Yaku Spring 2026 Ready-to-Wear Collection

by jummy84 September 21, 2025
written by jummy84

Most designers take a while to develop their brand universes, but with Yaku, the universe comes first. “Our collections follow a family that’s based on my own family,” explained designer Yaku Stapleton during a preview of his spring collection. “It’s like a group of characters who are exploring and navigating a limitless world that’s inspired by the online RPG I used to play when I was young—as well as our own human and natural history. It’s a combination of all these influences through the prism of fashion design.”

Stapleton graduated from the Central Saint Martins MA program in 2023 and is currently a designer-in-residence at the Paul Smith Foundation. He introduced his game-infested world to London Fashion Week in 2024, and has been slowly but steadily garnering buzz as well as good will for his performance-heavy presentations, as well as his stegosaurus shoes, dino-print trousers, modular hats, and fabric swords and daggers.

Last season, which was the brand’s second time showing at LFW, Yaku’s characters finished training on a Tutorial Island—the digital space where you learn how to play before entering a video game. “They built their own skills to a point that they’re now ready to go and face real- world challenges,” said Stapleton of his characters. “They also want to go and see what the wider world has to offer. And I think as a team who has largely been working together for two years, we are ready to take a bigger step forward this time.”

That step forward was realized by way of a performance that took place throughout the day at 180 Strand and saw his characters enter this new world and meet a tribe called the Télavani. “I always think of function: Things need to look good and work even if you wash them all the time. That is my entry point into fashion and why my collections are streetwear heavy,” said Stapleton. “For the Télavani, who are meant to be more rooted in the land, we wanted to manipulate the silhouettes that have been the base of the brand the last two years. We elongated the torso and the arms and added more fastenings and pocketing details.”

How did the Télavani come about? “We began this exercise as a team, where we started looking at our family histories. And in doing my own, I came across people I hadn’t before, like the Maroons or the Garifuna of Jamaica and Saint Vincent, who resisted colonialism over several wars. It was crazy to have the lineage that I understood extended by hundreds and hundreds of years. So I wanted to reference those people through Afrofuturism. To kind of rerealign what could happen if a people came to somewhere new and, rather than trying to conquer, disorganize and displace, they looked to learn and collaborate. That’s where the Télavani came from. I wanted them to feel humanoid but almost superhuman,” Stapleton explained.

While all this is great in theory, it also makes sense in practice. Stapleton runs the company with his partner, Nas Kuzmich, who has taken on the more operational part of the gig. She says the plan is to gain more independence by becoming primarily direct to consumer. They’d like the Télavani line to be their DTC play. Apparently, the idea for it only took form after they had fulfilled their wholesale orders.

Last season, Yaku also introduced a merch stand to the presentation, which repeated this time around. At £30 for a T-shirt and with certain styles and sizes selling out by the second show, it was a savvy move for a developing label.

Your Weekly Horoscope: September 21 to September 27, 2025

by jummy84 September 21, 2025
written by jummy84

Your weekly horoscope is here. Bookending last fortnight’s lunar eclipse, a solar eclipse accompanies this Sunday’s new moon. In Virgo, themes suggest decluttering as an extreme sport. Perhaps that’s executing a decisive pivot, hard-launching your new era, or wiping the board clean to detail out that life/business/travel/family plan you’ve just hatched. Virgo is about sorting the harvest, only taking what is useful while editing out the superfluous; plan in a way that sets you up practically for your most cherished dream. It also rules nutrition and the digestive system, so if you’re worrying and twisting yourself into knots, it’s time to clear that slate and do what you can while releasing what you have no control over. Since Mars heads into Scorpio on Monday, a deep Swedish death cleaning could be just the ticket. Go undercover, stealth mode, and approach a goal or task with absolute determination. Libra season also begins on Monday with its focus on love, one-to-one relationships, balance, beauty, and finding the point of fairness for all involved. The Libra-Scorpion combo is giving steamy upcoming film Wuthering Heights, the rabid revenge film, The Roses, and sexy cop-detective, Honey Don’t; yes, it’s date night every night right now. Organise a dinner party; pay attention to aesthetics and the political process, as this is a social sign presided over by Lady Justice herself (with her scales of course).

