Spotify spokesperson said: “You might be seeing some misinformation online about a ‘change’ to the Spotify for Artists’ Terms of Use. These claims are false.” The spokesperson clarified that confusion about music usage rights revolves around a phrase that appears prominently in its terms of use: “user content.” That refers not to artists’ music but to listener content: “things like listener-created playlist covers, podcast comments, and playlist titles,” according to the statement. Terms of use for listeners—not artists—were recently updated, the spokesperson added.

Last week, Massive Attack became the biggest artist yet to announce its departure from Spotify, primarily citing Ek’s investment in Helsing. They also shared a separate statement about joining No Music for Genocide, which calls for artists to geoblock their music in Israel. (Spotify for Artists has clarified that Helsing is not involved in Gaza.) The band joined an exodus that includes Hotline TNT, Young Widows, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, WU LYF, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Xiu Xiu, and Deerhoof.

For the avoidance of doubt, Deradoorian concludes her statement, “I do not support AI technology that’s built to spy on us, create weapons to kill us, and utilize psychological tactics to dumb us down to the point of not questioning our reality and devolving our neural connections. It’s important to employ your mental faculties and ability to question in these times and I am trying harder to do that more consistently.”