Read on to discover what’s in store for your sign during the week of September 21 through September 27, 2025.

Aries (March 21–April 19)

The great and glorious sun eclipses in your sphere of work and wellness on Sunday, so hit reset on that fitness routine, dietary habit, worry, or something else that’s been grinding your gears. Get ready to launch Aries 0.2 because you’re rebooting to shine—express yourself and your talent. Speaking of shining, Libra season begins on Monday in your opposite sign of Libra. While you may be the solo entrepreneur, ruled by the deity of war, Libra (a sign of balance) works best as your counterpart, as a sign of beauty, harmony, and dynamic duos. Where you want to lone-wolf, Libra is here to say, “Let’s dance together.” Allow for balance. Your ruler, Mars (energy, drive, and taking action), submerges in stealthy Scorpio. Hold your cards close to your chest, devise a strategy, and maneuver out of sight to attain a goal, ninja mode!

Taurus (April 20–May 20)

This week kicks off with a new-moon solar eclipse blinking out in your sphere of leisure, romantic entanglements, and creative self-expression. With detail and service-oriented themes, you’ll need to take health considerations into account. Fewer cheese boards and more moderation or healthy options, Taurus. The early days of dating and certainly convivial snacking by the pool, garden, or coffee table are wonderful; however, they have their limits. And you may have just stumbled upon yours. Or is that the definitive decision on what to do with your valuable time creatively, romantically, and generally on your time off? Eclipses are hard to ignore, so don’t. Mars in your opposite sign of Scorpio further suggests a powerful and perhaps intense connection. Libra season spotlights your work and wellness sphere, so balance your work with life, and foster sociability, harmony, and beauty in your work environment and relationships.

Gemini (May 21–June 21)

Image may contain Light and Lighting

Cut the cords and jettison the last vestiges of whatever it is that needs to go. A new moon with attendant solar eclipse activates your domestic sphere, so it’s time for a definitive reset. Health, routine, and tending to life’s little details (that you’d rather skip) could do with a new approach. Or is it a brand-new environment you need? Start by clearing out, cleaning, and getting your foundations in order. Revamping your physical space can lead to better headspace for all who live under your roof. Get everyone involved so they feel invested in refreshing the energy by doing the work. Virgo rules light colours, including white, lavender, sage green, and natural woods. Keep this in mind for decorating: light and bright. Since this one is set at a challenging angle to your sign, push may have come to shove. And sometimes that’s just a clear message to do what you know needs doing. Slam the door so you’re free to walk through another. That could be design, lifestyle, or service-oriented. Libra season is all about leisure, love, and romance. Explore your option(s)!

Cancer (June 22–July 22)

Image may contain Astronomy Outer Space and Light

Sunday’s new-moon solar eclipse activates your sphere of local connections and environment. Early schooling may flash back in memory; what theme is your subconscious throwing up, and how is it relevant to a current situation? Take the guidance your inner voice offers. That could be to change behaviours or attitudes that are ready to be retired. Or perhaps it suggests a service-oriented way of interacting with your community. A new solar season begins on Monday as the sun glides into beauty-loving Libra, activating your domestic sphere, suggesting Pinterest design boards and paint swatches, or at least a revamp of your space. Inviting people in for brunch or lunch is a great way to bond and reinvigorate the energy in your home. Yes, it’s not always the first thing you want to do, but once you’re ensconced in snacks and entertaining, you’ll realise it’s actually quite rewarding. Mars in your sphere of leisure and romance suggests bingeing a mystery novel or series is your idea of fun right now or, of course, getting involved in a steamy exploration of your own.

A definitive financial reset is in order as the new-moon solar eclipse reboots in your money and resources sector. If you have a big decision you’ve been dragging your feet on, times up—make the call. Clear out excess clutter, and make an executive decision that works for your financial future. That could be putting up prices, going the extra mile in study or promo, building on resources you’ve already established (like experience or tools of the trade), and leveraging what you already have. Or is it back to the drawing board, should you have veered off track from your passion that can pay? Libra season activates your sphere of local connections, so get out, meet, and greet. Keep it social and convivial, and buddy up with your wingwoman or date. This season agrees with you, so appreciate art, beauty, design, and friendships that surround you. Be sure to send out invitations if you want to see others; don’t expect them to wait in attendance to pay homage—they’re watching for your official invitation!

Virgo (August 23–September 22)

Image may contain Astronomy Outer Space Planet Globe Light Can and Tin

This is one for the record books, a second new moon in your sign, Virgo. Not one but two. This season gives to the very end with its solar-eclipse grand finale. What are you slamming the door on, never to revisit or think about again, dear Virgo? Eclipses are about endings, while new moons are about beginnings. This is take two on the new moon of a month ago, so if there are any false starts or plans not detailed to perfection, wipe the slate and start again fresh. The very next day Libra season begins with a focus on beauty, harmony, and relationships, especially related to the way you earn or spend your cash. Activating your sphere of resources, focus on this part of your life. What do you know you need to learn, do, change, or activate? And what relationships are integral to your financial security? Cultivate and nurture them like beautiful blooms in your garden. Mars sliding into your sphere of local connections may have you slinking about metaphysical circles, slipping in and out searching for just the right vibration. Get down and get dirty. ; )

Libra (September 23–October 23)

Virgo season’s second rare new moon with accompanying solar eclipse is a hard act to follow, but your season begins the very next day as the sun moves into Libra. The eclipse resets in your sphere of dreams, sleep, and liminal space. What are you resetting in your life around those themes? Look to your dreams and intuitive gut instincts for intel. Dream journaling over this period isn’t just useful; you take your sleep routine and hygiene seriously and stick to the plan. On Monday, Libra season hard-launches, and so should you. This is your time to shine, put your party shoes on, and host with the most to celebrate your birthday and themes of beauty, love, and harmony. That means looking at all sides and making a fair judgement. Mars activates your financial sphere, so take a stealth-wealth approach, be assertive, and most of all, be persistent.

Scorpio (October 24–November 21)

Image may contain Light Lighting Astronomy Outer Space and Planet

Socially you’re either out of gas or ready to say goodbye to old ways of relating, friends, or groups. As a solar eclipse is a cosmic slamming of one door, remember the point is to open another. With a firm farewell, who are you exiting from your circle, or life—or is that you slamming the door behind you on the way out, either figuratively or for real? It could simply be time for new, healthier habits in your social routine, time to join that run club for enforced fitness, or time to move into a new phase socially. If you’re more backward in coming forward, find a way to lubricate your social interactions with a conversation starter no one can resist. Everyone loves talking about their health or the latest hot trend. Why not start there? Mars heads into your sign on Monday, so aim your determination at a worthy goal. This period suggests excess energy, will, and drive that just won’t quit. Keep to the shadows, go stealth mode, and cruise under the radar so you slip over the finish line before anyone realizes you even started the race.

Sagittarius (November 22–December 21)

Image may contain Astronomy Outer Space Planet and Person

Sunday’s solar-eclipse new moon lands in your direction and career zone; this is the final chapter on change you know you need to make, if you haven’t already. Perhaps that’s applying for something; doing the work to update your promo, headshots; or other standard issue steps you prefer to avoid. Well, no more time to do the details. Take care of the pennies, the dollars take care of themselves, as the saying goes. It’s all in the details with this one. Catch the swinging door right into your next adventure, Sag. Think mutually beneficial service, and you’re cooking on gas. Libra season begins the very next day, activating your sphere of networks, friendships, and clubs. Yes, follow up, make dates, friends, and organise convivial catch-ups in beautiful, harmonious environments. Art openings, dinner parties—it’s all on brand for this season. The lover of love? Find something beautiful in each person you meet, and speak to that part; see how the vibration mutually amplifies between you.

Capricorn (December 22–January 19)

Your big picture may be more like a momentary social media blackout as the new-moon solar eclipse resets in this sphere. What plans must change as you move with changing circumstances or desire? Travel, study, or even overarching views may not seem so relevant, so get precise and get into alignment. Catch up with yourself and the times. Or perhaps it’s you that can lead others to a modern way of viewing the world, updating them through your work, words, and actions. This is the second of two new moons in Virgo, and the final eclipse of the year. So put the finishing touches on the moves you’ve already begun. The sun activates your professional and public-facing sphere as it sashays into Libra, the sign of one-to-one, beauty, and balance. Which partnerships stand out to you over this period that deserve cultivation? Which are mutually amplifying and beneficial? Focus on partnerships that support your upward mobility and those you find the most pleasure in.

Aquarius (January 20–February 18)

Image may contain Light Astronomy Outer Space and Planet

This week a solar eclipse sends ripples through your sphere of shared resources, intimacy, and mysteries. What are you done with, and where are you ready to step out on a fresh footing? A person, a behaviour, a detail that seems minor but feels intense? Or is it a bargain that just doesn’t quite suit your tastes? It’s okay to refuse, to negotiate a deal that works for you if you’re to be part of a combined effort or investment. When things move from personal to business, its okay to set your boundaries for the various areas those entail. That said, sometimes it’s easier to look at a relationship like a business to apply those boundaries. We do our due diligence, we draw up a clear agreement to be sure we’re all on the same page, and we make officially agreed-upon amendments when there’s any change. Sometimes we may rip up the contract. This week, when one door closes, be sure to open another and walk on through. The sun lights up in sister air sign Libra on Monday, igniting your sphere of the bigger picture. Find that birds-eye view and know you’re ready to expand your horizons in a way that excites and uplifts; think beauty, balance, and socially engaged.

Pisces (February 19–March 20)

Image may contain Astronomy Outer Space and Planet

Your sphere of partnership hosts the new-moon solar eclipse on Saturday, dramatically resetting something about the way you feel, relate, or show up. That may be in response to a particular person or simply an inner shift. Sudden beginnings, endings, closures, and renewals tend to accompany eclipses, so stay in touch with your experience regardless of how it expresses in your life. That’s where you are and what you’re working with. Feelings can change on a dime; opportunities may flash in or out if you don’t scoop them up straight away or get your timing just right. Edit your little black book and streamline your contact list if it could do with a good tidy-up. The same goes for who you spend your quality time with and how you spend it. This is a grand finale; it could be as dramatic as you make it! The sun heads into Libra on Monday, upping the romance, appreciation of beauty, and awareness of what is fair, what isn’t, and who for or not. Move with your inner compass and apply your own ethical or moral stance.

My Nails Are So Strong After 2 Months of Dior Base Vernis

by jummy84 September 21, 2025
written by jummy84

Since quitting gel nails a couple of years ago after developing an allergy (sob), I’ve made it my side quest in my job as a beauty editor to find the best gel nail alternatives, the very best nail polishes that don’t smudge or chip two minutes later, and nail-boosting products to ensure I can still enjoy well-manicured hands.

Since bidding farewell to gels, however, I’ve noticed that my nails are more prone to breakage and chipping. Without a plush protective layer of gel or BIAB on my nails, they’re not as robust as they once were. So, I’ve been looking for a good nail strengthener that can harden my nails and help them grow longer. And since I spotted Dior’s Base Vernis (£30) on just about every celebrity manicurist’s social feed of late, I decided to try it for myself. Since then, I’ve never looked back. Scroll on to discover why it’s deserving of a place in your manicure collection, too.

Dior Base Vernis Review

Dior, Dior Base Vernis

The Formula

Working as both a base coat and a nail strengthener, this is a great polish to wear alone or underneath your nail polish. Among the strengthening ingredients are apricot kernel oil and sweet almond oil, which help to hydrate the nails, while polymers help to harden weak nails.

The formula itself is sheer, so it’s less like a nail perfector with a tint, and more a sheer base coat with a tiny amount of peach. It’s a very viscous consistency, so it applies smoothly and evenly to the nails, and thanks to the large brush, you can cover a lot of surface area in one or two swipes. Plus, it also dries really quickly, which is great if, like me, you’re impatient and prone to smudging your nails. It has a noticeably glassy finish to it, too.

For the most part, I’ve been wearing Base Vernis on its own over the past couple of months, and not only do my nails feel stronger, but they look healthier too. The whites of my nails are brighter, and I’ve experienced far less breakage than I normally would. I also tested it as a base coat, but personally, I found it didn’t provide enough grip on the polish on top—it almost makes my nails too smooth. That being said, polish glides on so easily and has a mirror-like shine when I do use it.

Before

Eleanor's nails before using Dior Base Vernis

Here are my nails from a couple of months ago. While they might not look too bad here (thank you, Chanel Ballerina nail polish and Essie Gel Couture Top Coat for disguising them!), I was struggling to grow them. Underneath the polish I’m wearing, they were weak, bendy and prone to breakage and splitting. I just couldn’t get them to grow longer.

Best picks for you

After

Eleanor's nails after using Dior Base Vernis for three months

After using the Dior Base Vernis for a couple of months now, I can see such a difference in my nail health. Firstly, I’ve been able to grow my nails a lot longer, and they’re a lot more resilient. While I subscribe to the notion that “nails are jewels, not tools”, I’m someone who will occasionally rip open parcels with my bare hands. But thankfully, my nails are remaining long and strong. I’m wearing OPI Funny Bunny and Baby, Take A Vow nail polishes in the above picture, but as you can see, the whites of my nails look much brighter than they did previously.

My Verdict

Eleanor's nails and the Dior Base Vernis nail polish bottle on a marble background

Having now tested the Dior Base Vernis for a couple of months, I can honestly say my nails are going from strength to strength. They’re in the best condition they’ve been in for years, and I’ve been able to grow them much longer and can now file them into a soft oval or almond shape. In the above picture, I’m just wearing two coats of Base Vernis, and although it doesn’t offer the nail coverage so to speak, I’m really impressed with how healthy my nails look—I can’t believe that these are basically my bare nails now. Yes, £30 is a lot to spend on a nail strengthener, but if you want something that really works, it’s worth the investment in my eyes.

Dior, Dior Nail Glow

Think of Dior’s Nail Glow as a liquid blush tint for your nails. It delivers a sheer pink wash of colour that instantly perfects your nail plates, making them look healthy and glossy.

Dior, Dior Top Coat

Dior’s Top Coat is one of the quickest-drying top coats that I’ve ever tried (no waiting around for ages here). It applies as a thin, shiny veil that lends a glossy finishing layer to your polish, helping it to stay chip-free for longer.

Dior, Crème Abricot

It’s worth buying for the chic pot alone, but this apricot-scented cream inside is worth its weight in gold. Massage into nails and cuticles to keep dryness and hangnails at bay while nourishing your nails.

Dior, Huile Abricot

If you want more lightweight hydration, this nail serum-cuticle-oil hybrid has a built-in brush that you can quickly swipe onto nails and around cuticles, and it sinks in immediately. So handy to keep in your bag or on your desk.

Dior, Dissolvant Douceur

I’ve not tried this myself, but I have it on good authority from nail techs that this is one of the best nail polish removers ever.
